Stayed here for a weekend. Initially booked because of location and price and while some of the rooms might be a bit dated, overall it was excellent value for money, a great location which enabled a walk into town and to the beach. The service from the front desk staff was excellent, friendly helpful, lots of smiles, happily provide advice on local places to eat etc. We had a technical issue with the tv which was sorted out very quickly.

My only gripe was that when we checked in on the Friday we were advised that the pool was not available for 2.5 hours (until 5.00pm) due to a wedding in the courtyard (beside the pool) - no problem at all (love weddings). Except that the courtyard and the entire bar was used by the wedding group right up until 7.00pm so walking through the group to get to the pool was really uncomfortable and using the bar was just not an option. While great for the wedding group it was actually not great for all of the other hotel guests - the wedding party should have been moved into their assigned reception room straight after the wedding rather than having drinks and nibbles in the bar.

We've visited NP on various occasions and love the City. We have tried a few different accommodation options and were really impressed with Plymouth International. We treated ourselves to the Plymouth suite and loved it!! Fabulous layout with the sleeping area upstairs. It helped the night owl and the early bird couple to have an easier and enjoyable stay. The spa bath was fantastic and along with wonderful service, the stay was a memorable one.

Thanks to staff from reception, restaurant and cleaning services - you were helpful and pleasant throughout all interactions and made us feel very welcome.

Got a standard room for $99nzd per night. Requested room not near elevator, got given room furthest from elevator by road so experienced road noise instead. However, room was nice, good size with all the usual amenities. Had a few stains on carpet and cushions and a black handprint on wall, few areas needing paint touch ups but overall nice and clean. Really nice pool and bar area. Food breakfast options
Lots of parking. Would stay again

We arrived with our bikes and the Receptionist was happy to store them in a back office (only room for two). She was very helpful and friendly as were all the staff. Our room was comfortable with both a ceiling fan and opening windows, which allowed us to sleep comfortably without having to use the aircon. (a preference of ours). The room rate included breakfast and we were offered the full range from cereal to cooked by a very helpful Maître d', for whom nothing was too difficult.
We decided to eat in the hotel's dining room, The Orangery, not a cheap option, but not too expensive either and one that was well worth it. I had the venison and my wife the prawns, both tasty and beautifully presented.
The hotel is between five and ten minutes from the main shopping area and the coast with a great bike ride. If you bike north on the Coastal Walkway, stop in at the Shaker Tin Coffee Caravan on Waiwhakaiho Bay for a smoothie.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will happily return.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Our room was large, clean and the bed was comfortable. We LOVED that we were able to take our two puppies with us. We were provided with a ground floor studio room so that we could easily access outside. The staff are friendly. Location is good. We walked to Pukekura Park, where the TSB Lights Festival is happening (c. 15 mins).

The theme of our two night stay was set by a truly terrible check in experience. We were given the key to a third floor 'deluxe king suite' and, on opening the door, were greeted by two large whirring fans and an awful smell of damp carpet. On feeling the carpet it was, as expected, wet. We phoned reception from this room who told us to return. We transported all of our heavy luggage back to the ground floor and were given a key to another room by the male (shorts wearing) receptionist who offered no apology. Back to the third floor where the key to the second room did not work - back to reception for a second time where the receptionist reset the key. Third time 'lucky' we gained access to the new room which, laughably, is advertised as having 'new furnishings'. The room was very down at heel - broken and watermarked furniture, peeling wallpaper, dirty curtain lining, broken and useless cafetière and a flickering bedside lamp with dangerous wiring.
Breakfast on both days was a depressing experience. The male waiter on Day 1 ignored us (2 men) whilst greeting other guests like long lost family and we had to find our own table. The buffet on offer was a dismal selection of tinned fruit and a 'hot selection' of watery scrambled eggs, grey mushrooms, undercooked grilled tomatoes etc. Only self toasted, sliced bread was on offer.
We chose to avoid the 'Flambe Restaurant'.
Even on check out, we were told that the system was not working as the computer had crashed. Says it all.

After traveling from Invercargill for past four days we were blessed to find a very comfortable room in New Plymouth. The stay and pure luxury of the bed and room we decided to stay 2 nights. We ate in bar and food was very reasonably priced and was very good taste wise. The staff were very helpful. Over all best stay we have had so far for our trip around NZ. Highly recommended for all hard essential workers to pamper yourselves.

My wife and I decided to stay for a few nights after reading the reviews and wish we hadn't. Where to start... Check in took forever as the computers kept crashing, oddly there were motorcycles parked in the foyer and the receptionist said they were there for security reasons - hoped our car parked in their carpark would be alright!
The hallway carpets needed a good clear, the room was something out of the 1980s with the odd furniture and video/DVD player. We requested to change rooms three times as each time there was a problem - smelly bathroom, uncleaned room and the final room had dirty windows, breakfast menus under the bed and a fridge that didn't work. When we raised these issues with the manager, he just shrugged his shoulders and wished us a happy day???
The breakfast was poor - tinned fruit, toast self service, poorly cooked eggs and tomatoes and the worst baked beans ever. The waiter on the day was stressed and ignored a lot of people or grunted out replies.
All in all a disappointing stay and certainly won't be back.

Booked a standard room for 3 nights at the Plymouth International. This is an older hotel but well managed. The staff all seem to enjoy their work, were very friendly, pleasant and helpful. The location is convenient and parking is easy. The room was a good size. The bed was a queen, comfortable but warm – I’m not sure if there was a synthetic mattress cover that tends to make a bed feel warm for sleeping. There was also a single bed in the room. The air conditioning worked well and the wi fi signal was strong in the room. The bathroom could use an update however I have to say that everything was spotlessly clean. We booked our room with breakfast and there was a buffet with cereals, cooked items, breads to toast, but also cooked to order eggs. The only thing missing would be a bowl of freshly sliced fruit or sliced fresh fruits. Staff were great in the restaurant. A water cooler in the hall for guests' use was a nice touch and convenient. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
