Colombo in the City is celebrated by guests for its exceptional service, with staff who are lauded for being both friendly and informative, although there has been a rare mention of less-than-ideal service. The motel's cleanliness and serene atmosphere are standout features, with numerous travelers finding the rooms to be immaculate and tranquil. A host of amenities, including spacious, well-equipped rooms and comfortable beds, contribute to the motel's high ratings. Its prime location offers easy access to the city's attractions, making it a convenient choice for guests. While most visitors consider the motel to offer good value, a few have noted the laundry costs and shower size as minor drawbacks.

I was a walk in having driven from Mt cook and what a pleasant surprise this was. The room was amazingly presented. The owners obviously take alot of pride in the place.
So in Mt Cook I had trayed at the Hermitage which is a mightly fine place but this takes the cake. I stayed in the studio unit and had the most pleasant stay For starers, the bed, super comfortable, fabulous sheets and pillows. Toasty electric blanket. The kitchenette is gorgeous with the usual things , cultery draw perfectly lined, a lovely tea pot to brew your tea and nice china cups to drink tea and coffee out of, none of the cattering cups that you get in other motels. Sorry Hermitage I didnt like your cups. The Bathroom was spotless and sparkling with great products. The towels were generous and fluffy. The Hermitage's towels were rather small and the bed and pillows hard. Colombo in the city have got great curtains which didn.t let any light in and the room was very quiet and dark and I had the best night's sleep. Don't even think about booking any where else. Great value and great place and great location.

Great location with plenty of parking. The shower was great and it was very well equipped. The room was immaculately clean however I did notice a slight smell when we arrived and when I woke up in the morning I found the unusual smell rather unbearable. Unlike my husband who didn’t notice the smell at all!

The pre-arrival email exchanges were very helpful and we can endorse the many good aspects mentioned by other reviewers. For example we heard no sounds from the occupants of the adjoining units. Other positive features include an excellent location, ample parking, cleanliness, comfy beds, and the spaciousness of the two story apartments. (Though you do need to be aware that this may mean taking luggage upstairs to unpack, and going downstairs in the nighttime for bathroom visits.) Another recent guest mentioned the strange smell, probably a cleaning product. Unfortunately we found the same problem and it was so overwhelming, even nauseating, that we had to ask the daily maids NOT to use any cleaning materials and therefore just to give the room a tidy-up. Even then we felt the need to keep the rooms well ventilated at all times.
If that issue is rectified we would happily return.

Booked this establishment for one night. We appeared to be the only guests that evening. The check in wasn’t warm and friendly but the room was clean, tidy, and comfortable. Sadly the following morning we were woken early by the a tradesman using a grinder or orbital sander on the wall of the adjoining unit. We couldn’t hear ourselves think. Around 9.15am housekeeping knocked on the door to make up the room, checkout was 10am, It seemed they wanted us out. When checking out we advised the elderly man at reception of our disappointment, he simply smiled and ingeniously said ‘sorry about that’. We couldn’t understand why we were given the room closest to a room scheduled to be noisily renovated early the next morning, when all the other rooms appeared empty. Not good enough.

We extended our stay at Colimbo in the City as the accom. was so comfortable and quiet and the location was perfect for exploring the city as well as suburbs. The owners are so friendly welcoming. The car parking is safe and easy to enter and depart the property as it is not onto a very busy road.

Room was very clean and comfortable with good amenities and plenty of space. Friendly and helpful reception staff who were happy to offer suggestions for dining out and were happy to store our luggage after our checkout.
The motel was in a great location near the city centre only a 15 min walk

This is a very smart motel a ten-minute walk from the city centre. We had a one-bedroom apartment with the bedroom on the floor above. It was really nice to have a separate sleeping area, so the lounge/kitchen was able to become more of a relaxing living space, rather than having suitcases and clothes draped all over it. Both bedroom and living area were good sizes and very nicely decorated. The bathroom was small but really well supplied with towels. The kitchen could have done with a hob, but did have a microwave. I agree with a previous reviewer that there was a slightly strange smell at times, but I think this is what the staff use to clean the units. Perhaps it may be worth investigating a different cleaning product? But that is a tiny negative in what was a very comfortable stay. I would definitely recommend this motel to anyone staying in Christchurch.

We had a unit with 2 twin beds, which were extremely comfortable. The studio was pleasantly furnished with high quality fittings and furnishings. The kitchenette had everything we needed and more, including fresh milk and ground coffee for the plunger. The shower was hot and powerful and the Wi-Fi was great. Location was just right, walking distance into the Centre of Christchurch, and a couple of lovely restaurants almost on the doorstep. I would definitely come here again.

What a great place to stay! Well priced, lovely, cosy rooms with nice extras. The spa bath was a good size, room for two, and the motel is very close to the city centre. Perfect if you are having a night out like we were. We will be back!

We spent 4 nights here, and it was a very comfortable, clean, and spacious hotel room to serve as a base for day trips and exploring the city. It's about a 10 minute walk to the CBD; 15 minutes to the Botanic Garden and Christchurch museum. Our room was a large double studio, with a kitchenette and bath. The furniture and fixtures were very clean and in good condition, but maybe not the newest. There is a laundry room (for a cost) and free wifi. The bed was comfortable and the pillow was the best pillow I've ever slept on, which is quite a feat for a standard hotel pillow.

We were situated on the ground floor so cannot answer that question. We arrived about 4.30pm on a Sunday and lots of places were closed But we also did not require a supermarket so didn't notice to be honest! But we had a really good meal and were entertained by a live band in a local bar That was recommended by the guy on reception at the hotel.
