We went to Jacks super hungry and eager for a quick bite so we ordered pizza. This is also what the restaurant is supposedly known for. We waited one hour for the pizza, sitting at the bar because they had not enough space at the tables. We listened to absolutely misplaced techno music, looked at the semi dead fish in...

Quirky little camping area and restaurant/bar, not far from Westport. Perfect if you want to get an early morning start the following day to the Punakaiki area. Only a small number of spots, which makes it a nice personal camping ground. Gravel area to park car beside grass, which was easy to pitch tent on. Beautiful, colourful flowers throughout camp....

Took a very pleasant short drive south of Westport for 23 Ks to Jacks Gasthof on the banks of The Little Totara River. Absolutely beautiful surrounds and as it was a very warm day we sat outside under the shade of a group of Totara trees. Ordered a Pizza from the menu and even though it took some 40 minutes...

Don't be misled by the nice setting, the two owners of this place are rude and unwelcoming. The owner hardly looked at us as we came in to ask for the cost of an RV spot for the night. The next morning both owners verbally berated us for using wifi on our laptops while on vacation, babbling something to the...

This iconic pizzeria/bar has been a favourite for over 15 years....dont expect instant service as everything is prepared fresh - not prepackaged. Although closed during winter during the rest of the year it is open most days for brunch/lunches & for evening meals & pizzas with a wide range available. Its a favourite with locals around Charleston & many take...

Jack's place I strongly recommend against staying here. When I first arrived on my bike in the rain the lady who turns out to be managing the place shot me a look like I had killed her cat whilst I was cycling down their main driveway. On arrival at the office no one was available, it was all locked up...

We planned to stay here due to the review on the lonely planet guide. We turned up to a grumpy lady who said we could camp in the field for six dollars each (can't complain at that price). Although when we asked if that included showers we we're told we had to pay an extra five dollars each! (A bit...

We make the drive to Jacks around 2x a summer to indulge the pizza- and it is always the highlight of the season. This year we camped in the grassy area that Jacks offers to campers, and enjoyed a lazy 3 course meal. This time we tried a dessert- the plum sauce with ice cream cannot be beaten!! ALWAYS INCREDIBLE...

Punakaiki in the West Coast is best known for the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes, but definitely not for its dining-out options which are few and on the expensive side. However, a lovely lady in the visitors centre recommended to us Jack's Gasthof and we've made the drive to Charleston on two consecutive evenings (about 30km from the visitors centre) which...
