Amazing location right at the trail head of the Old Ghost Road. If you don't stay then grab a beer and a warm outdoor shower ($10). But I highly recommend you do stay! Large 2 level room that have up to 4 beds. Warm rooms, netting around the entire place to keep the sandflies at bay. River out front and...

After walking the (fabulous) Old Ghost Road for four days this charming haven was so welcome and welcoming. Aptly described as rustic it is unpretentious yet tastefully decorated and so spectacularly situated on a sweeping bend of The Mokihinui River. All 5 guest rooms face the west coast bush with the river views given over to the lodge's comfortable, upstairs,...

Arrived yesterday afternoon a bit knackered after the OGR to this wonderful quirky haven in the middle of nowhere. We 3 the only guests that night Looked after by 2 very personable young men. One from Texas and one from the Adirondacks,( who had a spectacular number of consonants in his name ) provided us with excellent evening meal, then...

After a tough two day's riding arriving here was amazing. Great position over the river (including a hot outdoor shower). Rooms comfortable and attractively decorated. Staff efficient and friendly. We had dinner & breakfast, good wholesome food and plenty of it. Lodge is a well proportioned timber building suited to its surroundings. Free Wifi if you feel the need.

A group of us recently rode the Old Ghost Road. Everybody had recommended that the stay at the Rough and Tumble at the end of the ride and it was a recommendation that we thankfully adopted. Buller Adventures shuttled us to and from the track and very kindly took clean clothes to the lodge for us so that we didn't...

This lodge is strongly oriented around the Old Ghost Bike Trail, but it's also a really nice general purpose lodge to stay in the area. It's got the following key characteristics: 1. Superb sandfly protection. They have a mesh system which is by far the most effective barrier I have ever come across 2. A great river next to them...

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Rough and Tumble after our bike trip on Old Ghost Road. The staff was friendly and the outdoor shower after our ride was heaven. The lodge is very remote, so if you're looking for a town with places to go out at night, it's not for you. If you're looking for paradise after...

I had just one night here, but it was a beaut. Tailored for people who have just given everything on the OGR, it is a lovely sight to see, warm in its welcome, friendly people, good bar, comfortable silent bedrooms, and great meals.

We stayed here for one night on our tour of the west coast. This is a great place to get-away from the main road and enjoy a beautiful setting along the river. The hosts are very friendly! Dinner was amazing and the rooms equally so! Bring your bug spray and enjoy the quiet!

I stayed at the R&T lodge after 2.5 days completing the awe inspiring Old Ghost Road on a hard tail mountain bike. The weather on the trail was terrible so I arrived at the lodge cold wet and a bit beaten up. The set up is perfect for people coming off the trail, from the private outdoor hot bush shower...
