Sited amidst untouched and beautiful bush beside the fast flowing Mokihinui river this is a comfortable retreat. the rooms are pleasant , the staff helpful and the famous pulled pork dinner delicious. to be recommended for older travellers as well as the bikers and trampers on the old ghost road.

We were heading towards the trek and the rain gave us a break. We had a nice time at the lodge. Staff is very friendly and conditions are more than perfect. Worth visiting indeed. Good starting point for your trek.

Arrived here after two days cycling the Old Ghost Road (it's located right at the Seddonville end of the trail) and couldn't have been happier with the experience. Even though we all arrived covered in mud and dripping wet, the welcome we got was second-to-none. The lodge sits in a superb location, overlooking the river. The rooms are modern and... More

Definitely off the beaten track.Very interesting drive to the property. We had booked the evening meal and this was a good idea as there are no nearby restaurants. The dining experience was wonderful. Our host Weazil had produced an excellent casserole and all the guests sat down together at a communal table. It was a very friendly experience. Would highly recommend.

Amazing location, perfect facilities and great service from Cat and team. Greeted on arrival and taken to lodge safe haven from sand flies. Very friendly and casual which suits the location on the laid back West Coast. Perfectly located to end of Old Ghost Rd mountain bike track which was awesome.

We stayed 3 days at the lodge tied in with biking the Heaphy and the Old Ghost. Cat and her team went out of their way to help and they were genuinely great hosts and very helpful and flexible given we had some early starts and late finishes on our biking days. I will be going back and taking my... More

We were wholeheartedly welcomed to Rough and Tumble after a few great days riding the Old Ghost Rd. Set right next to the river in real west coast country! Great way to end the trail. We just dropped in for a coffee and muffin but will be keen to stay in the great looking lodgings next time. See you next... More

The host was super friendly and hospitable and it was a perfect end to our mountain biking adventure staying at this wonderful comfortable lodge and conversing with the guy who made it all happen. Dinner was great and the lodge is situated in such a beautiful part of the country.
