I stayed here with my husband and his parents- both couples in separate nooks. It was such a great stay.
Initially I was disappointed we didn’t manage to book a room with a hot tub but we didn’t miss out on anything. The nooks are deceivingly big inside, they’re very spacious and the finishings are to a high standard, like being in a small boutique hotel room.
Even though it was October and cold outside, the nooks are warm and cosy.
We were celebrating two birthdays and they really made sure we felt special. Nothing was too much trouble, service was excellent and attentive.
We dined in the on-site restaurant both nights we were there and couldn’t have asked for anything more. We had the tasting menu on the second night- for £70 it’s incredibly good value for money and one of the best I’ve had.
I cannot wait to go back and I highly recommend it whether it’s for a break, a celebration, good food, or all three.

My husband and I have been very fortunate over the years to stay in some really lovely 5* hotels across the country and Tuddenham Mill is up there with the best. Checking in was easy and prompt. There is a hand sanitiser just as you enter (wall mounted) and also on the reception desk (which has been screened) and signage on floors re:distance. All staff we encountered throughout our stay although not in masks kept a respectful distance. Our Mill Room was spotlessly clean and modern with a well stocked mini-bar (fresh orange juice/water/brownies and FRESH MILK! , rather than those horrible, cheap ‘milk’ pods). Bathroom was again spotlessly clean, an enormous bath and powerful shower with plentiful complimentary ESPA toiletries. The room was quiet in its location with its own little private terrace.
We ate in the Secret Garden restaurant both nights and can only say that we had a great experience. The area looks really pretty and inviting and tables both outside the ‘tent’ and in have been spaced well apart. There is hand sanitiser at the serving station. The service we received was brilliant; waiting staff were friendly and although maybe some were young and inexperienced they were evidently doing their best. The menu is short but delicious; small individual boxes or larger to share. The wine/drinks list is again short but well chosen (the Rioja is delicious especially with the croquettas). Check out was seamless; call through to reception to pay and then drop off keys to key box just outside reception. Given the current circumstances It is obvious that they have given careful consideration to health and safety limitations whilst trying to retain some sense of normality. All in all it was a really pleasant and very welcome stay away and hope to go back to experience some sort of more formal dining in the not to distant future.

We stayed here for just one night in Loft Room South which has a nice view of the gentle stream and towards the nooks. It’s large, light and airy with a big bed, sitting area, wide screen smart tv and a lovely gas fire to make it cosy on a chilly windy night like we had. Gowns and nice toiletries, chocolate brownies, orange juice, fresh milk and sloe gin were all lovely touches that made it that bit more special. A nice rain shower in the bathroom area tucked behind a wall in what is an open plan room. ( No toilet door and bath in the bedroom area) which to me was probably the only down side. All staff but one were exceptional and made you feel very welcome.
Dinner in the evening was wonderful and breakfast in the morning is not a buffet. Everything is bought to your table and the cooked breakfast arrived hot with very good quality ingredients. Rare and unusual in any hotel.
The mill is set right on the side of a very busy main road so choose rooms as far from the road as possible.

Having booked a variety of boutique hotels through Mr & Mrs Smith we were excited for a post lockdown stay in Suffolk, however, we specifically booked a Mill Stream Room because it was dog friendly and on our booking (& confirmation phone call) confirmed we would have our dog with us, however the hotel seemed to have forgotten this, as nothing was provided for our dog upon arrival. Whilst this was a small oversight, it was just the beginning of the poor service we have received.

After a three and a half month closure, one would think you would do a maintenance check before reopening. There were cleaning issues, water marks on mirrors, dust collected under the bedroom desk and a couple of the bedroom lights were not working. The rooms are incredibly hot with no air conditioning and no window, other than the bifold doors, which we could not leave open all night for fear of our dog escaping or unwanted visitors.

Food in the secret garden was served in dominos style paper boxes, is this COVID-19 protocol? Food served to the terrace of our room, was still sitting, waiting to be collected the next morning.

We ordered breakfast the night before, including a hot chocolate, which we were told the hotel did not have, however, the following day in the restaurant a delightful hot chocolate was served. The service in the restaurant was average at least, they were very short staffed and we were not given side plates, cutlery & serviettes for the meals we had there.

Whilst they are not cleaning the rooms daily, we were still charged for replenishing the water and I'm still waiting for a refund to date.

Finally, we checked out over the telephone as requested, nobody asked how was our stay and we were not given the leaving gift as promoted (brownies, fudge...). We have sent emails to the hotel providing this information, the manager promised to call back but 3 weeks later we have not received it. If you are looking for a short break, relax, be looked after and receive a good level of hotel service I'd not recommend this hotel. There are other UK hotels at similar budget providing more that Tuddenham Mill does.

This place’s reputation for food was what attracted us and the food did not disappoint. The Manoir was our absolute favourite until now, but the food experience at Tuddenham means they will have to share that position. A plus for us is that the journey to Tuddenham is about an hour while there Manoir is a half day.

For the type of food produced, I think the price is very reasonable. I have paid more locally for less attractive food. The staff are friendly and try to help, and maybe because there has been some criticism, they are happy to explain, for example, if we choose to have breakfast outside with our dog, service might be a bit slower than indoors. In fact it wasn’t and it was so lovely there I think they should use that space more for summer breakfasts.

We stopped over so we could have the flyte of wine. Meadow rooms are beautiful, bright and well equipped, with thoughtful touches like fresh orange juice and milk in the fridge, and good coffee and Sherry left for us.

We came with our lockdown puppy, and we had been given a room with a good view over the meadow. Puppy stayed in her crate in the room while we ate and had lots of walks in the grounds which she enjoyed, although the messy molehills are a bit of a nuisance when you are trying to keep things clean. A water bowl and biscuits had been left for her, and these were nice but I probably would have preferred a dog towel to wipe her paws.

The only downside of our trip and hence not full marks, is the room temperature and the lack of ways to manage it. Since this place is recommended as dog friendly, I assumed it would be easy, Everything is apart from the natural heat in the room. It was too hot to keep her in her crate overnight, which we prefer to letting her roam in someone else’s room. But once out of the crate we could not keep the patio doors open, as neighbouring rooms did overnight. I can think of no easy solution apart from some kind of external grill or shuttering which would allow airflow and security at the same time. It was a shame that none of us got much sleep, and I dread to think what it would have been like on a really hot night.

So yes we hope to come back, but it might be for lunch and if we stay over it will be in cooler weather and we would think carefully about whether to bring the dog or not.

Big thank you too all the staff who were kind, friendly and very professional.

Good Afternoon LMBUk, It is lovely to read such kind words about your stay and our team at the Mill. I will ensure that all of the team have a chance to read about your time with us. We've been incredibly fortunate to experience some beautifully warm weather over the summer which is very much welcome during the day but can be less comfortable in the evenings. We do provide fans in all of our bedrooms to help but I can appreciate that they only go so far to solve the issue. We hope to welcome you back soon! All the best, The Tuddenham Team

Visited the new Secret Garden Restaurant located in the meadow at Tuddenham Mill with seating under a large covered area (with open sides gas heaters and pretty lighting) or out in the open if the weather allows.

A smallish menu of Light Bites or more substantial meals including burger, fish or Duck noodles to the normal Mill high standards.

Very Covid aware drinks in green single use glasses all food served in disposable boxes. Staff were great and were very friendly.

Quite a few people there I would be inclined to book as I think it will become increasingly popular as an outdoor option especially on a nice summers evening and even when the hotel is fully operational again.

Perhaps a offering a BBQ option cooked in the secret garden? Ideal for families. Already booked my next visit!

The grounds are fantastic and our room was nice. Unfortunately execution is lacking attention to detail that should come at this price point. For example our complimentary milk and orange juice treated strongly of soap - capped containers would solve that. Dinner was good but over priced for what it was. Breakfast was average. The staff were really friendly and trying their best but didn't know the wines and seemed to lack training that would be expected at this price point. This hotel has a lot of promise but let down by execution.

We just returned from a night away that should have been wonderful but was terrible. Our first post-lockdown treat, a boutique, expensive country retreat and dinner in a beautiful restaurant was just what we needed. I decided to go up market and pay £375 for a room thinking that with that price tag we would get everything we wanted from that experience.

Sadly we have come away feeling completely over charged for what we had. The room was beautiful but not worth the money, the sinks are cracked, the bed was just OK, nothing special, the bath tub was nice but the plug didn’t keep the water in so we had to keep topping it up. No slippers and hardwood floors.

Service was not friendly, not particularly helpful. After phoning the front desk and no one answering I went in person and found two employees just chatting and clearly ignoring the phone.

The restaurant experience was one of the worst places we have ever eaten. The menu was poor, the quality of food was poor, no atmosphere, cheap catering tables not covered with tablecloths, out of an option of 5 meals I chose papadelle which should have come with some sort of cheesy lemon sauce, what came was a bowl of sticky, tasteless spaghetti which was inedible, and they charged £23 for it! Outrageous. My husband had the seafood platter because there really wasn’t anything else that sounded remotely appetising. We had a feeling that perhaps the chef had left and they were making do in the kitchen. We did complain but we were just met with a polite apology, they certainly didn’t take any money off the bill.

We ordered breakfast to be served in our room, when it came they had forgotten to put butter, condiments etc on the trays. The vegetarian breakfast was a cheap veggie sausage, and a mushroom with beans and very runny scrambled eggs. We felt that the simple details had been missed. The little things that you wouldn’t expect at such a high priced establishment just weren’t there. It should be seamless and leave you feeling pampered, and instead we left feeling like we wasted our money.

Everything just felt like it had been done on the cheap apart from the price tag of everything. I am happy to pay for quality, but this was a rip-off. Very disappointed and upset.

The setting is beautiful and it could be a fantastic experience. It is certainly not living up to the expectation that the website gives. Won’t be going back.

Hate writing bad reviews (this is my first) it’s a lovely place and the food was excellent both nights and breakfasts. However the service was very slow and I’m some cases really poor. The only reason I am writing this review is because I left a comment card with my issues at reception when I paid my £787 2 night bill. I have heard nothing since even though my feedback was descriptive, honest and not irrational or emotional.

Room: I descaled my shower heads when we arrived in our loft suite. The water would hardly discharge from the shower head until I did this. The TV wouldn’t change channel and the room was not serviced in between our nights. That’s not a major issue as I can fold my own towels and make my own bed - however we didn’t get no fresh Milk, water, juice into our fridge or any new teabags / coffee.

Restaurant service:
Both evenings we waited for over 30 minutes to be shown a menu and to be offered a drink. In fact the 2nd night after 45 mins I went down to the bar and fetched 2 glasses of wine and brought the back to the table. Service was very slow and the staff didn’t seem to have any organisation or direction. It was totally unclear to see if anyone was in charge. The first breakfast we arrived and it took 30 mins to take our order and a further 30 mins to get any food.

We stay away regularly at luxury / boutique hotels and for circa £400 per night including dinner the service / cleanliness / attentiveness has to be better than this.

The food was excellent when it came - clearly they have talented chefs. The place is lovely and peaceful and the loft suite is great. Covid is being used as an excuse a lot lately but basics like cleaning a shower head, getting a drink, getting a menu and getting milk and water to your room are not difficult tasks. If you was paying £100 a night you would still complain at this level of quality.

So overall this was disappointing on a number of levels. Staff were nice and pleasant but they need leadership and organisation and probably additional heads to improve. The reason this review is on here is probably because my feedback form has been filed away when I checked out last week

Had a lovely break at Tuddenham Mill. We stayed in Mill Room West which is on the top floor of the main building. The room was impressive with lots of nice little extras (the complimentary brownies in the fridge were amazing!). There was ear plugs in the room which we realised quite quickly was because the sound proofing in the room was poor. The road outside is noisy even with the ear plugs but for one evening was manageable, however, I would actually recommend staying in the rooms away from the road side. Food in the restaurant was quite slow but very tasty and worth the wait, I think we were a little unfortunate to get our orders in after a very large table. Staff were very friendly and attentive and I would recommend a visit.
