I stayed here for one night on my way down to Sydney. I really wanted to experience one of these old inn hotels I saw all over Australia. It was reasonably priced and the room was great, very comfortable bed, modern en-suite bathroom. I also had dinner here and it was probably the best fish and chips I had in...

My girlfriend and I went out to enjoy the underground jazz night. Beers were well priced with fun and bubbly bartenders. Helpful and happy people! Jazz was excellent and a very happy and relaxed environment. Good times!

Stayed for a couple of nights. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room nice and clean. Good location in quiet part of town near beach and 15 min walk to Queens Wharf. You do have to climb a staircase with your luggage so may not suit some people. Enjoyed our stay but found the mattress too hard (room 5) and only...

Stayed for two nights (Fri and Sat) at the Grand Hotel. Great location, really close to the bus transfer from Hamilton Station, and just a few minutes walk down to beautiful Newcastle Beach. Stayed in a top floor room - it was super lovely! Clean, fresh, bright, airy, sunny... no balcony up on the top floor, but the sunshine flooding...

If you're looking for a budget stay in Newcastle and a quiet place, you should definitely choose the Grand Hotel. Not a busy street, not many cafes and bars there so there are no crowds, however, it's a short walk to the esplanade with plenty of cafes and bars. The room was clean and nice, very good value for money.

Stayed here for four nights with my teenage son this week. Great experience. The rooms are old, as you might expect from an old pub, but though small ours was perfectly adequate with a generous ensuite bathroom and good air conditioning. We had dinner here one night, in the cosy front bar, and that was good too. Didn't try breakfast...

Requiring accommodation overnight we were recommended to the Grand Hotel. This Hotel has been remodeled and is now of a very high standard, my room had plenty of space for the double bed(very comfy) small table and two chairs, the room opened out onto the large balcony again with a table and chairs, overlooking downtown Newcastle. The room and en-suite were...
