Very spacious room with a King size bed and all the necessary facilities including, safe, large flat screen TV with a wide range of channels, minibar with space for your own stuff, tea & coffee making etc. We had room 48 which was one of the rooms in a block across the car park from the back of the hotel, and this had a dedicated parking space which made transferring the luggage easy, although the free car park has loads of space and no distance to the rooms is very long. Room 48 has a spa bath along with walk in shower and double washbasins, all of which was great. The hotel itself is at the opposite end of the city from the marina and cataract gorge, but walking to anywhere was easy. We had dinner in the Larceny restaurant, the food was very good and reasonably priced for this type of restaurant. All in all this hotel was an excellent choice for us and the room rate was fantastic value.

We travelled to Launceston from Hobart right after arriving that afternoon and due to changes in our flight, could not make it to check in before 6pm (Australia Day reception hours). Dean was very pleasant when I called to advise of our delay and promptly texted clear instructions for the after hours key pick up. We booked to stay for only 1 night.
My previous questions on parking was also promptly responded to - the hotel has onsite free parking which was a bonus to us.
We travelled as a family (with very young children) of 5 and had a very comfortable room which had 2 separate bedrooms. To my kids delight, each room even had its own TV. The bathroom was also spacious with double sinks and a big shower which had a handheld shower head - very useful if you need to shower young kids.
The only hiccup for us was our room being on the second floor (hotel had ground, first then second floors) with no lift so we had to carry kids and luggage upstairs that evening.
Hotel is also in a good location walking distance to some good cafes/bakeries for breakfast. Wifi was also excellent so my husband could easily work in the room. Thanks for a wonderful night stay!

Bed & pillows great, Bathroom good. No breakfast available although there was a Restaurant in the hotel. This Restaurant was only open Wed. to Sat. nights with prior bookings. They fitted me in one night although only 8 other people in the Restaurant. The food excellent. No daily room cleaning service due to Covid so on Day 4 of a 6 night stay I requested cleaning. Tea/coffee provisions stale. When I asked for fresh provisions I was graciously given a new container, also stale, however a beautiful bottle of red wine was also waiting in my room for me and yes, room also cleaned. Staff helpful, listened to my feedback, acknowledged. A Breakfast at a local cafe required a 5 min. plus walk. I did a 7 min. walk to a wonderful Cafe, 'BLUE', open daily, can recommend. Located in the Tram Sheds area on the University of Tasmania & Museum property, just over the Esk River Bridge on the right. Follow the tram lines to BLUE. Would stay at this hotel again.

Spoke to the Manager called Jay, extremely unprofessional and rude. When checking out I misplaced my key card, I went to the Reception and mentioned that to the reception guy at there and he said "Its all good, you're good to go" After a week when I had to go to Launceston for another work trip, I called and request to book the hotel again and spoke to the manager Jay, I was told I have to pay $100 for the lost card from the last stay before I can make another booking. Non of this was communicated to me when checking out. They are letting new $400 booking for a card which cost 10 cents. And being extremely rude and unprofessional. Post this Covid World the hotel and their management should be more polite, lenient and offering friendly experience, while Grand Hotel Launceston are doing the opposite.

On the cleanliness and room service, when you stay 2 nights or more, they don't change bedsheets and towels everyday, dont even empty the rubbish bins. They only change after your finish your multiday stay at the Hotel. Not so grand after all at Grand Hotel Launceston

Good location within 5-10 minutes walk of city centre. Very close to Boags Brewery. Pleasant 10 min walk to waterfront restaurants and waterfront walk to Cataract Gorge. Room size and decor were good.
Unfortunately very poor room service at this Hotel. On checking in, we were advised that if we wanted our bed made, we should ensure there were no personal items left on the bed. No problem - we ensured room was left tidy. However our bed was not made on any of the three days we stayed there, coffee and tea was not replenished, empty tissue box was not replaced, clean towels are so roughly folded I could not tell if they were the dirty ones we had left to be replaced or clean ones. I am sure these issues could be easy fixed if someone listens to guest feedback. I have never in all my travels stayed in a Hotel with such poor room service.

We stayed there for two nights and the experience was very disappointing.
1. We arrived around 2pm to check in and we were told that the room is not ready yet due to staff shortage because of Covid. This is understandable. The receptionist told us it will be another 15-20mins. However, the room was not ready until 3:10pm.
2. No room service. We went out in the morning after staying one night and came back around 4pm and found out the room was not serviced. We can’t be bothered to ask them to do the housekeeping because that means we can’t be in our room due to their covid rules and we were so tired.
3. I was charged more than the amount I booked on Wotif. I asked the receptionist upon check out and was told that’s the credit card surcharge. I was not told when I paid for it. If he can let me know there will be surcharge for credit account, I can use my saving account to pay.
4. Fire alarm of one of hotel buildings went off at 7am which is really annoying and it turned out to be a false alarm.
5. We booked a deluxe spa room. The spa was not cleaned properly. We can see black gunk after we turned on the spa. The shower area is very small which is completely different from their website photos and cracked bathroom tiles. I’m not even sure if we were given the correct room.
6. The TV is not facing the bed because of the bunk beds in the room which we didn’t ask for!

I know it is hard time for all the business. However, the lack of communication and poor management make me strongly believe that it is not worth the money. I would not recommend.

The positives first. The room was very large, comfortable, secure and clean and we had no issues with noise. The negatives. We were advised on check-in that the restaurant would be closed for all of June (school holidays included) due to staff maternity/paternity leave. This was not mentioned in the 'welcome' email we received two days prior to arrival and was obviously a major let down. There was no lounge or bar service and reception was the only operational area in the main hotel building - one staff member. We were also advised cleaning would no occur on a daily basis due to COVID issues...maybe short staffed...so every second day?? We stayed three nights and days and not once did the cleaners attend our room. Our bins were overflowing by departure. The dryer was also out of commission so we had wet clothes draped around our room. We booked the property for its historic 'charm' but with essentially no 'hospitality services' on offer, we were very disappointed. The property essentially feels like a part time operation. Sadly, could not recommend.

We had a disgraceful experience at The Grand Hotel Launceston. We are frequent travellers visiting 20 plus countries, our accommodation at The Grand Hotel Launceston is the worst we have experienced.
The room was filthy with some items broken.
The condition of the carpet was old, smelly, torn, holes and disgusting. It was that bad I wouldn’t let my dog sleep on it.
We had problems with check in and our reservation.
Dirty dishes in the cupboard from the previous guest.
Bed was small for 2 people and hard. Pillows were hard and uncomfortable.
Noisy location and rooms.
Spare blanket in the cupboard was dirty with previous guests hair in it.
Problem with the internet.
With Covid spreading in the community, the standard of cleaning was a 1 out of 5.
The Hotels website is NOT a true reflection of the current condition of this Hotel.
I even question the authenticity of previous guests reviews as this Hotel is no where near a 5 star review.
Upon discussing the matter with Dean the Hotel Manager and suggesting he inspect our room, Dean said he would email me by end of the day. 4 days later we have not heard from Dean or the Hotel. No surprise.
I wouldn’t stay at this Hotel ever again even if they provided accommodation for free.

Good location, friendly receptionist. But when it came time to try and sleep the noise from what I think must have been aircon or exhaust from the restaurant which was right between our 2 windows sounded like a plane taking off! It eventually turned off around 11pm. And to top that off was looking forward to a nice "hot " shower but was barely luke warm, so didn't stay in there long. Could hear if anyone walked up the stairs or spoke outside. Others we were travelling with had a much larger room a larger bed a couch to sit on all for the same cost as us, but they also had cold showers....

The hotel is located close to City Park. It is not particularly close to supermarket, food outlets, etc, but it takes only around 10min or so to get to them.
The lady at the reception was very friendly, and helped to carry my luggage up the stair case (which is quite steep indeed).
The room itself is very small, and the floor is somehow a bit slanted, which is certainly understandarble considering the age of the building.
The cutlery provided in the minibar is very helpful.
The only downside is that, the mattress was quite worn, such that the middle part has lost its support. I have some back issue and could not sleep well because of this...
