The Grand Chancellor Hotel in Launceston is well located for the city centre, and parking in the adjacent car park is a bargain at $6 a day. We also felt that the full buffet breakfast at $25 per head was excellent value.

We had a King room with a small but adequate bathroom. However, the hotel has installed temporary air-conditioners to replace the central system, which are very noisy and not particularly effective. We were told that the noise of these systems was the largest complaint about the hotel, and we would concur.

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Chancellor Hotel for 4 nights and enjoyed its central location to restaurants and entertainment areas of the city. Apparently, the owners will shortly replace the central air-conditioning systems, and getting rid of the current noisy units will not come a moment too soon.

In the bar area in the reception there is a daily happy hour from 5 PM to 6:30 PM, with a range of well priced drinks and a good daily attendance from guests
.
We found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly, and they are clearly trying hard to overcome the current shortcomings of the hotel rooms. We would encourage the hotel owners to move swiftly to upgrade their air-conditioning systems to stop it detracting from the positive work of their staff.

We would stay there again, though preferably once the noise issues are resolved.

I've stayed at another place with a range of rooms in Launceston and correspondingly wildly varying rooms and know of another one in Brisbane. I got the Superior room on a very good early booking deal that the Grand Chancellor do in Launceston which I believe is their mid-level room. If I understand correctly the Deluxe is their most inexpensive room and suspect they're what the reviews complaining about small bathrooms, outdated decor, uncomfortable beds and weak showers originate. I actually wanted a Deluxe room because I like the outdated decor as it's the original decor and I like its kind of 90's retro chic, it suits the aesthetic of the building and to my eye looks quite cosy. But I think the irony of asking for a downgrade would've been lost on the woman at reception whose voice I recognised from when I rang up to enquire about payment processing times, who while officiously friendly seems the type not to suffer fools gladly so I didn't dare. However I didn't regret it because the room was very nice. I'd describe it as premium minus a couple of frills, not quite Spartan but not too far from it. It looks similar to a couple of motels I've stayed at in Ballarat over the last year with comparable prices but the aesthetics and fittings were a cut above and you don't get first rate room service and daily housekeeping at motels. There was also a gorgeous view of northern Launceston from my window. Cameron St is one of my favourite streets in Launceston, a handsome historical street, the Grand Chancellor is situated across the street and bang in the middle of three of its nicest buildings, I was on the fourth floor and I think that was the perfect height for the best vantage point for that view. The room I was in had a huge bathroom with a great bathtub that I used and greatly enjoyed, the whole place was immaculately clean and the room service staff made a real effort to make you feel very welcome. Amusingly the room was warm at night when I returned from my day while it was 13° outside, just like my own bedroom at home. It will cool down fairly rapidly if you open the window for a bit though. I did need to use the air conditioner at one point to cool the room down for an afternoon nap. There are three dials on it, there is only one setting that properly cools and you need to be able to work out exactly where it is to make it work but it's fairly easy and it did. I think it would just do the job in summer. Unlike a lot of the reviewers here I don't mind the portable AC units, I think they're novel and cute. Likewise the tv, I don't really care if they're a bit old and the reception isn't perfect on a few channels, they still did the job and were fun I thought. Overall as I said the room and hotel still felt premium, only minus a few of the frills that you might get at a comparable hotel but really, too minor to care, still luxurious and premium and that's Launceston, I appreciate the slight difference to elsewhere.

After staying in motels along the east coast, when we arrived at Launceston, we get to stay in a proper hotel. We had a family room for 4. Given that it includes breakfast, the room rate is even cheaper than the motels along the east coast. The location is quite central, near restaurants and attractions.

The hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston looked impressive upon arrival in the car park and continued to impress inside it looked immaculate and reception was easily located. There was ample seating in reception in the foyer area. Check in was a breeze with a very friendly reception staff member who's attention to my enquiries being prompt and efficient. The Grand Chancellor was incredibly clean in every area we visited during our stay. A family member has mobility issues and the hotel was easily navigated and accessed in all areas needing access. The breakfast menu was extensive and delicious. Breakfast staff members were friendly and cleared away tables quickly and efficiently. All staff members encountered during our stay were friendly, non intrusive and most professional throughout our stay from check in to departure. Our room was well presented and spacious. Bedding and beds were comfortable ensuring a great nights sleep. All bathroom provisions were generous and well received. Overall, we had an amazing stay at Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston and would highly recommend this hotel for your Launceston stay. We loved the location, as easy walking distance to City Centre and City Park is on your doorstep. Look forward to staying there again in the future.

The Grand Chancellor Launceston offers quality accommodation at a very affordable price. It is located within easy walking distance of the CBD and very good parking is available on site. The staff were very friendly and professional and the quality of the meals was second to one. After a long drive it was fantastic to have such a comfortable bed and no noise what so ever from outside traffic etc

I had a 2 night stay here in May and I was so disappointed. Lacklustre service, awful room, poor lighting and dirty carpets... I also did not get a GC Rewards upgrade as promised and was really unhappy with the lack of service recovery from the GC Rewards head office. I had resolved not to stay again but we had enough GC Reward points accrued for free brekkie. As it has taken ages to accrue these and we could get a good rate for the night ($117 for a superior), we decided to come one more time for old time sake and then not stay again. BUT my opinion has been turned around.

I was warmly welcomed back and the receptionist actually smiled and was pleasant. The room allocation met our requests and we suddenly noticed that the lighting was new. They have new spotlights and new bed lamps. And they have finally installed Daikin air conditioners. This was the superior rooms on 5th floor so not sure if this is all rooms, but they have addressed all my grumbles about the room. The carpets in the corridors also have been steam cleaned and they smell fresh. The rooms are large and we like the dressing area at the back to leave bags and clothes. Little touches like biscuits are appreciated too. They also left a welcome drink voucher in the room.

The breakfast was amazing - load of choice and they had my reward all noted on their system.

The location of the hotel is great and is near City Park which we love.

And the checkout was again polite and the staff member asked if I enjoyed the stay and looked forward to me coming back. The previous staff would just grunt at you when you left.

My only minor issues are paid parking at $6 a night - should be free in Launceston. And the TVs need to be upgraded. But we will be back! So happy that an old favourite has turned around. Well done.

Felt very safe during visit. Everyone was social distancing. Very clean hotel. Convenient to city centre and shopping. Car parking was very close and I liked that you are able to leave the car in the car park until midday after checkout. Mostly level access.

We were pleasantly surprised when we opened the front door to be greeted with a huge room to accommodate myself and 2 kids.
Beds and pillows were very comfortable and hotel had great amenities.
Car parking was only $6 overnight and the hotel was in an extremely good location.
Reception staff were extremely friendly and check in and out was very prompt.
Will definitely stay here again.

Very good location in Launceston, the room was quite large and comfortable and the portable air conditioner issues mentioned by previous guests did not bother us as we did not use it. The hotel has a happy hour each evening and drinks are good value during happy hour. The restaurant offers a good selection for dinner but we only ate their once as there also many good restaurants within close walking distance from the hotel.

I have recently stayed overnight at this hotel, first impressions were fantastic given the large room size and friendly staff. How ever after realising the portable AC unit provided in the rooms heating ability was non functioning my partner and I made the choice to not complain as we were simply in launceston to attend a dinner and would not be spending much time in the room anyway . How ever upon returning to the room that evening and retrieving the blanket that was folded and wrapped in plastic i was utterly disgusted to have to continually remove long dark hairs from previous guest from the blanket. The blanket itself was obviously soiled and covered in a previous occupant's hair. Given the current circumstances especially, Cleanliness and hygiene is obviously not a priority at this hotel. I was left with the apprehension that the bed linen was of the same unsatisfactory standard and lack of care from the hotel. As a person who regularly visits launceston for both business and family commitments I would strongly recommend people look elsewhere such as the Silos, Verge or even the colonial hotel was more satisfactory with hygiene standards. Very disappointed as at first view this hotel seems a great option for the price !
