A fantastic, cosy retreat for two in the picturesque village of Hawkshead, Cumbria. The cottage, which has recently been refurbished to a very high standard, is situated in the village square close to all the independent shops and eateries. Hawkshead is a very convenient location for setting up base for exploring the wonderful south Lake District area of Windermere and beyond. The cottage itself is small but, after all, it is only for two people, and has all the amenities you need, including a wood burner for a winter stay.
A generous welcome pack which includes some local produce greets you on arrival.
Parking is a mere two minute walk and the owners provide a free pass for the duration of your stay. The cottage is very quaint and picturesque and visitors to Hawkshead seem to stop to take photographs. Although this didn't bother us, some people may not be comfortable with this. The only negative during our stay was that the pub opposite allowed noisy customers to stay way after closing time on the weekend. However, there were no such problems during the rest of our stay.
Overall, I would highly recommend Alice's Cottage and will definitely return in the future.

We stayed in the Boudoir and it was cosy, convenient to the main shopping area but quiet and peaceful and decorated beautifully. We discovered a small but very functional kitchen nook and a hidden toilet and of course the spa bath was a luxury in the small but well laid out space. A great place to stay and good value.

We very much enjoyed the comfy historical cottage charm at Alice's Cottages. We had a well prepared, clean and comfortable cottage (Welsh Cottage) with the feel of yesteryear. We also enjoyed the cosy comfort of the open fire and the little treats provided on arrival. The cottages are situated in a quiet safe and convenient area of Launceston with good off-street parking and nice tidy garden surrounds. All up, good value.

We had a recent 2 night stay in the Scottish cottage which was quiet, quaint and overall well appointed. However a few basic housekeeping issues we encountered discouraged us from booking here on our futurel visits to Launceston. These included a lack of washing up utensils apart from a well used sponge, an overgrown rose bush blocking the back door and zero TV reception on ABC and SBS. The latter could probably be easily fixed by shortening the excessively long aerial cable. I did email the owners 2 weeks ago about these issues but have had no response to date.

Stayed in Camelot cottage for four nights in October. The cottages are in a nice area though approximately a 15 minute walk to the centre of town. There is a Coles about a five minute walk away.

There was designated off street, but not undercover, parking.

Camelot had three rooms being the bedroom, bathroom and a combined dining/loungeroom/kitchen area.

The bedroom had a four poster canopy bed (comforable), a dressing table with a stool and lamp and a canopy covered hanging area. There were wall attached reading lamps on either side of the bed although they were placed out of our arms reach so that we had to stand up to turn them off. The whole ceiling and walls were covered with material and the room was fairly dark.

The combined dining/lounge/kitchen area had a small table with two chairs, a small desk. a two seater lounge, a flat screen TV, a wall unit for storing plates, a heater, full sized fridge, very old electric stove with oven and hot plates, toaster, kettle and some pots, pans and cooking utensils. There was sufficient cutlery, glasses and plates for two people There was no dishwasher.

The bathroom had a very large spa bath, a walk in shower (pressure good) and a good sized vanity. There was also a garish painting on the wall of a mermaid.

One could see that a lot of effort had gone into the themed furnishings however to a large extent this made it difficult to keep clean as there seemed to be accumulated dust on a lot of the various knick knacks.

Overall the cottage was comfortable though quite dark and in need of some new floor coverings. The cottages were not serviced on a daily basis but management said that they would top-up any items upon request.

There was a self check-in with easy to follow instructions. Same with checking out.

There were breakfast provisions in the fridge on the day we arrived and thereafter you filled out an order form and left it in a box before 10am and the order would be delivered to your cottage between 10am and 2-00pm and left in the fridge if you were out. The offering was fairly basic with milk, yoghurt, packet juices, packet fruit cups, muesli, slices of bread for toast, butter, spreads, bacon (one serving turned out to be one rasher), eggs and plunger coffee. We had brought our own cereal so really didn't avail ourselves of the breakfast otherwise we would have requested more bacon. The packet fruit juices and fruit cups were fairly ordinary.

Would look elsewhere on our next visit.

Thanks for reviewing us! Since your stay we have performed a full upgrade of your cottage and rethemed it as the 'Outlander'. Check out our updated photos on our website if you get time. We now have a dishwasher installed, replaced the floor coverings, and removed the fabric from the walls. We hope you'll consider us for your next visit given the upgrades :). Kind regards, Tom & Bec

This was our second stay at Alice's cottages. The first time it was one night in the "Welsh" cottage, and this last time it was two nights in the "Irish" cottage. Both visits have been enjoyed. The cottages are clean, warm and comfy with a touch of historic charm, and we've enjoyed sitting in front of the cosy open fires on some cold Launceston nights with a nice glass of good Tasmanian wine in hand.

Breakfasts are self-prepared but the food provisions and cooking facilities provided are very good and we enjoyed having our meals in the cosy kitchen.

We had a really lovely stay in the Irish cottage. It was really nice to have some wine and cheese waiting for us when we arrived. The cottage was really cute and cosy. The kitchen area was very cold at night though. The breakfast was nice especially the fresh eggs but maybe you could be a bit more generous with the bacon slices and offer 2 per serving? Also there is no shower curtain so the bathroom was quite flooded after having a shower. I really loved the bed. It was super comfortable and unique. Only issue my partner and I had is some of the photo's around the place were a bit creepy. Especially the ones in the bedroom? I know you are trying to add to the old vibe of the place but we both found it a bit too much...

Quirky & Comfortable Furnished with Camelot 🏰memorabilia⚔️🛡, Canopy bed, and like styled dining 🕯 table, chairs and 🚩Banners; inclusive of modern con’s such as fridge and A/C which made our short stay very comfortable. I found the women’s prop clothing hanging in the cupboard a tad creepy. The spa bath was very deep and difficult to enter/exit, however the shower sufficed. The fridge was apply stocked with delicious breakfast provisions, to which we added smoked salmon portions as a side to scrambled eggs. It froze our apple juice, and my husband found the bread to be stale unless used for toasting. Cooking was kept to a minimum re no door separating bedroom in addition to ample restaurants in the vicinity. Still a lovely, relaxing ‘Get -Away’ experience in the heart of Launceston CBD.

What a fantastic place to relax & un wind..
From the moment I drove up the drive, I felt this sense of calm & like I turned back time & then I turned the key to my lovely piece of English living & entered my own little cottage. The fridge was stocked with a full country breakfast, a cheese plate & beer & soft drink. A bottle of Red wine was ready & waiting along with a decanter of port - all complimentary. I unpacked the car & then lite the cosy fire & poured a glass of port & just fell into the comfy fire side chair... I relaxed to the sound of the fire cracking & lost all track of time, just enjoying the night. The large comfy bed was calling & did not disappoint at all, very very comfy & warm, where I endured a very peaceful nights sleep. The pedal stool bath tub looked so inviting, but alas I only had time for a shower prior to my morning appointment after I cooked my special country breakfast. Alice Cottage did not disappoint & I enjoyed my stay very much, so much so I will be back in the near future.. cheers Jen Petersen
