Arrived and discovered we had been "upgraded" to a room $10 extra than we had booked but with one less bed. This was obviously an issue and when we went back to reception to tell them they said they had no other rooms and they could not split the King bed because room service had gone home for the day. They pulled in the WORST folding bed I have ever sat on. You'd be comfier sleeping on a brick wall. We had originally wanted a room with two beds (1 King and 1 Single) because we called and were told they could not split King beds, we discovered that this was untrue. When the staff wheeled in the folding bed they asked me if I'd be happy on that bed incase they can't split the King, was not impressed with this request.

Next day room service were able to split the King into two singles however we could not talk to anyone about our issue as the manager was not on duty on the weekends. We were told there was a note on our booking so the manager would speak to us on checkout. On checkout the receitionst told us we were all set, no mention of the manager. We then had to specifically request to speak with her.

Luckily the manager was very understanding and accepted responsibility for the situation. We were given a refund on one night's stay which we were happy with. It was just a shame that after travelling for an entire day we arrived at a hotel booked over a month in advance to disocver they did not have the correct room for us.

Despite this, the hotel was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ok but nothing special.

Location is good, an easy walk to the town centre and convenient parking round the back of the hotel which is free.

Dear Lottie F, Thank you for your recent review of Mercure Launceston. I sincerely apologize that there were issues relating to your accommodation originally booked with us and that you were not offered a satisfactory alternative at the time of relaying this to Front Office. I am glad that after our discussion on check-out that we were able to rectify the situation some what to assist with compensation in light of the issues that you encountered, in relation to the room move, and I was also happy to read that overall the location was great and the room clean and comfortable. Thank you again for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, it allows us the opportunity to continually improve on our product and service. Kind Regards, Natasha Beck Assistant General Manager

Upon check in I was happy with the newly renovated room, however I am there like most to sleep and found out that staying in one of these rooms that becomes almost impossible.

The window is literally 6 feet away from the road and it sounds like every truck, car and motorbike is coming through the room to get to their destination.

Upon giving this feedback upon check out their response was well the rooms are newly renovated (like I should be very appreciated they did that just for me) and the windows are double glazed (again like that will magically cut out road noise from 6 feet away).

Management have clearly not been in these rooms at night and tried to sleep when the noise is that bad at times and when I have paid good money to sleep (which I got none!).

I stay in Launceston every couple of weeks for work, and thought I would give the Mercure a go as my usual hotel is still closed, and I would like to build up some more ALL points.

Overall, the hotel is modern and clean, and the staff were amazing.

The room was nice, with a nice comfy arm chair, desk and comfortable bed, although there is no main light in the actual room, so it was quite dark, especially as I wanted to sit down and do some work, the desk lamp wasn't very bright, although the alarm clock did have the brightness of 1000 suns, so I'd suggest turning this off if you like a dark room for sleeping.

If you are going to stay here I would recommend a room towards the back, as the traffic noise was incredibly noticeable (especially as the council sent a street sweeper past at 5:45am)

Overall, a nice room, handy location and easy parking made this a good spot to spend the night, and as long as I'm not in a front room, I'd be happy to stay here again.

The Mercure is located opposite City Park, that houses a display of Snow Monkeys from Japan. This hotel is a great location, and makes for an easy walk into the Centre, that is home to many beautiful, historic buildings.
The facilities in our room were excellent. A pod coffee machine, fridge, and an assortment of teas.
The bed was comfortable, the room clean, and housed 2 TV's.
Kate (?) was very helpful on the front desk and efficiently dealt with all queries.
The rooms can be a little noisy, but the windows are double glazed.

Our room was at the front of hotel overlooking City Park (top of Brisbane St) and we stayed for four nights. Be mindful when booking that there’s also rooms behind car park that don’t look as appealing (maybe these are cheaper). Free ample car parking behind & beside which can get quite busy on a weekend.

Easy walking distance into CBD & mall (10-15mins), made even more pleasant if you go through the park which is just beautiful (& has a conservatory full of ferns & orchids plus a snow monkey enclosure- all free). Great room with a very comfortable king size bed and extra pillows in wardrobe. Nicely renovated bathroom with fantastic shower, though lighting in room to put on makeup etc has a bit to be desired. The room had a desk and a very comfortable recliner and footstool that was great to sit in and admire the views from the huge window. Ironing board & iron in cupboard. Bar fridge stocked with stuff that never got very cold but was sufficient for storing some extra items of ours. Housekeeping made up room every day and only left extra towels etc when they thought were required which was fine by us. We never ate in the restaurant but had a drink there one night, which was pleasant but they seem to close quite early (8.30-9pm).

There was some confusion with our booking on check in (& frustratingly that continued over our stay) due to us booking through Lastminute.com and then having to move the booking by a day due to cancelled flights. Despite this & the fact we kept getting our room card cancelled it really didn’t taint the end experience as the rate, location, free parking and room made up for it. Yes, we’d stay here again.

Once you get past the confusing part of this place being a Mercure and Hotel Launceston, it's a steady downhill from there...
The young lady who did my check in had the enthusiasm and personality of a wet sock. Starting with the cool welcome and dull grimace, she handed me 2 forms and asked me to fill both out, kindly pointing out one was for Covid just in case the words 'Covid-19 declaration' at the top were confusing. Once I completed this tiresome task, and paid the security deposit, she gave me my room key with the detailed instructions of "you're on the second floor".
Luckily I managed to locate the second floor without her directions and my room shortly after, out the back of what I thought was the hotel.
Upon entry I was excited to take in beauty of this freshly polished turd, and I immediately noticed the recently repaired plaster in the bathroom that had clearly been fixed by a person with no arms. Happy to see they were an equal opportunity workplace, I decided to move on.
After a long day, I decided a shower was in order. The one in my room had 3 easy settings, scalding, luke warm and cold. After careful selection I soon decided I would wash the little hair I have left and found to get water on the top of my head I had to stoop under the shower head(I am only of average height and was not wearing heels).
After returning in the evening for some shut eye, I was yet to doze off before I noticed that the conversation from the bogans outside F-king their lungs came through quite clearly, but didn't think much of it and eventually got to sleep. Several hours later I was awoken by the angry growl of what appeared to be the pipes being used by the person above me, and when I looked the noises went right down into the hot water cylinder in my room. I was woken several more times by my neighbours (who I assume were crouching in their showers) until at 6am it was too much to sleep through.
After I'd had my morning shower and re-adjusted my spine I decided I'd look around more thoroughly so that I could provide a fair and honest review. I then noticed my king bed was actually 2 singles (it was comfortable though, so who cares) and they had only half painted the skirting boards and you could see the colour underneath. Despite this I must say it was a definite improvement and I commend the amputee for his/her work (anyone else craving nuggets for some reason?) .
As my stomach rumbles I want to leave on a positive note. The room was perfectly clean and tidy,, the location is great, and the price is fair. I also learned that there are some pros working in the adjacent so if you happen to fail to find a perfect 10 at the nearby Royal Oak(unlikely) then you've got a solid option upon return.
I hope this helps,
Safe travels.

Love the Complimentary and Ample Parking Space

The location of the hotel is about 10-15 mins walk to the main city centre, considered a good location and the City Park is just opposite the hotel.

The hotel is divided into a few blocks, if you have big luggage, make sure you find out the block before you start lugging your luggage as the lift only serve the front building, not those at the back.

The room is small compared to some other hotels with similar pricing. Seems some of the rooms have just been renovated and at the moment, the facade is covered by scarffolding and we missed the entrance to the carpark.

Complimentary parking is a good gesture and this makes the stay convenient and pleasant without breaking a hole in your pocket.

The room was nice with a clean bathroom and comfortable bed, however very small and seemed better suited to someone on business rather than holidaying. There was quite a bit of noise surrounding as the front door opened to the car park, and the walls must be thin because you can hear voices from neighbouring rooms. The car park was also full most of the time so finding a park was difficult.
I’d only recommend staying for business purposes only. Location was good.

I was very disappointed with the Mercure Launceston. The exterior of the hotel was very shabby and rundown looking. I was in room 2, which even though was renovated nicely, there were only small windows high up that provided minimal natural light. There was also both a low pithed humming noise and a higher pitched beeping noise all night. Ear plugs were provided, but did little to dampen the noise. It was like being in a noisy dungeon. I was wondering if the room even met building regulations, as there was such minimal natural light and fresh air.

I have always had very good experiences with the Mercure brand, this feel way below par.

Camper65748129935, Thank you for your recent review of Mercure Launceston, I was disappointed to read that your time with us was not enjoyable. I apologize that the newly refurbished accommodation did not meet your expectations, had we known at the time of your stay that you were not happy with the room, we could have assisted in showing you some alternative accommodation and assisting with a room move, permitting availability. We are nearing the end of our rooms refurbishment and will soon be undertaking the exterior and common areas, which will assist with the overall appearance of the property as we start the final stages of the Hotel Refurbishment. We appreciate you providing us with your feedback in relation to your stay, it does allow us the opportunity to continually review and improve on our product and service. I was confused as I walked up a set of stairs to discover my hotel room was in the section behind the main hotel itself.

As I jumped into my room, it had the feeling of a highway motel with the small layout of the room and one of the walls being a window. It provided little sound barrier as I could hear people chatting as they walked by my room or stood outside to have a smoke.

The bathroom was great. Neely renovated and nice.

The bed was a little uncomfortable and the pillows were far too dense for my particular tastes.
