On a hot, sunny day, visiting the aptly named Areca hotel, with its massive palm tree dominating the forecourt, we could be forgiven for thinking we had stumbled across a Launceston oasis. Indeed there was bottled water chilling in the fridge and the north facing window in our room had been thoughtfully left open a touch to assist with air circulation thus cooling the room. There was also effective air-con (individually room controlled) and good wi-fi. With a comfortable bed, TV, good chairs, and a modern bathroom, all we needed was a cold beer to complete our oasis experience. We have no doubt that the very helpful staff might also have assisted with that had we asked. The attraction of the very adjacent and superb Launceston Aquatic Centre won out though. We cooled off there. As a very quiet, comfortable, boutique, hotel, Areca might normally have been rated above our "very good" mark. However, breakfast was not available at the time of our visit so we could not assess that. Also, like others, we gave it a tiny downgrade because of the steepness of its site and its rather tight carpark. That same steep site does provide superb views though, especially from the top floor rooms. We would definitely stay at Areca again........and we might even ask the great staff about that cold beer!

Dear Guest, Thank you so much for leaving such a lovely and detailed review, It's great receiving such positive feedback! We could not be happier to hear that you found the hotel to be much like an oasis, It's the small things that make all the difference. The Aquatic Centre is conveniently located across the road from the hotel, it sounds like this was the perfect addition to your stay. Unfortunately the breakfast was cancelled during COVID-19 restrictions, we do sincerely apologise if this caused any inconvenience and we are hoping to have it up and running again sometime in the near future. The driveway and car park can be a little intimidating, I hope you did not have too much trouble with this! Once again, thank you for leaving such a great review and hopefully we can accommodate you again soon. Kindest Regards, Abbi Areca Launceston

This is a small modern boutique motel with two floors, with great views across the Tamar Valley. Very comfortable and clean. I’ve stayed in many hotels around the world and this had to be the most quiet place I’ve ever been in, I would hardly know if any one else was there, no bathroom or door banging noise from the neighbors. It is only a five minute walk to Launceston centre, however it is on a hill hence the great views.

Stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is located on a steep slope about 10-15 mins walk to the heart of city centre. If you are driving, there are limited parking lots in front of the hotel which is complimentary, that can saves you easily AUD 20 for the overnight parking compared to other hotels in more central location which has an on-site parking.

The room is basic but clean. The front desk is operating on limited hours hence you may need to get the room key from the safe box if you arrive late into Launceston. Full instructions will be given to you prior to arrival and it is easy.

The hotel is of the low rise without any elevator hence if you have mobility issues especially with big luggage, that may pose a challenge.

If you are on the highest floor (3rd floor), you can have a sweeping view over the Tamar Valley which is quite a nice view to behold.

The bathroom is basic with a stading shower, WC and wash basin.

The decor is a little dated but everything is working so I would say it is still a comfortable stay.

Spent a couple of nights here and would recommend. Room
rate was very reasonable, clean and well appointed with a modern feeling bathroom. Bed was very comfortable and the view over the city is a bonus. Location is also good. City park is a short walk away as is the shopping area and various restaurants and pubs. No breakfasts served currently.

Contactless checking and out was a new experience - key in a code and keys drop into a box and in you go! Can’t rate the staff as we didn’t see any!

Couple of small points. While the room was comfortable and we really liked it, there was one window (room 11) that didn’t have a blind or curtain, and while it was around the corner from the bed and frosted, in December with daylight starting from before 5am, the light was noticeable early. Looking at the layout, it doesn’t look to be an issue with other rooms as layout is different. Also, if you walk into the city, be prepared for a steep walk up the drive! Great way to get the legs pumping after dinner!

I’d definitely stay at the Areca again and recommend it to others.

Our room was lovely, had a great view and was very clean. It was close to City Park and only a short walk to pubs/restaurants. There was no restaurant or breakfast available at the hotel. It was an easy self check in process to get the key to our room from a safe key box. We would certainly stay there again.

This small hotel was clean and had good views of the city. Check-in staff were very lovely. Rooms were a reasonable size and quite clean. It is a fair walk up and down a very steep hill to get into the city. The kitchen area serving breakfast is currently not operating. No opening windows so it can feel quite stuffy in the room. Overall this hotel is good value for the price paid.

We loved our stay and was impressed by the quality of the facility, the breakfast and most importantly being addressed by our names at breakfast. The host was outstanding and very personable.

Thank you kindly for helping us find a suitable room for us due to some mobility issues.

Your flexibility was outstanding and this was so so impressive. The room was spotless and the bed so comfortable. You have provided an outstanding professional service and I highly recommend your property.

PS: Loved the breakfast you provided and your attitude. It was a joy to stay at Areca. Thank you for the disability parking spot you have on site.

The room was clean with standard provisions and service was friendly. The bed was comfortable and there is a good windows for fresh air. However the room was small, access involved steep driveways and lots of stairs. Absolutely no good for anyone unable to climb or carry bags up a lot of stairs. No room service, no restaurant, no breakfast available. Reception is shared with an adjacent Hotel. Limited parking outside the hotel door but other parking available further down the steep drive and under the hotel. Not ideal in terms of convenience and access. Would I stay here again? No.

I stayed at Areca Launceston on night of 24/01/2021 in Room 14. The entry is down the side of another named hotel however parking is easy and with maps google you won’t miss the driveway. My floor was ground level and next to the entrance of the 2 story complex. Room was clean, new and nice size based in price. Price was excellent and you got what you paid for in a positive way. No complaints what so ever. Rooms were fresh, products in shower and bathroom was excellent and parking and check in was quick and simple. I would stay again with no hesitations. Thanks Team Areca.

We stayed at Areca for one night in January, 2020 and had a wonderful stay. The staff at Areca are super welcoming and friendly.

Our room was very beautiful and clean with a really comfortable bed, great shower and a lovely decor. Breakfast was included in the booking which also very nice.

The hotel is located in a great part of Launceston, just a short walk from restaurants, pubs and parks. Parking was free and extremely convenient to the room.

We would definitely stay at Areca again.
