Booked in last minute, room was extremely stuffy and air con machine didn't work. Shower very weak. Breakfast buffet very nice. Stayed for one night. $160 for a room very overpriced for the area. Wouldn't stay again.

Needed a bed for a night during a busy time in Whangarei. Would not have been my choice but it was clean and the bed comfortable but certainly the motel is in dire need of upgrading. Room hard to find with a strange arrangement of doors into the unit and unit numbering around the back. Room very hot with no...

I have stayed at the Settlers a few times usually one or two nights at a hundred and fifteen dollars a night plus dinner. I find the rooms comfortable, clean and quiet and i have always had a good nights sleep.

Checked in on 28th Jan and stayed for a night. Room is clean and tidy. Booked a garden view room but not sure if it's worthy it or not as I wasn't sure what to enjoy for the view. However, breakfast was good and staff is friendly enough. Plenty of parking space. Fast free WI-FI. Looks a bit old buildings...

The place needs a make over. My apartment was ok apart from the bathroom which was in urgent need of upgrading. Ceiling coming to pieces and the wall paneling starting to seperate. Last time I stayed (3years ago) I was in an upstairs room and that was a lot better.

The Settlers Hotel is set up like a large motel with two ranks of rooms linked to a central reception - restaurant block. We enjoyed a weekend away at the hotel. Our room was a basic, no frills one which was comfortable and pleasant. The location of the hotel alongside the Hatea River and reasonably central to the CBD makes...

Good sized room, comfortable bed and quiet location. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming and asked if we would be dining in the hotel that night. Dining area and outside of hotel could do with a revamp and make-over but nothing major. The only negative was that the room was heavily deodorized and the fridge had been cleaned with...

Many New Zealand holiday locations have a row upon row of rather tacky motels but the Discovery Settlers is in a different class altogether. Standing opposite a pleasant inlet of the river, the rooms are fully and comfortably furnished to an excellent standard. The restaurant serves an excellent buffet breakfast and we would have chosen to eat there in the...

Hi, Sorry about your stay and as you mention we do not advertise A/C as we do not have A/C in the rooms. The photos your posted are of the heaters in the rooms and they do have "coolair" on the units, which is just the room air. Rgds Chris

Well I decided to try this place after my usual was hotel was booked out and to see if Whangarei offered up anything better at a corporate rate. All I can say is that the place is average and a little bit in need of a spruce up. The room was large - but paper thin walls and doors/windows without...
