This hotel has been a regular stop for me over the years, and it's all too easy to become familiar with the “usual”. Well, definitely there's nothing “usual” about it now! For this family run hotel has a new lease of life when the complete refurbishment of the rooms is completed. When I stayed, four of the ten had been...

My husband and I stayed for two nights. The rooms are newly renovated and are excellent - large and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was also excellent! Great location to stay in to check out the local attractions - an easy drive to pancake rocks, local walks, and white water rafting and...

Stayed here several times now and this last trip was in one of the recently renovated rooms. It was really comfortable, the pillows are the best and the new water system and shower were fantastic. The meals are very good and the hospitality second to none and I will not be looking for any other accommodation. Best to book as...

My wife and I stayed there briefly at the beginning of a 16 day holiday at the beginning of September, we had heard that the hotel is frequented by locals because the food is exceptional. We can confirm that the food was in fact exceptional and the atmosphere very friendly and relaxing. Our host Alan, even though very busy helped...

The Paroa Hotel is clean and tidy, the units are warm and everything is as it should be. Very friendly service, and a great place to stay. Good facilities in the room and there is a great pub/restaurant in the complex. We will stay there again.

Stayed for two nights at the Paroa Hotel while in Greymouth for work. Allan and his friendly team at the Hotel made my visit easy, comfortable and enjoyable. The motel units were tidy and clean and the beds comfy and warm. The food in the bar restaurant was terrific...standard pub grub with a homely twist. My seafood chowder was delish...

I've stayed there twice in the last month, both on business. The Monk family are really hospitable and go the extra mile to make sure you have everything you want. I was on my own but never lonely as people would walk over to say hello. Food is very good and at reasonable prices. I had rare fillet steak one...

Called in here on our recent trip to West Coast, loved the look of the building, all stone which attracted us. Very friendly host, who spent time chatting with us, knowledgable about the area. My husband said his porridge was the best porridge he had ever tasted!! I had corn fritters which were superb, highly recommend stopping in here

Pub meal in essence but above average having been through a dozen recently- in Western Australia and NZ. Friendly atmosphere, not excessive options, prompt service. During the winter functions may prevail and local venues. Thus the atmosphere is dominated by these but still they are versatile enough coping with the tourist, the local and the idiosyncratic.

Lonely Planet's New Zealand says it all: "You can't go past the Paroa Hotel/Motel for good old-fashioned West Coast hospitality". It's close to Shantytown and an unspoiled beach. Ham's Restaurant & Bar specializes in good, hearty meals, Kiwi and Pacific Rim in style.
