If you have the right expectations when booking a stay at this hotel you will have an enjoyable stay. The bad: The lodge is an old house (in need of some renovation) and with only one bathroom for several rooms. Also the rooms do have a damp smell. The good: The owner is really friendly and welcoming, the dog Jack...

We were shocked upon arrival to discover this place wasn't at all as advertised! At best it's a home stay as everything is shared, toilet/bathroom, kitchen etc The room we were to stay in had a really old an musty smell and very old bedding, the floors had not been vacuumed or room aired out! The bathroom had cobwebs and...

We stayed one night between the glaciers and Christchurch and highly recommend! The beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean, and our hosts were so welcoming. I had to have a package delivered there and they even held it for me no problem! The wifi worked well and the kitchen was spacious and clean.

First impression of this hostel is good. Friendly and welcoming host, nice big room. Cosey kitchen with woodlog fire and freerange eggs to use for donation. The other first thing I notice when stepping in the house however is an overwhelming stuffy smell. I am not sure where it comes from but the whole house smells like it and it...

At a price of at least $50 a night in a backpackers lodge, as it looks like with a shared bathroom, kitchen and lounge, i would have expected the place to be better managed. Instead, we were greeted by someone employed by the owner, looking dishevelled and slightly disinterested, showing us our room etc. As the lodge was located far...

We spent one night at the Brunnerton Lodge. It was neat to be staying in a hotel that was over 100 years old, however, there is definitely an old feel to everything about the place. That being said, all the necessities are provided. The rooms have their own heaters and electric blankets so the room is always comfortable. The bathroom...

First we could not find this place because the address is made up. It is not in Greymouth about 10km out in a tiny town called Taylorville. It is an old pub hotel converted into a homestay. It is not a Backpackers. You get your own locked room but share everything else with the owner; bathroom, kitchen etc. Freezing cold...

Confortable, clean and warm even in winter. The best part is that you are like in your house. It is a family house with really nice people. John and his kids are great. Five minutes driving from Greymoth.
