This is a super place to stay if visiting Kaikoura. It is not in the town itself but up on the peninsula, about a 5 minute drive out of town. A very peaceful, quiet residential area. There are two self contained apartments here at the back of the family home of Murray and Tracy, two lovely hosts. We stayed in...

I received a warm welcome from Tracey and her family. The room was lovely, very well appointed and decorated and very accessible. The location of Firstlight is beautiful, on the end of the Kaikoura peninsula overlooking the ocean. Access to the restaurants in town is s very short drive, or a pleasant walk. This is a great place to base...

We arrived here and were warmly welcomed by Murray, the owner. He then helped us remove our heavy suitcases from the car and carried one to our room for us! The room was round at the back of the house overlooking the garden, with distant views of the mountains. We instantly relaxed here. In fact we decided that instead of...

A cosy ground floor homestay. Well-equipped room with good facilities. A friendly and helpful host who greeted us and helped with bags etc. The views from the road were spectacular, over-looking the bay.

We visited Kaikoura enroute to Blenheim and were unsure as to what to expect. We booked at First Light and were unaware of the location or standard. First Light is not located in the heart of the town and whilst most accommodations are on the water front and close to town, First Light is about 5 minutes out of town...

We had the 2 story unit which was nicely furnished and equiped downstairs and extremely cozy upstairs with great views. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. My only regret is not being able to spend more time here

We had the downstairs Studio unit which is luxurious, tastefully decorated and ingeniously designed to fit a quite small space. Great view of the mountains and very quiet and private. The hosts are very friendly and eager to help. The food preparation area is very small, however, and quite a challenge to get a cooked meal together. I had to...

The family home was purpose built with two units for travelers...we were in the less expensive downstairs studio, but would recommend the more private upstairs unit for a stay of more than one night. Owners are in the tourism trade and will arrange fishing trips on their boat. A very clean, organized spot, and the bluff top location is a...
