Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing place to stay. Excellent food very delicious breakfast. Close to most sightseeing attractions and activities. Mike also gave me a lift to train station. He gave me recommendations for eating out and how to get to local sightseeing I had booked.

Lovely lodge. Perfect location. Quiet yet close to the town. Great walks around Kaikōura. Our hosts (Mick, Karen and Jaz) were welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Micks breakfasts were legendary. We will recommend to our friends and returning is a must. Thank you Karen and Joe Devanny

We were here for two nights and it was amazing. Very cosy, homely feel - including belly-scratch-demanding dog! The view from our room was breathtaking and it was a great size and impeccably clean. The facilities are great, there was a communal fridge right outside our door, a safe in the wardrobe, two fluffy bath robes and tea and coffee making facilities - with milk included in the fridge. The rooms have good sound proofing too. We did hear the infamous fire station alarm but it was only for 30 seconds or so. The breakfast must be the highlight of the stay! I had a big breakfast on both mornings and it was amazing. Bacon, sausage, mushrooms, hashbrowns and two perfectly poached eggs - Mick missed his calling as a chef! The short walk to the main restaurant drag with a selection of good restaurants and good bars. Brilliant stay!

Perfect for what we were looking for. We only stayed one night but are hoping to return. Will stay there again as we couldn’t fault it and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. The location was convenient, the rooms were quiet and we had a comfortable bed. The hot tub and lovely breakfast were a welcome bonus.

Nakai Lodge is perfect! Super clean, really really comfortable wonderful view, excellent location, and a beautiful, private garden with a hot tub! But the very best part was our host Mick – our breakfast was delicious and conversation superb! Highest recommendation – we would return in a second!

The loveliest B&B run by the fabulous Karen & Mick. Nothing was too much trouble, from ice for my gin to perfect scrambled eggs. We may not be back to NZ but we’d recommend the Nikau to anyone & if we were back in Kaikoura would stay again in a heartbeat. Thank you K&M x

Karen and Mick were fabulous hosts. We stayed in the Seahorse suite. It had its own private entrance and lovely garden views. The bed was comfortable and the room had all the amenities you need for a complete stay. Mick’s special peanut cookies were especially yummy with a cup of tea. Breakfast was delicious with a few different choices. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. The only teeny suggestion I have is a heated towel rail in the bathroom would be a great addition. Thanks again Karen & Mickwonderful Nicklaus Lodge

Nikau Lodge offers stunning views over Kaikoura Beach, framed in the distance by the beautiful, snow capped Seaward Kaikoura Range. The Lodge is walking distance to Kaikoura village for shopping and eateries. Mick and Karen are great hosts, lovely people with great tips on local attractions and eateries. Mick's breakfast each morning was a highlight.

We loved our night in gorgeous Nikau Lodge in Kaikoura. Charming spotless rooms with a lovely sitting area sporting world class views of the iconic mountains meeting the sea. Very convenient for walking into town for dinner and shopping. And to top it off the best brekky cooked by chef Mike. Only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. Thanks Karen and Mike for a great stay.
