We stayed here for 2 nights. The guide book that recommended staying in Russell rather than Paiha was definitely right. Russell is a lovely place wih lots of interesting things to see and the location of Commodore Lodge, right on the sea front is excellent. We had a ground floor sea veiw room which had everything that you could want...

We lobbed into Russell looking for somewhere quiet and boy we found it in Russell which was exactly what we wanted. We have stayed at Pihiera but russell was more quiet and not as commercial. The Lodge is located roughly 20 steps from the wharf and right next door to the cafe was has the best cheese burger I have...

We just completed a 3 week journey throughout NZ and must say this little gem of a lodge was indeed a highlight of our trip. We had one of the 2 front rooms facing the water and thoroughly enjoyed the large patio area with its amazing view. This was a true studio having a large kitchen area, a sitting area,...

Great for families, the pool was directly outside our double opening doors, making it easy for the kids to run back and forth and I could see them (pool is fenced). The rooms surround around a courtyard which protects the pool and (small)outdoor area from wind and also means the kids are well away from any roads. Nice rooms, recently...

I read all the reviews before booking a 5-day stay (one day before arriving) in early December and I agree this place is a gem especially if you stay, as we did, in one of the front rooms where the views are absolutely gorgeous. If I was being picky (which I am), I would say that the hotel would benefit...

This delightful tiny hotel is on the harbour facing the foot ferry dock and sunset. I had one of the two ground level suites facing the harbour many of the 10 room hotel face the swimming pool in a central courtyard or the back street. Mine had a huge deck with deck furniture, a queen bed, kitchenette with micro and...

We stayed in a waterfront studio which is probably the best location in Russell. Our hosts Jill and Russ were fantastic. Russ gave us the lowdown on where to catch fish and even lent us his little tinny to go and catch them! The studio was spotlessly clean with full kitchen facilities, lovely big bathroom and a superb deck overlooking...

We booked for two nights, but as soon as we arrived at our studio room, overlooking the water, and the Russell jetty, with all the shops and restaraunts only a few metres away, we decided that we didn't want to be anywhere else in Russel, and stayed for five nights. It was absolute bliss, with changing water views through-out each...

We stayed at the Commodores Lodge for our first night in New Zealand and it was perfect! We had driven up from Auckland and arrived about noon. We were welcomed and the room was prepared so we could move in immediately. The room was #2 at the front of the hotel and has everything you could need - even fresh...
