Detailed Reviews
Stayed one night for a romantic Bed and Breakfast experience and we were not disappointed.
The views from the rooms overlook Russell and the Bay towards Paihia with a lovely verandah set up for tea/coffee & Breakfasts.
Sue was the perfect host. Friendly, knowledgeable without being over attentive, she understands the hospitality business very well.
The room was well set out with King sized bed and large ensuite bathroom and insect screens on all the windows. This last detail was important as we were able to sleep with the bedroom windows open listening to the Kiwi in the bush nearby.
Breakfast was delivered when we were ready for it and consisted of quality fruits, and Muesli with home made yoghurt which complimented it well, followed by tea & toast with home made condiments.
Unfortunately in the morning we were effectively locked in by a very rare Tsunami evacuation but Sue was great and even made us lunch when it was apparent that we could not leave Russell until around 2pm.
One last thing to mention Sue matched the Booking.com price so give her a ring first before booking with an overseas company.

Absolutely fabulous, this charming villa provides everything you can possibly need, beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, huge comfy bed, and a shower that just melted away all of life's stress, and on a cold night it was cosy and warm. Sue, our hostess couldn't have been more lovely, she obviously cares a great deal for her guests enjoyment and is incredibly good at what she does. The breakfast was a delight, as it was cold we were welcomed into her house and served beautiful homemade bread and preserves, cereal, fresh fruit and Yoghurt. We were thrilled with every aspect of our stay and would definitely recommend.

This was our last stay in a 5 week tour of NZ. We had some wonderful B&Bs, but this was the best. Good size bedroom with with the magnificent panorama of the bay, a wooden walkway outside bedrooms for breakfast (& the evening glass of wine) listening to and seeing the birdlife. Excellent facilities available for snacks and wine storage.
Sue and Stephen are attentive and informative hosts and if you get the chance to take a days sailing in their yacht, Kingfisher, then take it.
The weather was very good for us but presented a problem for our hosts as they had not had rain for months causing a severe water shortage. However that was managed in a friendly and cooperative way.
You could spend the whole time without using your car. There are many good restaurants, beaches and hills. There is a regular ferry to Pahia and many more places to visit.

We loved our stay here in a private room with private bathroom with an amazing view and breakfast! We didn’t need to drive for two days as everything was within walking distance that we needed. Beautiful quiet spot with lovely hosts! Would recommend to anyone to stay here and enjoy! If you aren’t good with walking though, you would just drive to the beach or town. There is stairs as well to get up to the room.
Breakfast was fresh coffee and orange juice, a platter of fruit with cereal and yogurt. Toast and homemade jams. 🌴😁

Wonderful location with fantastic views from this small B&B in Russell. There are only two guest rooms.
The room big. Unfortunately carpet, which I don't like. When you shower, the whole bathroom/WC is under water.
Breakfast is available in the fridge. We would have loved it if the goods had been replenished for the second day.
Good choice - but there are a few things you could do better. Then it would be perfect.

This hotel is supposed to have a 4-star rating, but I wonder what it's for?
I wouldn't even call this accommodation a hotel. A youth hostel would probably be more comfortable.
There are only 2 rooms here, we had the Hibiscus Suite (!), which wasn't particularly nice, small, uncomfortable.
Breakfast was supposed to be taken on the balcony, but that was not possible, too cold. Breakfast was very spartan, cereal, fruit, coffee, white toast. There wasn't even an egg for breakfast.
Conclusion: You don't need this "hotel" / accommodation at all!!!

Villa Russell is within short walking distance of Russell township, situated in a lovely scenic spot that overlooks the bay. Our room opens up to fantastic balcony where we can relax and enjoy the fantastic bay view and birdlife. A great chorus from the local native birds, featuring beautiful singing Tui(s) and at night the Kiwi(s) join in too. (The Kiwis come out at night so you can't always see them in the bush). So that is the "sights 'n' sounds" taken care of.
The accommodation is first class and very comfortable. Includes nice open shower and warmed floor tiles.
Sue and Stephen Western (hence "Best Western" pun above) are lovely hosts and they are extremely helpful and friendly. Really nice talking to them. But wait, there is more. They also spoil you with a really really great breakfast to start your day. Begins with a continental breakfast of cereals with seasonal fruit and yoghurt, juice and hot drinks...and then you get a cooked breakfast with bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, mushrooms, toast etc. Also jam and honey available on toast.
And if you enjoy great scenic photography: Stephen is your man. He has thousands of fantastic shots of NZ and overseas.
Overall, I thoroughly recommend Villa Russell as a first class place to stay at Russell. I haven't even mentioned the great local attractions in Russell. I totally agree with the other reviews on this Bed and Breakfast accommodation. Thanks Sue and Stephen for our stay.

The view from the rooms is hard to beat and the B&B is in a great location with all the local sights and amenities just a short stroll away.
Tasty breakfasts set you up for the day.
The rooms are clean and well equipped, although possibly not as luxurious as one would hope for given the price, although I accept that NZ is an expensive place to visit and Russell accommodation obviously carries a premium because of the beautiful surroundings.
