It’s a great location and a beautiful old building which has been tastefully decorated with real plants an abundance of white orchids. The staff were charming and obviously working very hard to give a good service, especially the waiters Lunch, dinner and breakfast all wonderfully presented. The rooms and beds are comfortable with nice heavy curtains that shut out the light. The Spa and pool was a little too warm and claustrophobic for my liking but again the staff were very helpful and I had one of the best massages ever having pulled a pulled a muscle in my shoulder a couple of weeks ago Carly fixed my trapped nerve and back so I came home feeling 100% better so thank you and I will definitely be back again

Arrived at the hotel early the receptionist was welcoming and kind and we were allowed in the room early, lots of hand sanitiser and were asked to wear masks in public areas. Our room number 360 was sealed and spotlessly clean. It was a beautiful room with a small lounge in the turret. Great air conditioning and views of the garden.
Lunch wasn’t on but the Chef kindly made us sandwiches for lunch. And we had a bottle of wine.
We had dinner and Excellent service in restaurant and bar,
The menu was limited but the food was well cooked and delicious. We asked for the same bottle of wine we’d had for lunch but was charged £59 as the wrong wine was served, we enquired and price was reduced to £39 but still expensive as originally we’d wanted the £27 bottle. We were given a free drink though and overall a great experience.
Breakfast first day was a bit confusing and our orders we’re wrong but they changed the system the second morning and it worked really well and was great food and service.

Few improvements could be made in the room as there is
No overhead light or light by dressing table and the light is not bright enough to read easily. No Sockets by bed.
No bottled water in room which would have been nice as not everyone likes hot drinks.
The bed was very Firm and pillows are not great.

We went to an amazing italian restaurant the second night 10 mins up the round La SORRENTINA highly recommended.

All in all a lovely stay with fabulous service and food thank you.

We visited shortly after hotels were allowed to reopen and were very impressed with the measures that had been put into place to ensure safety. Hand sanitiser everywhere, breakfast delivered to room, reduced paper menus and a seal on our room.
Beautiful grounds and lovely terrace for drinks.
Dinner was delicious. My only feedback would be that pizza served at dinner time should be on a plate not in a box. No big deal, just seemed a bit odd!
Will absolutely visit again.

Due to COVID and the pressures of work this was our first break in over a year.

After travelling for almost 3 hours on arrival the receptionist informed us food was not being served and if we wanted lunch we would have to search in one of the surrounding villages for a cafe, disappointed we set off only to find, being a Sunday all the local eateries were either closed or fully booked, we ended up purchasing a sandwich from a petrol station.

When we returned another member of staff informed us the receptionist was wrong and lunch could have been provided.

We were given a room that had not been prepared nor cleaned, no kettle, tea etc, mould around the window, cobwebs, the furniture had seen better days, the room was a disgrace, we asked a member of staff to inspect the room who apologised confirming we had been given an unprepared room, with our long awaited relaxing break now not so relaxing I asked reception for a refund but was refused though we were offered another room but we would have to wait while the room was prepared, this meant we missed our allotted swim.

While waiting we decided to have a drink at the bar, none of the draft beer was available so purchased two small bottles of beer each, two pints came to £24.

As we sat down to dinner we were informed we would have to pay towards the cost of the meal even though our package was for full dinner and breakfast, I returned to our room to find the booking confirmation, on showing the waiter he then offered the dinner on a complementary basis even though it had been paid for!. During dinner I receive a text from the hotel saying I had to pre-book breakfast, once again I had to leave the table to find a member of staff who after rummaging through some papers found my breakfast order I had given in earlier in the day.

We were awoken at around 4.30am due to someone in the room above walking around, I guess a member of staff getting ready for work.

We got up and left.

I have written to the General Manager, Steve Lewis, no response.

I have written to Head Office, Macdonald hotels, no response.

They have our money so I assume they just do not care.

Upon arrival we all loved the location, grounds and initial look of the hotel. Everything looked lovely. When we checked in we weren’t advised about room location, location of dinner, location of breakfast, spa location or checkout time. Having worked in the hospitality industry I would expect this sort of info as minimum upon check-in. Eventually received all the info as I asked. Rooms were lovely at a first glance but could do with a really deep clean and a tidy up on the old weathered furniture. When we visited the spa we were advised there were no towels and we weren’t allowed robes as we weren’t having treatments. Although the ‘spa’ facilities are good there most certainly isn’t enough eating by the pool. As we had no where to sit we decided to go back to the room and have a tea and pop back down a little later, again only three towels between four guests. On this occasion we asked if we could have a robe and were advised we couldn’t as it was ‘against hotel policy’ not entirely sure letting guests walk through the hotel in their swimwear isn’t policy either but we did it regardless. The score would be much lower if it wasn’t for the amazing food we received. It really was exceptionally good. I think they need to work on their customer service and hotel policies RE robes and towels etc. Four guests shouldn’t have to share three towels, not four star in my eyes.

We visited the hotel as part of a two night stay visiting Legoland. It started off badly as we were given a double room instead of a family room, the list of issues is long! We had no coffee or milk in the room. We were told they had problems with their supplier! The water bottles were not replaced after we had used them on the first day. The room had only one small bottle of shampoo, shower gel and there was no soap (staggering considering the importance of cleaning our hands under COVID). The gueue for breakfast on the 2nd morning was long and tedious and breakfast (although plentiful) was cold. Although the hotel advertises a varied kids menu, there was no vegetarian option for our son. When we asked about vegetarian options, there was no apology - we were told that my son could have the meatball option without the meatballs! Overall, the hotel seemed short staffed and cutting back. The only plus points were some of the staff, in particularly we had a lovely Spanish waiter who was incredibly attentive and good humoured.

My partner booked a spa weekend (2 night break) but we couldn’t go during lockdown. When we changed the booking to September, we weren’t told most of the facilities would not be in use. I called up to ask about treatments and had to ask myself.
Some of the staff were nice but nothing was really explained. We had to book pool slots (only 25 minutes each day) and that’s again, only because I called up to ask. They told us they only had a slot at 6.30pm available for Saturday night. Instead we opted for 8.30am slots Saturday, Sunday and Monday which meant no lie ins for us.
We were never told that the spa weren’t giving out towels so had to go back to the room to get the towels given to us there.
Due to the outdoor pool, sauna, steam and jacuzzi being closed, I did ask if an upgrade on the room would be possible and was told it wasn’t. Our room was basic, rundown and an old wet swimming costume was still in the bin from the previous guest. Not something you want to find especially during a pandemic when health and safety should be at the forefront!
Fortunately, dinner was delicious. Two course meal included in our package. There’s a nice outside space to have a drink too.
We had afternoon tea included in the package too which we had on the Sunday. It was almost inedible bar the scones. The sandwiches were stale and had definitely been made in advance and left until we arrived. A real disappointment to anyone actually coming to the hotel especially for afternoon tea.
Due to Covid, there was a queue for breakfast for 20minutes which we understood but would have chosen a different time slot if we had known.
Overall, the weekend was disappointing given the money we had spent. We understand things have had to change due to COVID but feel the hotel needs some modernising and a bit more of an uplift. The staff also don’t seem that happy!

Dear guest, Thank you for your honest review and feedback. We are working in extremely challenging times and are opening facilities in line with advice and regulations in a safe and covid-secure manner. it is not always possible to inform every guest of all of the changes in advance of their arrival, but you rightly point out that effective communication should be a priority at reception when guests arrive. We will look at ways that this can be improved. We were glad that you enjoyed some aspects of your stay and will work hard to improve in the areas that you feel did not meet expectations. We hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the future. Thank you

Booked this for my daughters 40th birthday surprise for myself and her two sisters. The trip was just after it reopened and we tried to get more details regarding the spa and restaurant. No-one picked up the phone, our emails were ignored and eventually we had a phone call the day before the trip to be told the spa had limited treatments and would we like to eat in the restaurant. By this time we had made other arrangements to eat out. Upon arriving there was no-one on reception and when someone arrived they told us breakfast would be in our rooms and gave us a limited breakfast menu. At no time had we been told this before hand or even from the call we had received the day before. The breakfast we received (some items missing) was certainly not up to a four star hotel. My daughter asked to speak to the manager on the Friday and was told he would ring the next day. No call came. She was told he would see her next day but not until mid morning by which time we had left. To date she has received no call (over a week later). A letter has been sent by email and hard copy and once again they have not had the decency to reply. All in all a very poor experience. Customer service has been atrocious. We completely understood the Covid restrictions but this was bad communication right from the beginning.

Beautiful hotel with beautiful grounds right by Ascot racecourse.
The hotel smelt amazing as we walked in and was clean and impressive. The lady at checkin was lovey
Our room was a deluxe with 2 extra beds for the kids, the room was large and clean with all the amenities you’d expect, the only negative on the room was there were no net curtains on the very large window and we were road side with flats opposite.
The pool area was clean, the kids enjoyed their swim which we had booked for each day in a 30min covid slot. There was a tiny hydra pool and outdoor pool for adults only which was mainly used by spa stay guests (I’d be a little underwhelmed If on a spa stay)
We were unable to have a treatment as fully booked and only booked the hotel 10 days before arriving no one answers the phone on the number given on the website!
Unable to book dinner in the restaurant for our stay as full which was a shame & the Italian 2min up the road was also full so we visited one in Bagshot which was 10/10 Bel Vedere
Had afternoon tea in the restaurant at lunchtime and it was lovely - although never got the tea.
Breakfast was delicious and well organised, we ate at 8 both mornings and had no issues but as we left each day there was a long queue so 8.30 must have been popular or 8am stragglers arriving late maybe.
My only negative about the hotel was understaffing. In the bar area, which due to COVID is table service only, it took forever to order a drink and forever for the drink to arrive. I think they needed a few more staff. All the staff were run off of their feet and working extremely hard - with a huge smile on the face - what a lovely bunch! I would have given it 5/5 otherwise.

Dear Jane B Thank you for your detailed and positive review. We are very thankful for the feedback, both positive and negative, and recognise the shortcomings where improvements are required. We are working within the Covid safe guidelines and this does make elements of our business operation a challenge, however take customer feedback very seriously and try to make small changes each day to improve the experience. Your comments about the staff will be passed on, we are in this business to please customers and it is always such a boost for everyone to hear that their efforts are making our customers happy. Thank you again, we hope to welcome you back soon.

Very disappointing visit! I have stayed at a macdonalds hotel before and had high expectations (bathrobe, slippers etc!) there was none of that and could it be due to covid??

The hotel looks ok and the bar is nice waiters very attentive. however, our room was awful it was dated and looked like the furniture was from the charity shop. It was a standard room.

It was very clean but I think that was due to covid. There was no hairdryer and when I phoned reception is just rung and rung as there was no one there!

The walls are thin and you can hear people’s conversations as they walk by. Our bedroom was obviously over where they empty the bottles as that’s what we woke up to bottles crashing.

We requested breakfast in our room, it arrived late without being covered and clearly had gone through a journey before it got to us as it was stone cold, again no point calling reception as no one answers!

We booked a package through voyage privae which included breakfast and dinner however in the restaurant we were told only £25 off per person from our bill for dinner and they didn’t do the £10 off Per person eat out to help out even though it was a Wednesday.

It should not be classed as a 4 star hotel I don’t think it’s even a 3 star.

I would not recommend or visit again.

I was in it a week or so again, already the summer hols had started but i believe the kids were restricted at certain times. We certainly weren't bothered by them and had a lovely swim. I'm sure they will let you know what times. Hugely jealous of you as we had a lovely spa day there. Trying to organise another with friends in September,
