We stayed 2 nights at this lovely Inn in easy reach of Preston. With a little more attention to detail, this would be a 5. The things that let it down: Towel rail coming away from the wall. This was reported on our first morning but not rectified. Room too hot even with no heating and windows open. When we had an evening meal, we were asked about drinks before we had even got seated. We had a chicken burger type meal - the chips were too crispy and salty for our taste and served in a mini bucket so they cooled swifty. Since the plate wasn't hot, tipping them out sadly wouldn't have helped. However, the positives definitely outweighed the points above as below: Excellent value for money - better than a Premier Inn or similar. Tastefully decorated room with plenty of storage and all essentials. Large bed with extra pillows available. Good quality complimentary toiletries. Large easy to use shower. Better than usual selection of complimentary drinks, with good quality tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water and also biscuits both days. Lovely breakfast. Separate hotel guest entrance. Plenty of parking and easy to find. £10 towards food or drinks for booking directly with the hotel. No lift but ground floor rooms are available. We would happily book a J W Lees hotel again.

Lovely food, lovely pub. Booked a table for 15 and all the food came out hot and delicious. No complaints at all. The staff were attentive and made sure drink orders were taken and were lovely with the children. The restrooms were nice and clean and had nice toiletries. Would definitely recommend.

Overall we had a nice stay here. Staff were very friendly and we unfortunately had to cancel dinner. The peacock outside was amusing and seemed very popular. We took a few grains of muesli and fed it some outside and were told off by the staff member who old us it's vermin and not suitable for a food establishment. That's fine but maybe take care of the dead pheasant carcass that's been lying in your carpark which was the food first thing we saw on arrival to the place. Just put a sign up saying don't feed it or inform people not to do it in advance. Put a right dampener on our otherwise pleasant(or pheasant) stay.

We were a little bit worried as we booked it late but we shouldn’t have been. Decent sized family room. Bargain at £99, seriously under priced. I mean look, it hasn’t got a rain shower but it works, there’s the odd mark here and there that you’d like to think would have been taken care of but its clean, functional and the bed was perfect, even the sofa bed for the kids was large. Only thing I’d recommend for the owners is look at the door closers in the corridor outside room number 4. Made quite a loud banging noise which wasn’t great right up till about midnight but a minor issue. Didn’t eat or drink there but looked nice inside. Great selection of biscuits and drinks in the room though. Toiletries were good and lots in the bathroom. Would certainly book again, currently sat in a £259 a night room writing this and apart from the kids having their own beds now, there’s not a lot of difference.

A delightful 2 night stay on a business trip - haven’t stayed here for many years - I remember it being called the Boddingtons Arms many years ago when I joined the Brewery just around the corner - super happy with the choice !! Lovely superb staff greeting in every respect - they all make so much effort to make your stay feel that extra but special. Great food, fab cooked to order breakfast and a nice atmosphere in the bar / restaurant area. Nice comfy rooms - value for money stay that you simply can’t fault. Thanks a lot team Bluebird 👌

Needed to visit Preston so was after local hotel near the motorway. Location was perfect for us. Booking direct with the hotel we managed a dinner, bed & breakfast package for about £139 for 2 people, and got another £10 voucher while there to go towards food, drink or end bill. So we thought this was pretty excellent value for money. The dinner was tasty, service quick and friendly! The breakfast was really exceptional - I couldn't fault it. Unfortunately sleep quality was really poor. Both of us found the mattress too hard and very uncomfortable, and the bathroom we had smelled strongly of sewage. The heater in the bedroom also clicked loudly all night - usually we wouldn't heat a bedroom as we prefer it cool, but the room felt absolutely freezing on arrival so we needed it on. It was fine and good value for money for staying 1 night, but any longer and we would have asked to try another room in hopes for a dinner mattress/smell/heater.

Thanks jodilvdb for your review, I am pleased you enjoyed your dinner and breakfast. I am sorry you found the mattress hard, all of our beds do have a mattress topper on. I would have been happy to change the room for you if you would have liked so we could look at the bathroom and heater.

Popped in here as close to Salmesbury Hall and what a delight. All the staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Seated by a roaring fire in lively surroundings and quickly chose our meals. Opted for chicken caesar salad (with real anchovies), a seabass salad and a small fish and chips. The portions were generous, with a whale sized fish to go with chips and mushy peas. Cant say that we didnt get value for money! It was all prepared and cooked beautifully. Being too full for pudding we had tea and coffees which were hot and tasty, accompanied by a little round of shortbread. Just gorgeous!!!!

Nice hotel, room smelt a little musty but opened the window for a while and that sorted it. The bar closed early so we missed out on last orders which was a shame. No option for room service for residents. The staff are lovely though and very welcoming

Thank you for your review shorro172187, sorry about the room smelling musty. We do close between 10pm and 11pm depending on if there is anyone in the bar and as we are an inn and not a full service hotel we do not do room service. You are more than welcome to take drinks though from the bar to your room and the same with food as long as you come and collect your food when it is ready.
