This was my forth trip to The French House Party and as before it didn’t disappoint, delivering beyond all expectations as usual, despite being in limbo during COVID, providing an imaginative and interesting itinerary of food related activities. On arrival meeting with the other guests, a pair of couples from Southern Ireland the ‘famous five’ was created it was going to fun few days. Moira and her team had laid on a delightful lunch before out trip out to Limoux, to visit the ancient and historic Maison Guinot, maker of the Methode Traditionnelle Blanquette and Cremant sparkling wines, the origin of Champagne. We followed this with a delightful evening meal and settled down for several days of visits, quality restaurants, cooking, eating and the occasional glass of wine (It always flows copiously!). Our two chef tutors with years of experience in high end establishments, one, Jean Marc Boyer the chef patron of the Michelin starred Le Puit Du Tresor in the tiny village of Lastours held since 2007, the other Gregory Legros, an extremely experienced international chef having worked in both Michelin star and high end restaurant and hotels for many years gave us some amazing lessons in a range of cookery skills and techniques which were both interesting and practical. The cookery lessons were interspersed with visits to the local market, the Citadel of Carcassonne, Marion Les Chocolats, an artisan chocolatier who showed us how to temper and make numerous delights to take away. As before The French House Party provided an excellent escape for a few days, lovely air conditioned rooms overlooking a swimming pool to cool you down in the summer months, beautiful breakfasts with hot croissants, cheese, ham, jams, juices, cereals, fresh fruit, tea and coffee you will NOT go hungry and lots to keep you busy during the day and convivial dinning in the evening also overlooking the swimming pool with stunning sunsets (weather permitting). The French House Party comes highly recommended, this year in August, the very talented (genius) Mike Batt of Wombles fame amongst his well known songs is attending the school as guest tutor in a creative songwriting event so if music is your thing, check it out quickly as its sure to be an amazing event.…

The cooking class was titled “Gourmet Explorer” and it certainly lived up to its name! Located in the country side near Carcassonne we experienced - along with cooking classes - several highly rated restaurants, visited a winery; checked out the market in Carcassonne, and made the most amaaazing chocolates. The cooking we did was fabulous - pastries; vegetables; duck; fish; scallops; lobster - so many ideas to take home and impress our friends! Altogether a delightful 6 days at The French House Party!

Oh my word! If you enjoy food and like to cook this experience is fantastic! I have just returned having did the explorer food class with my adult daughter who also loves to cook as well and my wife who actually hung out and worked but enjoyed the evenings and the food! Wow is all I can say, our gracious hostess Moira is amazingly accommodating as well as those who assist her, Isabel,Neal, Vicki, Corrine. Thanks to each and everyone for making this such a delight and a wonderful memory for my daughter and I! - The Chefs!! A Wahla! Lauren, Remi, and Jean Marc! Tres Bonn!! Thank you so much! The instruction, the camaraderie, the food! all so incredible! If you have any doubts, caste them aside and do this!! you will not regret! Cool moment as well when Macron's personal chef called Jean Marc and asked if he could come and cook for Macron while we were standing there! Pretty cool!! What can I say apart from what a host. Moira and her team looked after us from the second we arrived to the second we had to leave. The food was fab, and endless! The facilities are second to none and the scenery breathtaking (If the weather plays its part!) Travelled as a group for 3 days and would love to return.

We stayed with Myra for two nights and she was an amazing host. The house is really spacious and very comfortable with a large lounge, games room with a pool table. Outside has a great pool and plenty of sun loungers.

A group of us stayed with Moria and her friends across 2 houses and everything was taken care of. Nothing was missed. It's Moria and her friends which make this ultra special and throw in a Michelin star chef cooking for you, lunch within Carcassonne castle and then another 5 course dinner in a luxury French chateau plus a private tour of a winery. Oh did I mention private travel to each and every place including airport pick up and drop offs? Each house is delightful and has swimming pools, table tennis, tennis and a pool table and this is a fantastic way to spend time in France with friends. Don't look anywhere else just book and you'll have a lifelong memory of a great time.

Just spent 2 days with Moira and her crew on a work trip . An amazing place with attitudes match, very laid back and nothing was too much trouble. Great facilities as well as great liasons with local business's to provide activities to keep you busy during your stay . Would go back with family and friends in a flash, can't recommend this place enough.

I read many of the reviews before signing up to attend the writing retreat at the FHP. Now that I've returned from my first trip...I understand why so many people return year after year. Moira Martingale is an amazing host. She and her team take care of everything, from the moment you sign up, until you reluctantly say your goodbyes the last day. My flight from the states was delayed but I had nothing to worry about as Moira had been following my itinerary and made sure someone was there to pick me up. The house and surrounding property was beautiful. I had a wonderful corner room (the Chocolat room) with a large window in the front and french doors (and balcony) on the side. I often worked at my desk and enjoyed a nice cross breeze when both were open. All the rooms in the house were comfortable and cozy. The food was so delicious. I often forgot I was on a writing retreat and not a gourmet food trip. Many of us took walks down to the Canal du Midi each day just so our clothes would continue to fit. I have not felt this spoiled in a very long time! The writing retreat was run by the talented, perceptive, approachable and always encouraging Sarah Hymas. I found the individual tutoring sessions to be extremely helpful and was thrilled with the progress I made during the week. The structure of the program was perfect in my opinion…I think Moira and Sarah have discovered the secret to providing the perfect balance between time together and time on your own. With neither being forced. Thank you to Moira, Sarah and my fellow attendees for making the week so fabulous and special and I hope to one day add my name to the returnee's file. Besides, my team needs a rematch on the petanque...oops, I mean boules court.…

This was my first visit to the French House Party for the writers' retreat week and I'm determined it won't be my last. The house is beautiful and Moira's hosting was the perfect mix of attentive whilst leaving us to write when we were doing so. The food was sublime, all tastes and food requirements were catered for and I have never eaten so well in my life. I spent my week writing, swimming, napping and eating. Sarah's individual tutor sessions were extremely helpful and I feel confident in continuing my learning with her guidance. Thank you both for making everything so wonderful.
