The Correze area is a road cyclist’s paradise - undulating but with some good climbs and descents, lovely scenery, very little traffic and some great cafes for coffee stops. James has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the local roads and recommended or led rides to suit our differing abilities, varying ambitions and the changeable weather conditions. Every ride involved a relaxing coffee and/or lunch stop at one of the many picturesque villages or towns in the area. When the cycling is over we were welcomed back with a slice of Sam’s wonderful home-made cakes then the chance to relax in the beautifully restored barn or grounds before dinner which was exceptional every night we ate there. Sam is a brilliant cook who uses mainly locally sourced ingredients including many from her own kitchen garden. The food at every meal was healthy yet very tasty and beautifully presented. I travelled as a solo traveller and it just so happened that the other guests were also solo travellers. The relaxed atmosphere created by Sam and James and the communal meals meant that it was easy to get to know the other guests and we soon gelled as a group. Overall, the Correze Cycling experience is wonderful.

A group of us stayed here with our delightful hosts Sam and James for a week of cycling and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. This is an absolute must for cycle lovers with stunning countryside, plenty of hills for the more experienced and hardly a car in sight. Sam and James couldn’t have done more for us. James is an exceptional guide whilst Sam visits local markets and prepares delicious food for our return. We were so sad to leave

Sam and James are wonderful, gracious hosts at the most amazing home tucked away in Espagnac. There's everything you could ask for - bikes, expert cycling guides, beautiful hills, a pool, a cute do, and lovely views. The photos on their website do not lie! I haven't mentioned the nicely furnished home and delicious meals all prepared by Sam. You can also go for hiking holidays; I'd love to go again and mix it up! Self-catering holidays are also possible. Be sure to venture into the nearby towns, especially Brive!

We spent a splendid week in this B&B. We were about the only guests. The British all had to cancel, unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The house is, however, full corona proof. Dinners outside or inside at 1.5 meter. Beautiful house, very cosy and comfortable rooms. The domain itself is also gorgeous with a beautiful pond. Splendid swimming pool. But, most of all, the hosts (particularly the lady of the house) made it all. 100% English, but also 100% French since also naturalized, and completely immersed into the local culture. Breakfast and dinners very enjoyable. We will be back!

This holiday was great, I've written a blog of our experience.
In May 2014, my parents and I went on a holiday to Correze Cycling Holidays, located in the Limousin region in the southern part of France. Correze Cycling runs a guided cycle holiday. The idea was that I would go cycling, and my parents would do walking around there. Having only just got into cycling, I was a bit nervous, but my fears were misguided. James, one of the hosts, does guided cycling routes with the guests, they are tailored to everyone’s needs, and combine great routes, with lovely, relatively quiet roads, and a cafe stop or two. There are only 5 rooms here, so the groups of cyclists aren’t that large. By the end of the holiday, I was doing some great climbs (longest one 12kms) and had overcome my fear of descending. James provides really good advice and really boosts confidence.
At the end of each ride, we arrive back in Correze, to coffee and cakes, with a homemade freshly baked cake every day, done by Sam, the other host. In the evening she cooks a fantastic 4 course gourmet meal, 6 days a week; really welcome after a long day’s ride.
I managed to get my father into cycling, and last October, having enjoyed our last time so much my father and I went back. This time we took our bikes out with us, carried in bike boxes, and then with the help of James we assembled them on site. Another fantastic week of cycling with lovely guests.
We decided to go again this May, and met up with a couple of guests whom we had met from last time. The weather was amazing, so we had six full days of cycling. There were another couple as well this year, who hadn’t done much cycling before, but they had a good time also.
On the first day we did an introductory ride, about 50kms. We cycled to a beautiful lake for lunch, followed by a couple of twisting descents and climbs back up to Chateauret (which is where Correze Cycling is based), for coffee and cakes.
On the second day we did a lovely route, about 60kms with a descent down to the Dordogne river, followed by lunch in the town of Argentat. After this we did a 12km climb, about 400m of climbing up to a plateau, and then cycled back along the top back to Chateauret.
The third day, the newer couple had a rest and myself, Dad and the two other guests whom we had met last year went cycling in the Millevache hills, with James guiding us. This was a 70km route, which included about 1300m of climbing. We did two largish hills, the Col de Geant and the Suc au May, both of which featured in the Paris-Correze one day classic. The latter hill topped out at 905m altitude, and had another 12km climb. It concluded in a bunch sprint to the top, and I took a win for the Wellington Wheelers. It was a really fast and awesome descent back to the start, and back home for some very welcome coffee and cakes.
On the fourth day, which was supposed to be a recovery ride, we cycled another 80kms, including taking in a couple of lovely Mediaeval villages of Aubazines and Beynat. This concluded with a 12km descent, the one we had climbed up the previous day. The Garmin was recording max speeds of 72kph, really fun. After a cracking 8km climb we returned to Chateauret.
The fifth and sixth days were probably the best cycling days. On the fifth, we all cycled 100kms taking in some amazing climbs and descents (1200m). The weather was great and this was a really fun day, with a gourmet 3 course lunch at Beaulieu sur Dordogne, and several cafe stops. We did two longish climbs, and a superfast 11km descent to Argentat (filmed on GoPro camera). All the guests really enjoyed the ride, this was one of the couples’ last day. We had a bit of a fright en route; as we were cycling along a snake suddenly slithered onto the road, making everyone jump, but we soon recovered.
The last day, was probably the hardest. We drove for 1 hour, to the Auvergne mountains, and cycled up to the highest mountain in the Massif Central. The mountain is called the Puy Mary, it tops out at 1600m above sea level, and has featured in the Tour de France before. We did a continuous climb of about 900m of ascent, before stopping for lunch at the top of the pass. A great climb. After lunch we descended down, the way we had come, a bit windy but seriously fun.
We had a great holiday: I would highly recommend it to anybody, from a novice cyclist to a semi-pro. James and Sam are amazing hosts, and really make the experience special. The roads, scenery and the food is amazing, and in my opinion far far better than in the UK. Hopefully my Dad and I will be booking to go again soon!!. Correze cycling have a facebook page, which has some great info and photos, and their website is www.correzecycling.com . I’ve also put the routes we did onto Strava and have got loads of photos and some films on my facebook page, if people want to have a look.

Over the last couple of years, we have cycled the length and breadth of Europe and have stayed in many a different hostel, hotel, hut and campsite all with differing standards of provision. My wife and I are in agreement that Correze Cycling Holiday (correzecycling.com) beat all the other competitors in every category. I know that the owners Sam and James will read this along with, I hope other cyclists, and I want to make it clear that the comments that follow are genuine; the welcome was warm (much, much warmer than the mid-winter weather), accommodation was equally warm, immaculately presented and catered for every need; the food was exceptional – being that rare combination of wholesome, carefully sourced and delicious; the attention to detail did not stop there, as the bikes were seen as an important part of the whole and James was always on hand to assist with maintenance and transport. The cycling in this area caters for all abilities with challenges to suit your ambitions. With quiet roads in beautiful countryside littered with charming villages, many with welcoming bars and cafés, you may be absolutely certain that this is an experience second to none. We much appreciated the company and patience of Sam and James and their family. Thank you all.

This is the sixth time I have been back to Correze Cycling Holidays; it really is a perfect cycling paradise. I have thoroughly enjoyed every time there and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Sam's cooking is absolutely superb with a lovely four course meal every evening and a homemade cake every afternoon! James's knowledge of the local routes is fantastic and he is so helpful with guiding cyclists of every ability from the novice to the more experienced.
This time, we stayed for seven days. We had six days of cycling and tried several new routes, including a trip to the mountains. Every day was such an enjoyable experience; with the stunning scenery, good roads and lack of traffic. We went with a great group of friends which made it so memorable.
If you are thinking of a cycling holiday, don't think of going anywhere else. It really is such a perfect place...

I have just come back from 8 days cycling with James as our guide and Sams catering expertise. All I can say is that if you like cycling, stunning and varied scenery, good food and to be looked after well than this is the holiday you need to book - don't even consider putting another possibility on your list - it will not come up to the standards that James and Sam can provide. The accommodation is extremely high quality, the guided rides are tailored to your needs with totally stunning and the food is . . . . . well I really don't know how to describe it other than perfect. In fact the whole package is perfect so please just book I am as confident as I can be that you won't be disappointed - for me it was 'Heaven on Earth'.

James and Sam have really got something special at Chateauret.
The accommodation, ambience, food, company and cycling experiences all top-drawer.
From the moment you arrive at this beautifully restored and very comfortable farmhouse it is clear a very great deal of thought and effort has been invested in this project and nothing seems too much trouble. Incredible food every night...thank-you Sam. (Including nearby restaurant in Espagnac for Sam's night off.)
The local countryside is beautiful and totally unspoiled. Roads very quiet. A huge variety of routes available to meet virtually every cycling need. ( Only qualification I would make is this is not ideal terrain for complete beginners.) Picturesque villages for coffee/lunch stops. James is a thoughtful, entertaining and endlessly patient guide. .
There seemed to be a lot of returning guests and I very much hope to be amongst their number in years to come.

I have always wanted to cycle in France, and Correze cycling had it all! There was a surprise around every turn, albeit a climb, small village, stunning valley views, lunch, or a stream winding alongside the road. I strongly recommend this spot to base yourself for cycling. It offers personalised cycle trips catering for all abilities, fabulous food and accommodation, and a warm welcome. I travelled there by train and James picked me up from the station and organised a bike and accessories for me. At no time did I feel "a bother". I would happily return. It was a great way to experience country France.
