Detailed Reviews
I stayed here for two nights during the Cheltenham Festival, I chose the Ragged Cot because I booked too late and most other hotels were horribly overpriced, and because on Google Maps there was a bus stop nearby (I travelled by public transport) – but I'm so glad I ended up here. Right on arrival the location is so charming, you very much feel like you are wonderfully secluded in the Cotswolds.
I was very impressed with the quality of the room, especially at such a reasonable price. It was quiet, spacious, and cosy. The bathroom was modern and I loved the rain shower (though, personally, the toiletries were not to my taste so maybe bring your own).
The food in the pub was only okay. I liked the appetizer and salad on the first night, but the night I got back later from the races I only just managed to order before the kitchen closed. I was told there would be a delay because there was only one cook in, which was fine with me since presumably I was the last order; after a 40-minute wait my burger finally arrived and the bun was ice cold (and I think even I can make a burger faster than that!). The hot breakfast I ordered on my second morning was also mediocre and relatively cold by the time it was in front of me.
All of the staff I encountered were incredibly friendly and welcoming. When I mentioned going to the Cheltenham Festival, one of the ladies serving at breakfast even made me a takeaway bag of croissants and fruit, which I found so lovely. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the Ragged Cot for a Cotswolds getaway. It really felt like I was spoiling myself without breaking the bank and I would be happy to go back.

Nice relaxing place to stay, lovely room with comfy bed. The surrounding gardens are nicely kept. Upon entering the room it smelt a bit musty initially.
The food on the other hand was very disappointing, both Dinner and the Full English Breakfast.
Whilst the dinner came quickly, the chips were very overdone, not really that edible. And the minty mushy peas were more like dry mushed peas with a very strange taste of mint. Possibly been in the microwave for too long.
In my opinion tartar sauce for the fish & mint don't go well together. I didn't complain about the meal as there didn't seem to be any other options for food in the area. And I was starving after a long journey.
Breakfast was nicely laid out with cereal, fruit and pastries, fresh juice and coffee/tea.
The pastries didn't seem that fresh, or tasty. Full English again tasted weird & not enjoyable. Perhaps it was something to do with the oil used or the way it was cooked. I really couldn't pinpoint what it was and left most of it.
Personally I thought the food & drink was expensive and the menu was limited. I wouldn't recommend the food at all unless it's improved.

Second visit to this cute hotel near Tetbury. Great locativo for visiting Highgrove and very reasonably priced compared to some in the Cotswolds. Use it as a base. Rooms are great size with good facilities and good bathrooms. Characterful decor. A small bar and good dining room. Lovely cute building outside. Unfortunately our one night visit coincided with work being done to the kitchen and we didn’t have the cooked hot breakfast options that we had the first time we visited. When I asked nicely for a discount it was not forthcoming! We had a long day ahead and really looked forward to the hot food so the breakfast was disappointing as a result. We were only told of this when we arrived. Also there was a Barbecue and band event going on when we arrived which meant that the restaurant wasn’t serving food! So not as good a visit as before because of this! Bad timing I suppose. The new waitress at breakfast was amazing and worked so hard to keep us and guests well supplied with coffees. Our friends had booked a twin room but it was made up as a king on arrival so they waited in our room while their room was reconfigured- they were also missing the correct number of towels! All trivial I know but we were only there for one night and this all took time. Otherwise a good experience overall with some nice staff.

Went here for lunch, the staff were really nice and the beer was lovely. But food and service let it down terribly. We ordered a starter and a main, the mains got messed up and 1 was sent to another table then we watched the waitress it back out to the kitchen and immediately bring it back out to our table. I didn’t know if the other table had sampled a chip or two off the plate but that put me off a bit. Then we waited about 10 minutes for my husbands order to arrive. My chips were cold from the jump but stone cold by the time his arrived. His then went back as they forgot bacon. I had a chicken burger and it was a good attempt just weird. The batter was all around the edge of the chicken, which just tasted like fried flour. It had Asian coleslaw with Peri peri mayo which was a flavour combo I won’t recommend. The onion rings just tasted like dirty fat, they went untouched. My husbands burger was clearly frozen as it tasted just like a hungry horse burger. We said to the waitress that it was a bit gross and we didn’t really enjoy it. Not looking for any money off or anything. She was a bit awkward and just said sorry and then we left £75 lighter and vowing not to go back. The old lodge is far superior and same price bracket (£20 for a main). The restaurant was also FREEZING. I sat in my coat the whole time as did the other tables. I’m not just whinging. But if everyone’s sat with their coats on - put the heating on! The toilets I could see my breath in… it was odd, like a once posh pub trying to hold onto that without success

When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely young man who checked us in and even checked our room to make sure everything was perfect. Room, on ground floor, was lovely. Good size room with generous bathroom. Room had two comfy chairs which was lovely as many hotels only have one as you get older sitting on the bed to watch tv is not good! Plenty of tea/coffee and nice toiletries. Went for dinner. Two lovely young ladies behind the bar and restaurant along with a charming young man. My first impression was how hard they worked. It was very busy and the three of them were running between bar and restaurant. Our meal was delicious and so well presented. Back to room, bed very comfy, pillows good so a good nights sleep was had. Breakfast was good. My husband had full English which he said was very good. I had poached eggs on toast. Unfortunately one egg was slightly undercooked but the other was fine. When travelling that way again we will definitely stay there. Having read some of the reviews , I wonder if you stayed in a different place to us of if you perhaps rarely stay away. Having used so many hotels both uk and around the world this one, in my opinion, is definitely in my top list. Thank you Ragged Cot.

Just returned from two night stay at The Ragged Cot. Price was fantastic due to a Wowcher deal so review could be excessively positive due to the good deal.
Complementary bottle of prosecco that came with the deal, and lovely and substantial inclusive breakfast sealed the deal
All staff very friendly and helpful.
Meals not cheap but gorgeous. .
Late fish and chips lunch on day of arrival was substantial and delicious. Cheesy garlic bread was all I wanted in evening and it was great. Evening meal on second day was guinea fowl breast which was gorgeous and pud was cherry/choc tart for him and sticky toffee pud for me (out of this world).
Room slightly smaller than had anticipated but very warm and cozy ( in fact had to turn the radiator in the bathroom off because the room got so hot)
A few small things would benefit from being rectified - the painted "headboard" behind bed was a bit scraped; found several stones in the carpet (though could have brought them in myself) and the panelling in the bathroom is probably hard to get pristine (did look a little grubby). Not a lot of hanging space but fine for a few days.
Lovely big shower cubicle but couldn't turn the shower on full because the water seemed at risk of overflowing onto bathroom floor ( a deeper tray would have been a bonus). No bath mat so shower tray did become slippery. Had to open bathroom door with some caution to avoid skinning knuckles.
Despite small niggles, a lovely stay. But might not pay double the price.

We’ve just got back from a night at The Ragged Cot and we loved it! It was bought by our daughter through Wowcher for my birthday and it included a one night’s stay with breakfast and a bottle of Prosecco.
I’d read lots of reviews and was a bit sceptical but always go with an open mind. We weren’t disappointed at all. We stayed in room 5 on the ground floor which was plenty big enough for two and had all the usual amenities…tea/coffee/biscuits/bathroom toiletries, etc., also spotlessly clean.
We ate in the restaurant that evening and the food was lovely. Couldn’t fault it at all really and all washed down with a very reasonably priced bottle of red.
All the staff we met were lovely and friendly from the girl at reception, who also served us at breakfast, to the waitress in the restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was also very good. A table set out with fresh fruit, yoghurts, juices, cereals and pastries and then the hot food was cooked to order.
All in all I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Ragged Cot and would love to visit again in the summer as they had a fabulous outside seating/dining area!

Even on a Monday, my oldest friends and I were able to meet up for a delicious lunch. So many venues are closed on a Monday, or the food sub standard, but not here. Parking is easy, although the isolated location means driving there is essential. The staff were friendly and professional, the food the best I've tasted for a long time. Just a pity it's a long way from my home, otherwise I'd be back on a regular basis.

We had a lovely 1 night stay at the Ragged Cot. The staff were friendly and professional, nice room with toasty heating, very comfortable bed and a fantastic waterfall shower. We reserved a table for dinner which we both thoroughly enjoyed, they've got a great Chef in the kitchen. The convenience of strolling to the comfort of our room after a satisfying meal was genuine bliss. To top it off the included breakfast was delicious too. We were expecting something fairly basic but got a hearty full English and eggs Benedict which kept us going for most of the day!

Very disappointing, ruined our evening. When we arrived the dome was filthy, old food remnants on the table, not laid out for us. After complaining the table was wiped and 10 minutes later the cutlery arrived with the manager. After another 10 minutes a tray of bread rolls and some olives arrived as compensation for the poor experience. Eventually we received menus with an extremely limited selection, hardly anything we really fancied, so we had fish & chips (x2), a burger, gammon and salmon (x2). Another 40 minutes elapsed before the food arrived and the portions were small, certainly not worth the monies paid. We wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and won't be returning.
