Our week-long retreat at Sam's Bungalows in Bukit Lawang was an extraordinary adventure from start to finish. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the series of jungle trekking tours guided by the knowledgeable and affable Rama. His expertise added an adventurous spirit to our exploration of the lush surroundings.

One of the most memorable aspects of our journey was an overnight stay during one of our jungle trekking tours. The camp, beautifully situated by a babbling brook, was exceptionally well-organized. Henry, the separate chef brought in for this unique experience, treated us to a fantastic meal amidst the jungle's serenity. His culinary skills added an extra layer of delight to our trekking adventure.

Back at the bungalows, the exceptional service provided by the staff, including Sam, Razor, and Andrew, continued to impress. From the cozy accommodation to the efficient organization of our trekking adventures, every detail was meticulously attended to.

The culinary delights remained a consistent highlight, with the on-site restaurant and our jungle camp both offering unbelievably delicious dishes. Henry's culinary expertise showcased the commitment to providing exceptional dining experiences.

Indulging in rejuvenating massages further heightened our relaxation, providing a perfect complement to our days filled with exploration.

Sam's Bungalows is undeniably a very special place. Its unique blend of adventure, hospitality, and culinary excellence, coupled with the outstanding contributions of Henry, Sam, Razor, and Andrew, creates an unforgettable retreat. If you seek a haven where nature meets comfort, and where every detail, including the exceptional overnight jungle camp experience and the delightful staff, is thoughtfully attended to, Sam's Bungalows in Bukit Lawang is the perfect choice.

A great accommodation: we slept here twice a few nights. First on the first floor and later in the top apartment with rooftop balcony. One room was even nicer and bigger than the other. Five rooms are just new/renewed. Everything is very clean (!!) and the rooms have really lovely and big beds, in which you sleep like a baby;-) A very spacious balcony with a lovely seat and a hammock and views of the river. The room on the top floor even has an extra bed at height for the kids with its own window with riverside view. Really recommended, as is the restaurant. Friendly staff!, nothing is too much for them. And everything on the menu is delicious, from breakfast to lunch to dinner to snacks and drinks. The fresh juices and milkshakes are delicious. Attention is paid to everything, both the bungalows and the restaurant.

I had the most amazing stay at Sam's Bungalows and Treks. From the most kind and welcoming staff, a trek filled with so many animals, the tasty food, and the comfortable room with a breathtaking view, it was an experience to remember. My family went on a day trek through the jungle and got to see many orangutans, gibbons and other wildlife. Our guides Andri and Reza were so accommodating and very educated on everything regarding the jungle with such a genuine passion. The trek through the jungle was extraordinary with the chance to view several orangutans in nature and the provided food was so delicious. If you wanted a more advanced experience like an overnight trek or for longer, they would have no trouble accommodating which is so incredible. Sam's restaurant has a spectacular menu with a variety of food and drink options. The chef was not only exceptionally talented, crafting each dish with fresh, local ingredients that truly made a delightful meal, but he was also very friendly. Overall, all the staff, especially Sam, Reza, Farhan, Irfan, and Andri, were warmhearted with a beautiful and friendly persona that made the experience unforgettable. We also met Rama at the end who was no exception. Andri made our experience truly unforgettable; we loved chatting with him and hearing about his adventures and experiences, and his warm hospitality never failed to make it better. Sam was incredible as he checked in with my family every night when we came to eat dinner to make sure everything was perfect. Finally, the room was gorgeous with a radiant balcony view of the lively jungle. It had plenty of fans which kept the room cool. Ultimately, our stay at Sam's Bungalows and Treks was an amazing mix of fun, relaxation, and friendly faces, leaving us with great memories and a real desire to return.

Staying here was a great experience. The rooms are comfy, give you a great view of the jungle & you even get a visit from some monkeys. The staff were so kind and organised a guided tour through the jungle on a days trekking tour. The food is also exceptional, with lovely local dishes as well as western options. I have visited Bukit Lawang twice and on both occasions have gravitated towards Sam's Bungalow - just a really great place!

3 day stay with the organization of a 2 day/1 night jungle trek with Pipit and Jojo who were adorable, helpful, attentive. the cook prepared great meals for us. Jojo organized games to pass the time in the evening and gave each of us an Orangutan figurine that he made during our 2 days together. the 2 nights in the room were comfortable, quiet and the staff was helpful and attentive. I 100% recommend this establishment which invoiced us for the entire service as expected without surprise

We stayed at Sam’s Bungalow before and after our 3 days/ 2 nights jungle trek and we had a great time. Our rooms (#3 and #4) were very comfortable, newly renovated and had a nice view towards the river and the jungle. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to help us when unfortunately our luggage was lost in transit. The restaurant has a nice view to the river, cool breeze and serves great Indonesian food. Our best recommendations for this place!

Our stay at Sam’s went far beyond our expectations. The way we were treated in contact before our arrival and during our visit was very warm and welcoming. If you are looking for an amazing authentic experience, this is the place to find it!

Sam’s is located as one of the last houses at the end of bukit lawang, laying directly next to the jungle and river. We stayed in the deluxe room, which offers direct views om the jungle. The same goes for the restaurant (that offers great food by the way!).
To get there, Sam arranged a taxi for pick-up (and drop-off) on Medan airport. As mentioned before, the contact before we even started our trip was very pleasant.
We did a 2D1N jungle trek with our guide Rama (Sam’s nephew) and cook Henri. This was an unforgettable experience! We had the luxury to get a private tour, since it was a quiet moment by coincedence. During the trek, we saw multiple orang utans, did an additional small hike the second day and during all that, got multiple delicious dinners, cooked by Henri. They made sure we had the most amazing time!
Getting back after the hike, we also got really nices massages right next to the river, arranged by Sam’s sister.
I have visited quite some places in Asia and also Indonesia spefically, but all and all, an experience like this is rare and definitely worth every one of your time and Rupiah’s ;)

Thanks a lot Sam!

We were guests here for 4 nights. It was just fantastic. The rooms were big, very clean, the location was great. The staff? Indescribably friendly. We were welcomed into a big family and immediately felt like we were part of it, not just guests. The trip with Rama and "Crazy Andre" was phenomenal. We were able to see so many animals and learned to love this rainforest. Being on the road for 3 days and 2 nights with these great guides just made us happy. We always felt safe despite steep climbs in the heat and slippery descents in the constant rain. The evenings in the camp were great fun and the experience in the rainforest was indescribable. We were able to observe lots of orangutans and see lots of other animals in their environment. Thank you very much for these experiences!

Our experience at Sam’s Bungalow has been one of our favourites after months of travelling. The staff are so kind and helpful, in fact everyone within the village were genuinely happy to see tourists back here and made us feel so welcome. The bungalow is in a beautiful location, somewhere I could stay forever. The rooms were stunning and the balcony has a panoramic view across the river and jungle where we saw gibbons swinging across the trees.

Jungle trekking is amazing! We only did a 1 day trek but it seamed more popular to do 3 days/2 nights. We were extremely lucky to find orangoutangs and 4 types of wild monkeys but our guide was incredible at looking for the clues to spot them outside of the large tourist groups. By booking the jungle trek through Sam’s Bungalow, me and my boyfriend had our own guide, who tailored our trek to what we wanted to see and made sure we were happy throughout.

We’ll definitely be back to Sam’s Bungalow in the future, it’s somewhere I’d recommend to all my friends and family.

I have stayed at Sam's several times, usually for several days. I feel very comfortable here. You can change towels at any time, and the rooms are cleaned regularly. The monkeys come to visit in the morning, and the restaurant offers delicious food.

My answer is coming probably too late, our room had not A/C, just a fan and a net. But that was perfect since it was quite cool in december.
