After a year of uncertainty and travel in Kenya closed down due to the pandemic and of course budgets for travel were minimal.

We opted for Tsavo, Taita Hills Safari Lodge at their two properties. We stayed at the Taita Hills for two nights and Salt Lick for 1 night.

Taita Hills Lodge is outside the sanctuary and Salt Lick is inside that game sanctuary. Both owned and managed by the same group.

The unique design of a hotel on pillars took the children by surprise and the setting is truly amazing.

The staff , the food , and the ambiance of the two establishments are polite , hard working and fulfill all requests as best as they can.

Free water, juices and soft drinks at meal times is an added bonus to the visitors.

The pool has a make shift bar and all smiles and staff there to keep social distancing rules as best as they could.

We don't eat beef as we are Sikh and they had an amazing spread at the buffet each day for the 4 days we spent there.

The game drives were amazing , however the elephants coming to the Lodge water pans were just amazing.

The pandemic safety rules were followed to the maximum and hygiene was addressed properly. Hand washing points at the dining area , electronic thermometers and all surfaces are cleaned regularly. One must wear a mask all the time, and on a lighterb note mnot when eating.

There are times like these you need to be pampered in Taita Hills at their spa, I had a deep tissue and my wife the Swedish massage from Esther and she is amazing at her job.

These two properties fit right in your budget for large and small families and gives a luxury feeling to the guests from food to friendliness of staff.

We shall be here soon and wish all the Satff and Guests a Happy New Year.

Travelling as a group of 5 adults and 4 kids to Mombasa , we chose to break our journey and refresh at the Taita Hills Resort for one night on 7 Jan and liked it well enough to spend an additional 2 nights (unplanned, mind you) on the return journey.

Solidly built, old school hotel with an arresting facade, it is deceptively big. Within walking distance off the Taveta road, it blends in perfectly with the surroudings, well camouflaged by the vines and trees.

The rooms are sufficient in size and adequately accommodated the travelling party. No TV in the rooms, but why need one when you have an excellent view of the expansive Taita countryside, plains here and hills galore there.

The staff were polite and friendly, and catered to our fairly simple needs with professionalism.

The food was of good quality, served buffet style with a decent variety of starters, mains and dessert. The control on Covid-19 regulations was admirable, with the staff doing the serving honours and wearing of masks mandatory around the serving area.

My foray to the park yielded a few sightings of Elephant, Buffalo, Monkey and the ubiquitous gazelle, and a well hidden pair of Cheetah. No lion this time round though. The park is well signposted with markers at every other point so one can self navigate pretty easily.

The hotel has a decent sized pool that was the source of untold joy for the kids... they literally spent a whole day frolicking there!

All in all, a pleasant surprise and experience and we will definitely return for another stay. Big up to all staff at the resort for their hospitality!

I was amazed by how beautiful Taita is!!
How friendly the locals were beginning with the chilled natural hibiscus juice served by Shake after a long tiresome drive that was just refreshing as Samuel, Constance (who actually called to confirm if we were still travelling) and Rachel ensured we were well settled in our rooms .
My family and I had a really good experience - a home away from home; amazing room service ensured comfortable and clean rooms by Joel's team, that is, Athanas, Matilda and Ozborne.
Great food prepared by Chef Patrick assisted by Chef Andrew and their teams led by Janet, Nicholas, John, Ruth, Dorothy and many more whose names are not offhead for now and not forgetting the poolside service by a lovely gentleman Emmanuel who was quite indulgent in allowing us to extend our swimming sessions.
How can I forget the security team who included Francis, Sikolia, Julius et al including Bett and Mercy at the gate leading to Saltlick?
I would definitely recommend this destination for people who love travelling and viewing wildlife.
All this was during the fuel crisis which prompted Chef Patrick to call upon his network of friends and ensured we had enough fuel to allow us visit Taveta and drive back home safely...Talk about the ubuntu spirit in action!!!!
All in all, we pray for a repeat trip! Baraka tele nyote

Taita hills situated with in the Tsavo east park was a good experience.
While the rooms and amenities were fairly basic, (only two pillows provided) the idea of being within the park makes it worth while.

The full boad option was a real treat with chef Fred and his team cooking up a storm and wait staff like Isaac and Fatma who were attentive, efficient and provided an excellent service.

Some things to note:

The food, while very delicious can become a bit repetitive in terms of style of cuisine and dessert options.

The game drives we found to be a bit overpriced and it’s important to keep in mind that each day of game drives require guests to pay 35$ for entry into the park and then an additional 25$ for the drive itself.

I was expecting a lot more for the drives but rather, we were taken on approximately 2 hour trips which limited us to a small portion of the park which is within what feels like a 3 km radius of the hotel. This naturally decreases the amount of game that can be observed.

The spa offered is very basic, it’s more like a massage table in an empty hotel room was incredibly expensive for the quality of the massage. The room used to do the spa treatments is also above/very close to the main entrance of the lodge and there tends to be a lot of incoming and out going vehicles either dropping off or fetching guests so it was a bit noisy and not very relaxing.

All in all it was a good experience, I would suggest if the option is available to stay at the salt lick lodge instead as this hotel is surrounded by wildlife and overlooks a popular watering hole.

The dust in the area is unavoidable. We did have an issue with our sinuses acting up and the room we were in was cleaned to a 6.5/10 which was a bit disappointing (housekeeping did rectify it once we brought it to the attention of reception)

A special thanks to:

Isaac, Noel in the bar, Osborne, Fred, fatma and Ruben.

Location:Easily accessible from Voi-Taveta main road if traveling by road. Traveling with SGR , drop at voi station and make prior arrangements with the hotel on pick up and drop off.
Rooms: Basic amenities available, tea coffee. Clean rooms , comfortable beds and bedding. Hoise keeping staff available all the time and very helpful.
Bathroom: love the concept of thr shower gel and shampoo put on easy to use bottles , I think they need to add disposable shower caps. Water temperature and force was good.
Food: good variety, love the home made ice cream and all deserts.
Views: Continous views of zebra and other wild animals from the balcony and from the grounds and swimming pool area.
Staff: very friendly and helpful.
Overall- Recomend one to visit.
Other facilities available but I had not used .

Have been to the hotel twice in 2 years and I must say that there is a great improvement in the services.

Well I have had a privilege of staying in Taita hills severally when the facility was under Sarova and in December after Sarova exited the facility in July 2020. Well the difference is quite vivid infact we were left arguing whether Sarova exited the facility due to lack of good maintenance.

The facility is due to overhaul, its old and many things are giving in due to old age. We were using 4 rooms and one of the room didn't have running water in bathroom. Even after reporting the maintenance people checked and water run for only a short while and when we called the second time the guys never showered so one team had to share the bathroom during the showere time.

I was used to thick white, clean and ironed/straightened bedsheets on the bed. the bedsheet amost everyday looked new. However this time the aging bedsheets could be seen. They were clean yes but the passage of time was visible on them and i think the ironing was not proper. Am not sure ut the bedsheet didn't feel what i was used to.

The morale of the employees was visibly quite low. Though they were trying to conceal it and i asked one why it was as such and they said they are faced with alot of uncertainty on the continuation of business. On Sarova's exit the employees were retained but now under a new employer. Anyway this is neither here nor there may be I just picked an employee who was frustrated, never know.

Ooh they have tried to maintain the good standard on food. The food is still quite good and variety is good.

The pool area needs some improvement as the pool is too small for the facility though it has been like that time immemorial. The water this time was not clear for me to see the bottom of the pool so we avoided swimming all together.

This place with the sister facility of Salt lick creates an awesome relaxation place and It will be sad if it will be run down and closed.

The Taita Hill resort feels like some of the lodges you can find in the major American National Parks. Beautifully built out of local stone, with large, comfortable rooms and beautiful gardens, this is a great place to stay when exploring Tsavo West. Unfortunately we were unable to see any lions despite repeated attempts, apparently there are very few and the sanctuary is quite large, so be warned - the probability of finding a big cat is fairly low. Other than this disappointment, we loved the resort and even though I normally don't like buffet food, this was some of the nicest I've eaten, an interesting mix of Asian and Kenyan dishes.

A nice place. We travelled as a family and all our rooms were ready on arrival. The swimming pool is superb. We had opportunity to see the animal. It was a great time in the Sanctuary. We noticed that they have an airstrip that allows light planes to drop and pick guest thus making it easy to connect with the main city of Nairobi. The connection and pick from the SGR railway station in Voi was great as we used the morning train from Mombasa. The General Manager Mr. Mwadilo was great. He always checked on us and ensure that we had splendid time. We will come again soon!

Very covid safe!! - My wife and I recently took an amazing 4-day safari, of which the 'Taita Hills Safari Resort & Spa' was a great stop-off for some amazing food, for our lunch, before then going on to its Lodge (Salt Lick) for our one night’s stay. The Salt Lick Lodge was all built up on stilts so this gave you not only a great view of the watering hole but in the morning a beautiful sunrise over a stunning view of the hills. Both the Taita & Salt Lick staff were all attentive, caring and considerate to our needs. The room was very clean and well maintained. The food was excellent. Most definitely would have no reservations in recommending this lodge & resort to our family and friends for their considered trip to Kenya and its glorious Wildlife.

Dear Guest, Good morning and trust this mail finds you well. From the chilly weather, screams and noise and the danger exposed on kids running and falling are part of the risk issues we have noted and hence the age restrictions. Our sister unit Sarova Taita Hills has no age limit and would offer a perfect option in the same sanctuary with more Child oriented activities
