How can I stop raving about the Tyl. The reviews you've been reading have been absolutely true. This was our second stay in Prague, the first at the Tyl (we stayed because of reviews on TripAdvisor) and we were not disppointed. When we had a problem (more on that later) it was immediately dealt with. It is in a Great location (right by the main tram and right by the subway - 2 minute walk) and simply a stunning hotel.

Pluses: Check in- very easy, friendly staff. Had to put 500 czech koruna down for safe deposit, but, it came right back when we left. So, it didn't cost anything.

Room: 1st room (huge, beautiful, gorgeous furniture - same ammenities as second room).
2nd room (even nicer, on courtyard, great bathrooms, bidet, wardrobe, mini bar (didn't use), sitting area - simply stunning.

FREE internet

Lovely breakfast room - although breakfast quite bland - no hot food and typically Prague (same as last year). Coffee (so-so), tea, juice, breads, meats and cheeses.

Very nice and free exercise facility.

Check-out = very easy

Front Desk - very helpful at all times. Remembered faces and rooms.

Minus (but dealt with). We stayed from 7/31 - 8/7 during the MAJOR heat wave which broke the second day (then it was actually cold). Our first room was stifling. I couldn't sleep. The room had 20 feet ceilings and the small air conditioning unit couldn't keep up. It was the worst night of sleep I've ever had away from home. It was SO HOT. We opened the window, but, it was right on the square with 24 hour trams and a noisy casino (we were on the 1st floor (which is 2nd for us Americans). The next morning, I was determined to ask for another room and they happily obligezed. In fact, we moved to a room on the courtyard, even prettier and the air conditioning worked FABULOUSLY! It was truly wonderful.

I would suggest the hotel places the shower head up - it is placed waist level and for those of us who like showers, it was a bit uncomortable.

Overall, though, we loved the Tyl and, although it doesn't have the ammenities as a 4 star, it is truly a 4-star appearance hotel.

We stayed at the hotel in January 2006 and found the hotel to be excellent value for money. The rooms were of a good size, warm and nicely furnished. The hotel itself was well presented and very clean.

Breakfast was continental style with a good selections of breads, cheeses, meats and cereals.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel is in a very good location not far from the metro station IP Pavlova, and about 10 minutes walk from wenceslas Square.

Prague is a beautiful city and I would love to visit it again - maybe in the summer when it is a bit warmer. If I do go back, I will definitely book to stay at the Hotel Tyl.

I was pretty confident heading to this hotel after reading reviews on this and other sites, and when we arrived late on 10 December, we were not disappointed! The inviting reception area was beautifully decorated with a big Christmas tree and the receptionist welcomed us warmly in perfect English.

Check-in was quick and completely painless and within minutes we were on our way up to our room on the fifth floor. The elevator was bigger than other European hotels and easily fit all of our luggage and us with still enough room to have a party.

Then we got to the room! Massive bed, beautiful furniture and a well-equipped, spacious bathroom. The room had a little sitting area off to the side with a desk and a table and chairs that looked to be genuine antiques (although I'm no expert and admit I forgot to ask!).

I think I read on here before that the breakfast was 'just' cold meats and bread and ran out after they were there for an hour! Firstly, if you are eating breakfast for an hour, you are eating for too long!

The breakfast here was ample - a selection of cold meats, fresh bread rolls, pastries, cheeses, juices and, of course, tea and coffee. Absolutely heaps to keep you going until lunch.

The location was perfect within a pretty easy walk to a lot of attractions, but if it's as cold as it was when we were there, the very easy to use Metro was literally steps away and very easy to use. Trams were also very frequent and steps away.

Prague is a beautiful city, and while we were only there for four nights, the Hotel Tyl made our stay the more enjoyable and we are thankful for that! European hotels are often hit and miss and this was definitely a hit!

Myself and my partner stayed at Tyl from 20-23 Feb. Room wasn't ready so Jan the receptionist let us keep our case behind desk until our room was cleaned. I'd like to commend Jan for recommending a very good nearby pub (Deminka) and his friendly and helpful manner with all the questions we threw at him. I'll try and break down individual areas which may be useful:

ROOM (202): Fairly basic but has everything you need for a city break as we only used it as a base to sleep. Flat screen TV and mini bar. Bathroom was fully tiled, Had a shower cubicle, Heated towel rail and bidet. Room was to front of hotel and overlooked street, Heard no noise from pubs or transport.

HOTEL: Plush reception area with lounge sporting large flat screen TV near bar. Bar not always manned but just ask receptionist and they will sort you out a drink. Downstairs has the gym and sauna area although we did not use these as unfortunately the jacuzzi was undergoing maintenance.

BREAKFAST: Although not a massive choice like one would expect from a big all inclusive resort(Bear in mind this is a small city hotel), There was plenty to choose from to suit all tastes. Had hot meat (Either bacon or sausage), scrambled eggs, Vegetables, Boiled eggs, cold meats, cheeses, yoghurts, Bread and cereal. Both our breakfasts were delicious.

AREA: Busy streets with quite a bit of hustle and bustle, plenty of mini markets and tobacconists and more pubs and restaurants than you can shake a stick at, All within ten minute walk.

TRANSPORT: Main transport terminus I.P Pavlova is 5 minute walk where you can catch the tram or subway. Easy to get to and from airport for only around £1 per person, We did this both ways and not only did we save about £40 in taxi's it was also quite a pleasnat journey.

PRICE: Excellent value for money, For price paid was very happy.

I have just returned from a 5 day stay in Prague at the Hotel Tyl. Before I went I quite nervous about finding the hotel, once I arrived, however it was fairly straightforward. Once you arrive at the airport, you need to follow the exit signs (obviously), from there, there will be signs directing you to the buses, here you will see machines that will allow you to buy your ticket, it costs 20Kc (about 56p) for a ticket that you can use for 75mins, on the tram, metro or bus, from the time you validate the ticket. You have to take the 119 bus to Dejvicka, when you get off the, across the road is the metro. The metro can be quite confusing, you need to get on Line A, and get off at the stop Muzeum, from here you need to catch Line C, and get off at I.P Pavlova.

*HINT
When using the metro, there are signs stating the stops along the line, to help you decide which side to get on the train.
For example: I am at I.P Pavlova stop, but I want to go to Florenc, on Line C, the sign will look something like this

*Haje.....I.P PAVLOVA......Florenc.....Vlatavska....Ladvi*

Obviously there will be 2 trains, that will have end destinations of either Haje or Ladvi, so because I wan to go to Florenc, which is after I.P Pavlova, but before Ladvi, i must get on the train on the side that lists ladvi as the last stop.

I know this might sound simple, but its not! I got on the train on the wrong side, and ended up in the middle of nowhere!

Anyway, after you arrive at the I.P Pavlova stop, keep a look out for KFC, which is on a corner, the Hotel is about 3 buildings along.

The Hotel itself, is quite small, but very nice. I was greeted by a memeber of the Hotel staff, who was extremely friendly, as were all the staff, and they were more than willing to help. The hotel has 2 lifts, which makes it easier to take your luggage to your room, especially when you have packed what feels like your whole bedroom! The only complaints I can make about the Hotel, concerns the room I was given. I was on the top floor, and therefore in the loft, this meant that i had a loft window, and being only 5"4, I had no clue what was going on in the outside world, it was quite claustrophobic. So if you are given a room on the top floor, ask to be moved else you will feel imprisoned!

Apart from this, the room was fine, the air conditioning worked, and made the room comfortable, and the bathroom was quite big, with a good shower. The beds were made everyday and fresh towels were left. Breakfast was your typical european breakfast, cheese, meat, weird looking bread... however it wasn't my ideal breakfast.

The Hotel is in a good location, is is within easy walking distance of Wenceslas Square (approx 10 mins), and the Metro and Tram are right next to the Hotel.

I would not recommend going on the tours that the Hotel tell you about, I went on a tour to gain some background info of the city and sites, however the guide simply gave the names of the sites and did not elaborate, so I was still as clusless as I had been. He also took us upto the castle, and gave the fastest history lesson I have ever had, needless to say my legs were killing me the next day.

I would recommend getting yourself upto the castle, and using the audioguide. Which was easy to use and much more informative than the previous tour guide, and it was reasonably priced. The St. Vitus catherdral was absolutely stunning, and a great photo op.

I also visited Josefov, the Jewish Museum, where I also used the audio guide, however I would not recommend using it, as it was not very well organised, and I often got abit confused with what was being described and what I was actually supposed to be looking at. You are better of, just readind the information that the Museum provide. The Museum is very interesting, especially the Spanish Synogogue.

The Old town Square is definately a place to go, as there is a big atmosphere amongst the tourists and the locals. It is also an opportunity to visit St Nicholas's Church, which is incredible both inside and out. However you are not able to take photos inside the church, a few people tried and got told off like school children, and they looked extremely embarrassed!

WORD OF WARNING: WATCH YOUR BAG WHEN USING TRANSPORT. I unfortunately had about £30 taken from my purse whilst travelling on the metro back to the airport. About 6 men jumped on the train just as it was just about to leave. They pushed and squashed me, and a woman tapped me on the shoulder to tell me to mind her bump (she was pregnant...or not)
and then this woman and those men got off at the next stop. I dont know whether I am a cynic but I think the pregnant woman was part of the ploy. Fortunately someone told me that my purse had been dropped on the floor, they had not taken my driving license or my bank cards, and they had not found the rest of my money that I had kept seperate. I would advise that you do not carry your money together, and to keep a very close eye on your bag!

Overall I had a brilliant time in Prague, and I would recommend Prague and this hotel to anyone.

I booked this hotel purely through chance! I had read the trip advisor reviews and thought I'd take a chance!
We were definately not disappointed, the hotel is immaculately clean and has been recently refurbished. Bathrooms were spotless, with 3 fresh towls each day. You do need to request showers in the bathroom instead of bath only. Although the showers were powerful, I still wonder why they were only half way up the wall!!
The superior rooms were large and well decorated, and also had a table and two comfortable chairs.

The hotel has a lovely reception area, and lobby bar. The breakfasts were filling enough with lovely breads and cheeses although I would have loved some toast!

The hotel is about 15 minutes stroll from the centre of things, this was a benefit as it allowed us to see more on the way! Prague is beautiful, the Charles bridge is amazing, especially with the view from the river cruise.

Be very careful of taxi drivers who seem to think of a number and then treble it for your fare!!! As this was a special birthday treat, I had booked a limo with champagne with a company called prague-airport-transfers....I have to say they were amazing, so if you need a taxi call them, or if you are down town use a reputable taxi firm like AAA who will not rip you off!

Overall we had a great stay, the staff were absolutely fantastic, we were only there for 4 days, yet we got to know the staff so well.

If you do not mind the short walk, then this is a lovely quiet hotel in an area where the food and drinks are so much cheaper than in the centre of town!!!

This hotel is a the perfect location for a short break in Prague, only 5 - 10 mins walk away from Wenceslas Square and a tram ride away from the castle, you can be at all the sights within minutes but can beat a retreat to traffic free streets at night. The breakfast was a cold buffet but with plenty to choose from and set you up for for the day. Helpful reception staff and a spotless room added to the great service. There are a number of bars and restaurants within easy reach of the hotel if you don't want to mix with the volume of tourists in the evening - must try the local Czech restaurant (can't recall it's name - the drunken soldier??) with it's wonderfully home cooked fare and oompah band to entertain!
