We booked this hotel for the facilities and the fact that it was out of the main tourist bit of Prague.
But when we got there we were disappointed to hear that they'd double booked and were moving us up to their sister hotel, the Green Lobster beside the castle, which, when we got there, wasn't what we were wanting at all.
So we got moved back down to Tyl the day after.
Once we finally got settled there, it was great.
Really clean, spacious rooms. Comfy beds. And a window that overlooked a small grassy park to the front of the hotel.
Even though it was beside a tram stop, we had no issues with noise the whole stay (we were there for 5 nights).

The breakfast was good, with plenty of choice for every taste, and enough to keep you going until lunchtime. Hot and cold options were available.

And it was fab to be able to go into the jaccuzzi to chill out after a day of walking around the town. Great for soothing tired feet!
We would of used the gym, but were so tired by the time we got back that it was a case of doing as little as possible!

We also liked that the hotel was out of the main tourist trap. And therefor restaurants weren't as expensive there as they were in town.
We were recommended Matilda's , on the same square as the hotel, and it was fantastic food, and even the wine wasn't overpriced!!
So thumbs up to that one!
And there is also a small pizza place around the corner from there that we went to, which was also cheap, and nice, although Matilda's had a bit more atmosphere.

We also found the transport links that this was close to (the Metro, and tram stops) very easy to use. Although, BE WARNED they have no empathy for tourists! We were stopped by the ticket inspector to check our tickets on the Metro, and both were fined 700 koruny (about £25) for not having stamped our tickets properly!

Getting to / from the airport was also easy, bus (119) from the airport to the Metro line - you can only go one way on the line - then get off at the Muesum and change lines to go to IP Pavlova. And when you get there take the first exit from the station on your right and then the hotel is pretty much second st on the left.
Easy!

Overall, we were really happy with our stay at the Tyl. Staff are fantasticlly friendly and helpful, and easy access to all transport links. Only ten mins walk to Wencless Sq, and about twenty mins to the bridge.
I would definately come back here again! :-)

September 26, 2007. Tourist/business traveler-United States. We stayed at the Hotel Tyl because of other positive reviews in trip advisor and personal communications with the hotel by email. As promised by the staff, they arranged for airport pickup and we had a kind gentleman waiting for us at the airport with our name on a sign. When we first approached the front door of the hotel, we stood at the door for a few seconds wondering how to get the sliding door to open. A receptionist finally noticed us and pushed a button at her desk to let us in. Usual checkin and we were given a metal key on a key ring to the room - only one. More on that later but we were asked to turn the key in to the front desk whenever we left the hotel for any period of time. The room was very cute, adequate size, bed was just ok. The room had a safe that was only large enough to hold maybe a small purse but too small for a laptop, for example. You had to ask for a separate key for that and pay a deposit. The shower (really bath) tub was so high it was precarious getting in. We wondered how elderly people managed. The shower head was on a removable clip down around your knee and had to be held in one hand over your head since there was nowhere to attach at that height. The water would become scalding hot with a 1/8 mm turn of the handle. Be careful. Otherwise the bathroom was very small. The view out of the window looked on to a rather ugly, run down building across a courtyard. Not a pretty site. The location of the hotel is alright but right next to a KFC that is usually very crowded. Once, when I returned to the hotel after attending the first day of a seminar I was there to attend (I also went as a tourist), I again had to wait at the door until I noticed a buzzer, which I pushed. The receptionist showed up from the back bar-lounge, opened the door and just stood there blocking my entrance. I told her I was staying there and she asked for my key. I explained that my wife was still in the room and she had the only key. (Remember, they only gave us one key.) She didn't say a word and merely stepped to the side to let me by. This treatment and the fact that you have to buzz to get in makes me wonder about security. On another day, I got in following someone else who had hit the buzzer before me, walked up to the receptionist that had never seen me before, asked for the key to my room number, and was given the key without question or verification. I noticed later that one person acts as door guard, receptionist, and lounge-bar attendee and drink mixer all at the time. Is the hotel too cheap to hire more people? One of my biggest peeves is no internet in the room. The only access to the internet is via an old computer in the lounge-bar that usually stinks of cigarette smoke. You also have to wait to use it if someone else is on it. Not very convenient for business travelers/tourists that need access to the internet. When I complained to the receptionist-door guard-bar maid the following morning she suggested I talk to her "colleague" upon his arrival. When he arrived, I explained my need for internet access and said that a simple wireless router would allow more than one person to access the internet at a time. He looked at me rather confused and said that they didn't have a wireless router. (No kidding..) I replied that they could buy one for very little at a computer store around the corner. He again stared at me and said "thank you for your suggestion", translated in my mind to "too bad if you don't like it". I decided right then and there to change hotels. The next day, after only two days of an expected four night stay, I checked out. When asked why I was checking out early, I explained the insufficiency of single internet access in a smoke filled lounge and the lack of interest in updating their meager service to a wireless router. She just shrugged her shoulders. She did not offer to have me talk with management, she did not apologize, she did not say anything and only shrugged her shoulders. She did not offer to call us a cab either. Oh, and last but not least, the breakfast was lame and the milk was warm.

I would not recommend staying at this hotel if for no other reason than their bad attitude.

This is one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed at and probably the cheapest price wise! The location was ideal and a tram stop is just outside. The hotel had everything you could ask for and the rooms were lovely, with a king sized bed and a spotless shower. I am very fussy where staying in hotels is concerned but I would have no hesitation in recommending this one.

We stayed in this fab hotel last December. I'd booked the break as a surprise for my boyfriends birthday and we had a fabulous time! The hotel is great, have no worries whatsoever about booking to stay there, in fact Id go so far as to say don't visit Prague without staying there! The bedrooms are spacious and the decor is lovely, and at a fabulous price! Breakfast is what you'd expect; cereal, fruit, pastries etc. Getting to the hotel is not a problem; we got the bus from the airport and then the metro to Pavlova and then the hotel is just around the corner. However, it was quite late when we got there and didnt have change so were a bit scared about the metro tickets. Don't worry though, I don't think the ticket collectors are very regular! Location of the hotel is perfect, only about 15mins walk to Wenceslas square. This means its not too noisey or busy round about. There are restaurants on streets nearby and we enjoyed all our meals.
All in all a fab hotel in a fab city, can't wait to go back this Christmas! Already booked!

I chose the Hotel Tyl for my first trip to Prague on the basis of the positive reviews at Tripadvisor and was not disappointed. The hotel is new and very clean and the staff was helpful and friendly (especially the super-pleasant Italian night manager). My room was large and nicely furnished, with an entry hall, a big bathroom, plenty of storage space for clothes (armoire and four-drawer dresser), a sitting area with a table and desk, a mini-fridge, and a window that looked out on the courtyard. The bathroom was especially nice -- a very deep bathtub, all new fixtures, tile, lots of hot water and towels. BRING YOUR OWN BATHSOAP. (Apparently it's common in Prague hotels not to provide it.) The breakfast was ample and varied and served in a pleasant room in the lower level. There was a computer with internet access in the lounge. The hotel is very conveniently located, right by the IP Pavlova Metro station and a major tram stop, and also within easy walking distance of Wenceslas Square and Karlova Square. There's a tobacconist around the corner, where you can buy transportation passes and phone cards (my U.S. phone cards did not work despite assurances from the company before I left), and a mini-market and an international foods store on another corner. The transportation system can't be beat, very clean and modern, with a train or tram or bus coming by (it seemed) every couple of minutes. I used it extensively and exclusively, including from and to the airport, on a three-day pass that cost less than $10.00. Take the No. 22 tram for a free tour of the New Town, Old Town, Little Quarter and Castle District. I recommend a trip to the Zoo, easily accessed by train and bus, which had a particularly strong avian collection. And don't miss the Fair Trades Palace, also easily accessed-- a huge, beautiful art museum where I swear I was the ONLY patron. I brought two guide books with me to Prague but found the ROUGH GUIDE by far the most helpful, well-written and organized and chock-full of Czech history. Lovely city, but I was shocked by the amount of graffiti everywhere! It seems to be a plague throughout Europe.

4 of us stayed at the Tyl from 26th -30th March and thoroughly recommend it. Everything said in previous reviews was true- delightful staff, very good rooms and excellent location for trams to Old Town and Castle etc. My friend told the receptionist that their mattress was a bit lumpy and when we got back from a day's sight seeing it had been changed. What service! I stay in many hotels across the UK and Europe and this is one of the best I have been to in terms of comfort, service and value for money.

We stayed at the Hotel Tyl last weekend for three nights. The hotel was clean and friendly, the room was very spacious with an excellent bathroom. There were only two things that let it down.

The first was the breakfast in the morning. It was croissants, fruit and cereal. And when these ran out after about 1 hour, there was no more, and you had to eat what was left. There were no sausages, or bacon. Everyone goes for the orange juice as well because that runs out quite fast.

The second was the Jacuzzi. The water stunk! It was so bad it was making us heave, then the receptionist said that it hadn’t been cleaned out, so were a bit miffed that they let us in the first place.
The hotel was easy to reach from the airport. Outside the airport, get the bus 119, and get of at the end of the line. Get the tube to the Museum, get off and get on the next tube for one stop and you are there.

To get into the centre of town and to the Charles Bridge etc... Get the 22 tram, which you can catch from the left of the hotel, outside KFC.

It is very cheap, and what myself and my boyfriend did was take a pocket calculator and worked out how much me were spending, converting it into English money. For cheap drinks it is best to go to pubs down the side roads, our cheapest pint we bought was 51p (24c). We took £300 spending money for the two of us, and came back with £100!

It is definatley a good trip, and i would def go back in the future.

We visited this splendid hotel in early July as part of a 3 day flying visit to the Czech capital. Some strong recommendations from TripAdvisor clients drew me to the booking as well as a very acceptable offer of a third night free c/o a holiday booking agency. We were not disappointed. This is a highly atractive hotel, recently restored to its 19th Century ambience and conveniently situated in an attractive square, a short tram ride from the city centre. Staff are friendly and always on the lookout to ensure you maximise your available time. Breakfast buffets are attractively served and should satisfy people of different or discerning tastes. The Hotel looks and feels new with a particular cleanliness you feel and notice from the onset. There is also a small fitness centre, a sauna (small charge) and free internet access, so you can check your emails and let friends know what they are missing. Prague is a very compact city and best explored on foot as more parts become increasingly traffic free. However, the trams and the metros still rule and are within 100 metres of the Tyl entrance. The 3 day pass is as cheap and easy to use as anywhere I've seen in Europe and is ideal for getting to and from the airport using the 119 bus. No evening meals at the Tyl but restaurants galore within a short walk. All in all, a place for all age-groups and clearly one to return to.

Stayed in the hotel from 3/3 to 5/3. The weather was quite cold in Pargue that weekend and luckily the hotel is very close to a metro station and we did not need to walk that far.
The room is big but clean and neat.
The only thing, the room TV doesnt have any english language channel (except for a mute CNN channel).
All in all, quite happy with my stay and may come again in the future.
