Dom Muzyka

Not much choice. Food was not that tasty but filled a hole. Coffee was not brilliant but it was wet and warm.

We stayed three nights at Dom Muzyka and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is part of a lovely historic 19th century building which is now part of the music academy. Our room (421) was the top floor of one of the square towers and had lots of windows on two sides so was very light and airy. It was also very quiet with no noise from inside the hotel, and as long as we kept the side windows shut there was no noise from the nearby main road even with the front windows open all night. The double bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. The bathroom was adequate but dated (particularly the shower) - an the shower head would not stay up so showering was a bit difficult, we asked if they could fix it but nobody did anything to our knowledge as it was exactly the same for the rest of the stay. There was a table and chairs, fridge, kettle, coffee and tea (paper cups only and no milk), bottled water, plenty of sockets and good wifi. Due to Covid you have to request a room clean/towel change at reception. The staff were pleasant and helpful but not particularly friendly or chatty. As others have mentioned, there was no buffet breakfast due to Covid, instead you have a choice of 3 set menus which have to be ordered by 9pm the night before with the time you want to eat (starting at 7am). The food was good (the hot food was cooked after we sat down so completely fresh) but the set menu will not be to everyone’s taste, but they are doing their best and it was included in our booking so no complaints from us! The hotel was ideally situated for our needs - it was right next to the main road so very easy to find (and well signposted) and convenient for arriving/departing. It was also only 8 minutes walk to the Old Town which was great, and 4 minutes to a well-stocked supermarket. Secured parking in front of the hotel was free (keep your car park ticket and get it validated at reception before leaving) but spaces were limited at times. Overall very good value for a hotel with free parking so close to the Old Town.

The Dom Muzyka is an interesting hotel within the grounds of a music academy. The Academy and hotel are within a restored historic building, once army barracks, and in a slightly out of centre location but within easy walking distance of the historic city centre. Our room was large, airy and bright with a modern en suite shower room. The buffet breakfast (included in the price) was good and plentiful with Polish and continental dishes.
From the hotel it is a 15 minute walk to the city centre, which is filled with historic and restored buildings. Another 15 minute walk from the centre will reach the railway and bus stations for easy connections to the airport and to the wider region.
Staff were very friendly.
A great base to explore a fascinating city.

staff were accommodating & very helpful and spoke very good english. room was much bigger than we expected which was nice and had nice natural light, and a huge , super comfy bed! everything was really clean, definitely recommend :-) despite the freezing temperature outside we never got cold in the room throughout the night. location was great as there's plenty of scooters outside the hotel that take less than 10 minutes to zoom into town on (which were also very cheap)

I had a pleasant stay at this hotel and would rate it between average and very good.
+ Interesting location in the Academy of Music building,
+ Close to the old town, public transportation (tram n. 8, 9) and in walking distance to the train stations,
+ Kind and helpful staff at the reception desk and in the restaurant,
+ Good breakfast (32,00 PLN),
+ Clean.
- My room was little bit tiny,
- Noisy when the window is open (road, trams),
- The biggest disadvatnage of this accommodation was that there is no cleaning service during your stay (only upon request) what is quite unusual for a three star hotel... I would recommend to clean and desinficate rooms without requesting it!

A lovely hotel with a bit of history not far from the old town. It used to be an army barracks and them a music academy. The hotel was clean and quiet and the rooms a decent size. Breakfast was a decent continental choice with eggs cooked to order. Our room was on the upper floor and the only windows were skylights so you needed a pole, pardon the pun, if you wanted to close the window blinds.

The hotel is very close to the centre, just 10 minutes by walk. We stayed in the hotel 3 nights, got the rooms on the last floor, under the roof.
These days was so hot and there is no AC, just a fan. The room was directly to the main road and with open windows little bit noisy in the evening and early morning because of traffic.
The very important for me was a big parking free for the guests. The breakfast was nice, quite big choise and lunch in the hotel restaurant was very tasty. The staff was nice. All the complex is surrounded by the wall. I can recommend this hotel.

Thank you for your opinion. We are glad that you appreciated our convenient location, free parking, breakfast and staff. We are sorry that the proximity to the street and fourth floor was inconvenient for you. We do believe that cooling fans located in the room helps on our Guests on hot summer days. We hope you will have good memories of Gdańsk.

Nice hotel, only 5-10 minute walk from centre. Breakfast (7-11am) really nice with buffet to cater for everyone including fresh omelette. Check in easy, checking out tomorrow (13th April). Room was nice, en suite. Very quiet in evenings, occasional smell of smoking in corridor. The hotel is in a residential area with secure perimeter. Hotel and area very clean to usual Polish standard.
The main issue really was trying to get fresh towels and linen changed as I stayed for a week. Cleaners were very rude, some days no housekeeping at all? Ordered to leave room today prior to cleaning at 0930hrs!! It would actually put me off staying again. I complained to reception.
Another bizarre moment was when 'reception asked me who my guest was at breakfast'? What? I'm a solo traveller on a history tour. Probably the invisible man?

Thank you for taking time to write this opinion. We are glad that you appreciated our room, breakfast and location. We do apologize for the situation with housekeeping staff. Since most of our Guests give positive feedback about this service, your opinion worried us a lot. We hope despite some inconvenience you will have positive memories of Gdańsk.

Good value hotel that is a short walk to the old town and river areas with all the key atttactions and restaurants. The hotel is located in a large site with a big car park and music college.

The hotel has an older feel overall but is very clean and tidy and has good facilities. The room I had was a single on the top floor so had sky lights and a small window. The long room had a comfy single bed. The bathroom was modern and was a good size. Nice window view to the main road and bridge. Powerful shower was nice. My room had no air con but other rooms did. Seemed ok with the big fan it had. No room safe but these are available in the reception area for a daily charge. Worked ok.

Breakfast room was a good size and pleasant area to sit. Good continental options plus omelettes or scrambled eggs made to order. Nice yoghurts. Orange juice very weak though. Outside is an area to have a drink and sit in deck chairs during the day.

Staff excellent and very helpful. Very good English spoken.

I have been to the Dom Muzyka hotel many times and my opinion of it only gets better. I only fear that by giving it the good review that it deserves will make it more difficult to get a room at a great price! Here are the main reasons I keep going back to this hotel:

Location:
It is "hidden" away, a short pleasant walk from the main street (Dluga St) of Old Town Gdansk. It is in a quiet location, especially if you get a room facing the courtyard. There is a road on the other side of the hotel, but if you close the windows, the traffic noise is reduced. Occasionally if you are outside the hotel you will hear some nice violin and piano music coming from the music school nearby. It has a gated entrance. There is a market a block away. There is a tram and bus stop also within a block (in the other direction) that can give you access to all of Gdansk.

Hotel Condition/Room Description:
It is almost new. I would not call it fancy or extravagant, but it always clean and well kept. There are 4 carpeted floors and a modern elevator or nice staircase with artwork, whichever one prefers. The rooms are always clean and tidy. They are basic, average size, and have what you need for a nice quiet stay. Individually controlled air conditioning/heat. Bathrooms with shower stall and hot drying rack. Television and radio. Closet and desk. Beds are twins that are pushed together for two people. There is no stocked mini bar. But go to the local market and bring your own water, drinks and snacks to the room; it's more inexpensive anyway :)

Staff/Amenities/Cost:
The hotel staff are always courteous and helpful. They speak at least 3 languages that I am aware of: Polish, English, and German. A buffet style breakfast is included in the cost of your room. In nice weather, you may enjoy a pleasant breakfast at an outdoor table in the courtyard. There are meeting rooms if needed. The cost of rooms is inexpensive, especially out of season and less on weekends.

Room for Improvement:
Very few hotels are perfect and this hotel is no exception, but then you are not paying for one either. But here is a short list of wishes:

Provide rooms with real queen size or king size beds. The twins pushed together are ok, but the gap in the middle can be annoying at times. Provide one big cover quilt in double rooms instead of individual smallish quilts.

If some rooms could be fitted with bathtubs it would be nice.
DVD/CD player with movies would also be nice. TV channel selection is limited. There is no mini-bar and I dont believe it is necessary, but complimentary bottled water would be nice, so you dont have to go to the market or call room service.

Conclusion:
Great location, pleasant and inexpensive accommodations. I would call this a 3 star hotel, and would stay here everytime rather than some of the more expensive "name" hotels elsewhere.

What is the best way to get from the airport to Dom Muzyka hotel.
Answer from AkademiaMuzyczna
Gdansk, Poland1 helpful vote
Please find below information about the transport: Bus from the airport number 210 will take you to Gdansk Main Railway Station. From there please take tram no 3 or 8 or 9 – direction Stogi (Plaza) and get off at stop called Akademia Muzyczna – our hotel is in the building of this Academy (yellow brick building on the corner). Tickets – bus around 5 PLN/person, tram around 4 PLN/person, you buy them from the driver (change needed) or in the ticket machine (you will find one outside the airport, near the bus stop). Taxi should cost you no more than 80 PLN – if you decide to take taxi to Dom Muzyka, however you should check the price with the driver as you get in. If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to your stay!

Yes, I'd expect that you could check in during the early hour, but it would be a good idea to confirm with the hotel.
