Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We've just finished a four night stay in this historic hotel in Tallinn old town centre. It's just a stones throw from the town square, with all it's restaurants and bars, yet solid medieval engineering means it's quiet and peaceful inside. The management, Jonathon and Jason, could not have been more helpful. The recommendations on where to visit, dine and drink were superb, garnered from many years as expats in the town. My wife could not be more impressed with the breakfast, great continental and any requests all cooked to order. Clean, tidy, friendly and a comfy bed, what more could you want. We'll be back.

The hotel is situated in the heart of the old town, within walking distance of all the historic sites of the city and only 15minutes to the Train Station, Harbour and Telliskivi new town. Jonathan the owner has a great knowledge of the city, culture and country as a whole and helped arrange a road trip as well as numerous foody restaurant recommendations. The hotel itself is historically beautiful with a great breakfast, shop and sauna, would highly recommend as your home away from home for your visit to Tallinn and maybe the rest of Estonia!

We stayed in this great place for a night. The hotel is located in the heart of the old town. The staff was simply amazing! Jay paid special attention to a small child who was traveling with us. The hotel itself was great and there’s nothing to complain about. There’s also a great little shop downstairs of the hotel. I recommend staying here if you want a short getaway in Tallinn!

Only steps away from the main square, super clean rooms. Comfy bed. Large bathroom. Wonderful courtyard with lots of seating, twinkle lights and blankets for those chilly evenings.

Breakfast was included and you could custom make your own. Lots to choose from as much as you like. I personally loved the crispy sweet bacon and crepes. Yum!!

Johnathon (the manager) and his staff were super helpful and attentive. Everything from tips on where to go, what to eat and even to sending our postcards. Thanks everyone!

If you like to stay where you are treated warmly and like family, you've found it.

Perfect location in the heart of the old town. Wonderful building with many original features. Each bedroom is unique; our bedroom was superb; providing a very comfortable area to relax in after sight seeing. Jonathan was a very welcoming host. His recommendations of restaurants and places to see were spot on. He was always there to help and advise and went the extra mile to make our 4 night stay thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recommended

My wife and I were walking through Old Town Tallinn looking for a local beer when we saw two guys standing outside of a closed beer house sipping a pint. I asked where they got the beer and one said right there at The Merchant House. His name is Jonathan and he owns the place. He spent years living in and studying Russia and the region as a young man. He took the time to sit with us and tell us about the history of Tallinn, Old Town and how the region was during Russia's influence and how it has thrived since obtaining independence and sovereignty. He drew directions on our map to Tallinn's oldest pub, Hell Hunt, a place to get a homemade snack and pickle at Draakon as well as directions to the areas largest tap house outside of the Old Town section. The time he spent with us really meant a lot and we will definitely stay there when we make our way back. Great place and better people.

The hotel has a great location; within Tallinn’s Old Town and a matter of seconds’ walk from Town Hall Square. The staff, in particular Jonathan, were very friendly and helpful, providing invaluable advice and tips about things to do in Tallinn, places to eat and drink and getting around. A recommended hotel!

Amazing small, historical hotel right in the heart of Tallin.
The host and his team were brilliant, so attentive and helpful with suggested things to do. Our room was large and lovely and warm considering it was -18 outside.
The breakfast was plentiful and varied and the daily private use of the sauna was a welcome addition after a day out in the cold. The sauna was included in the price and definitely worth using.

This hotel is amazing! It is ideally located in the old town, in a historical building.
Jonathan, the owner, was great. He was extremely friendly and thoughtful and basically made our whole trip. He would sit with us at breakfast and help us organize our trip and gave us lots of recommendations. Initially, we were going to take the ferry to Helsinki but Jonathan recommended to go to Saaremaa instead which was amazing.
He gave us great restaurant recommendations and even made bookings for us.
The hotel has a sauna, which was great to use after a long day out in the city.
The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. We stayed in 2 different ones and both were great! The second one had a bathtub in the room which was lovely.
Definitely recommend to stay in this hotel in Tallinn!

If you are looking for a great location, friendly staff, a comfortable room, and an affordable price, look no further. This place has it all! We were literally steps from the main square in the old city. The recommendations of the staff for restaurants and activities were all delicious or delightful and they allowed us to store our luggage the day we left. Can't say enough good about it.

No not that I know of. The Hotel is down from the town square. The best viewing of the town square is from up in the town hall from the viewing platform in the roof

How far away is the airport and what cost would a taxi be?
Answer from jend184
Greater London, United Kingdom5 contributions8 helpful votes
It cost us 10e from the airport to the hotel and 7e from the hotel to the airport! Note that the taxis can't drop you off outside the hotel after 10.00 am due to town centre parking controls, so you have to carry your case down the cobbled road to the hotel entrance . It isn't far; about a 3 minute walk.
