Positive:
Luxury hotel in a heart of Riga old town. Very spacious and clean rooms. Nice winter decorations in the lobby area. Very friendly staff.
Negative:
Could be much more better service at the breakfast time.
It is difficult to use spa area with kids (8 y.o). It is allowed only until 3 p.m.

Just enjoyed a four night stay ,booked via Secret Escapes. A 30 minute limo transfer got us smoothly from the airport to this delightful hotel. It looked magical with all the Christmas Lights which stayed up until the 8th January.
I booked it as I had enjoyed a stay at the Atlantic Kempinski in Hamburg and was not disappointed. The location is second to none . Adjacent to the National Opera House, on the edge of the Old town and a very short walk to the central market.
A lovely welcome by all reception staff and the concierge , warm towels , Prosecco , a map of the area etc. The staff were excellent through out the hotel .
Breakfast was very nice , a good selection , we didn’t try anything off the menu as there was so much choice from the hot and cold buffet (including sparkling wine if you fancy a Buck’s Fizz ).
We ate in the restaurant and it was excellent . €150 got me an excellent and quite large crab salad starter, lobster pasta, raspberry sorbet and a nice glass of Bollinger. My husband had Bouillabaisse , Sturgeon and a Salted Caramel dessert. All very good , with some nice touches, an Amuse Bouche from the chef , of black sausage, egg and caviar and some lovely artisan breads. We would have eaten there again but there were so many places to eat and so little time .

Constructive criticism would be to get rid of the musak. Proper music or none at all would be much preferable. I also would have liked a chest of drawers in the room . There is ample wardrobe space but no drawers . I wasn’t a fan of the coffee machine and would prefer a kettle and some milk, however I’m sure they would have brought milk if I had asked .
These things in no way detracted from our stay , but I include them as the Kempinski strives to delight the customer and therefore customer feedback is vital.

I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, or to recommend it to anyone and would love to return to Riga and this Grand Hotel.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. The design of the hotel was created based on the concept and traditions of the brand, as well as the historical integrity and individuality of the building. The team is indeed very intuitive and works hard to ensure a personal service is delivered to every guest. It is the best reward for the hotel and our team to get positive feedback and realize that we have reached your expectations and created beautiful memories. Your comments are taken into consideration. we have forwarded your great words to restaurant team as well. We hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to our hotel during your next trip to Riga. Best regards, Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga

Travelled with family of three 10 something boys and the Mrs. The hotel was featured in Luxury magazine so we thought it had to be good. Best deal was on Booking.com not on Hotel's website as it claimed.
Arrival and checkin was smooth rooms were good sized but only down side was that they were at each end of the building so lots of running between rooms. Closer rooms were available but at an extra cost.
We stayed for three nights, location is superbly central in old town of Riga, friendly staff all around doesn't matter where you are in the Hotel. Conceirge is well experienced and informative although they had directed us to a Sushi Planet restaurant which was long closed but given it was a short walk it was not a problem.
The breakfast is served in a 5* hotel manner with menu on each table and no a la carte just the buffet. Food quality was good but not exceptional and the choice was reasonable again not exceptional.
Room amenities were good, full range provided, incidentals such as dental kit was of good quality.
Pool is great but does look bigger in pictures. Kids can only be there with restricted timing. Spa facilities were actually very good, heated stone beds by the pool, three sauna rooms with cold showers etc was excellent. Spa staff were great and very tentative at provision of services such as slippers towels etc.
Worth staying if you are in the area or can hop on a short trip over. Mind that carbon footprint but otherwise very good experience.

This is, of course, a luxury property located conveniently across the Latvian National opera. The opera view rooms are very large, equipped with high quality furniture and amenities. Perfectly clean everywhere. They serve a good à la carte breakfast, but their buffet is mediocre. The SPA is one of the best that I have seen. Absolutely tranquil and recharging.

This hotel is an exceptional experianse. Great staff and a beutiful room with a view of the opera and park. (Junior suite) The children got popcorn, Coca-cola and movie, and hot chocholate brought to our room every night before bedtime. All free of charge. The room was luxuriously furnished, the bed was just as soft as one could want, after walking the streets of the old town for hours. The bathroom had separate rooms for shower, toilet and bathtub. The only thing I could wish for, as a family of four, was an extra sink. Toiletarticles was high quality, and the towels and bathrobes were thick and soft. The children even got child-sized robes and slippers. We asked for some extra blankets, because the children in the sofa-bed did not want to share.

The pool and spa was fantastic, and Inga gave a great massage! The entre family had a blast swimming and enjoying the water!

The breakfast was delicious, both ordering from the menu, and the buffet. We did not try the restaurants for lunch or dinner.

All and all, a fantastic weekend!

If you would like to be treated as royalty, do visit the Kempinski Grand hotel in Riga. We higly recomend a stay here!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights during our anniversary trip in Europe. I informed the hotel prior to our arrival that it was our anniversary and to my pleasure they had a welcome plate of desserts waiting in our room. Upon arrival we were greeted with warm towels and a cocktail. We were personally escorted to our rooms and were impressed with the overall ambiance and quality of the room and furnishings. Every small detail is thought of in the room. A special detail is the different levels of lighting. The breakfast is worth every accolade possible! I cannot stress enough what a treat it is to be a guest at this hotel. The city of Riga is crown and the Kempinski is a Jewel. I will travel back to Riga only to stay at this property again.

Elegant hotel in Riga's Old Town, classical and luxurious on the inside. The views from the Opera room and rooftop restaurant Stage 22 were fantastic. The room was large, very comfortable, and I loved the bed, pillows, and sofa. The trained hotel staff was very polite, attentive and made sure my stay was perfect before and during my visit. The breakfast at Amber restaurant was delicious with a great menu. Loved the SPA area as well. I would highly recommend this hotel, just what a traveler needs.

Twas a Brilliant and Grand Experience staying at the Grand Hotel Kempinski in Riga, Latvia. The staff were all top notch and I had the best Massage of my life in their spa. The Sauna, Cold Plunge, and Pool were very relaxing after a long plane ride. The Lobby was like something out of a Fairytale and harks back to the days of Opulence when Diplomats and Royalty would stay here. I think they probably still do.

One fun fact is there is no 2nd floor on the Elevator switchboard due to the fact that used to be the floor where the KGB occupied to spy on all visiting guests.

This might sound crazy, but no joking, The Kempinski has the best Tiramisu that I have ever had and I have had it a lot. It was the creamiest and most decadent thing i have ever tasted. I had to order it twice with room service.

My Walk in closet was the size of a small apartment in Japan. They also have a wonderful Laundry service that washed and dry cleaned everything I needed to make my trip easier.

I had a wonderful view of the Opera house and city from my room. I was also there during the Summer Solstice, so it stayed pretty much light most of the night, the blackout curtains made it extra easy to sleep.

The Staff at the front desk went above and beyond the call of duty. They helped me book my bus ticket to Tallinn and gave me some great recommendations on restaurants and local haunts where they would go.

Also if you plan on staying here in Riga you should go to the site Tours by Locals and Contact Emils D. He really made my Latvian experience one I will not soon forget. We did Stand Up Paddle Boarding on the Kemeri Bog to bring in the First Sun of the Summer Solstice, then we attended the Concert of Raimonds Pauls ( the national treasure and accomplished pianist/composer) near the Baltic sea in Jurmala, then we went to Bauska to have a home cooked lunch from his parents garden near a castle that was right out of the Princess Bride.

Latvia is Amazing and I shall return Sooner than later.

Dear K8558WRmattd, Thank you kindly for writing such detailed review about your recent visit with us. We are thrilled to read your experience in our Hotel and Latvia is one you will remember. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the services, laundry, Spa and also our delicious Tiramisu. Indeed our Hotel has rich history as it first opened its doors in 1878 to guests. It was also a first Hotel in Riga that had telephone and electric light. As you mentioned the Hotel is next door to Latvia's National Opera house with beautiful park that must be visited. We have shared your praise with our colleagues and we are hoping you can visit our Hotel and beautiful Latvia in the nearest future. Kind Regards, Sabine Laicane Training and Quality Manager

I can highly recommend this hotel. Very classic and luxury interior. Hotel staff is very polite and accommodating so that you feel very welcomed.
The room was huge and with an amazing view to the opera house. One Highlight is the choose of a special pillow in advance.
The breakfast is very delicious - you should order the eggs Benedict’s or freshly made crepes. You won’t regret it!
Although the location of the hotel is perfect to discover the whole city, you should also consider some time to enjoy the beautiful spa. The wellness area is not only huge but also very well planned with several saunas and small details. I really loved it.
If I return to Riga I will definitely stay here again. You shouldn’t miss it.

I've made a couple of reviews of this hotel already, so this time simply wanted to give a kudos in respect to a few short stays in October this year, while the lockdown in Latvia was kicking in. The service and ample of facilities at the hotel remained unchanged, with great breakfast and excellent food at top-floor restaurant. The SPA was also fully functional, and same great experience like before - which is rare these days. The staff was very accommodating, made nice upgrade for me and even made me back to the same room a few days later, when I had to book literally few hours before arrival to the hotel - yet they were ready and welcoming. As said, the breakfast was excellent and had a reduced price for members, a much appreciated gesture, especially when staying alone. Unfortunately, the parking isn't more free for black members, so had to switch to public parking. The hotel remains very well maintained, clean and quiet, with upscale ambience and elegant, warm service.
