Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Like people have said, it is not the best hotel BUT the staff are very friendly and the location is everything!!! Contrary to some reviews, we did have lots of hot water and they brought in a heater for us since it was cold and it worked great. The kitchen was broken when we were there so there was no breakfast, but they gave us a room discount and we had great breakfast around the corner at Big Bad Bagel. The beds were very low to the ground, but comfortable, and for being in old town, the location was actually very quiet.

Does any want to reserve and travel to A hotel in Riga with No hot water????????????  · Location was fabulous, except many nearby bars and restaurants hire bands , that play loud outside music begining at 18:00/19:00 until 23:00;  · No hot water, no one gavę us noticed that during our your three day stay will be no hot water! We cancelled our next two days. No hot water!!!!!! No showers, baths, etc. If notice gived, we would never have stayed at all. We discovered the No hot water the first morning. We also wanted some money for giving us A major discount or the room for the first night. The reception said He had not authority. He called the Manager. The reception said No other emplyees at the hotel except him. The Manager was in another country. We left. Another receptionist when we checked in wanted three days payment. Insisted on it. So we paid for three days without bring told No hot water!!!!! This hot iš bad. Very bad.

Location is good. Breakfast is poor. Room was insufficiently clean. Main problem was with a TV, after 30 min of working unexplained smoke went out of the TV. No trouble signals occurred from fire alarm system. That was so dangerous! Probably the system is not working. Looks like staff do not know what to do in such situations. I recommend to check fire alarm system in this hotel.

Reading previous reviews I must admit to being apprehensive, to put it mildly. However, on arrival these fears were dismissed immediately. We were a family group of 10 and stayed here from 20th - 22nd of July. Rooms were immaculate and all staff were very friendly and helpful. Fantastic location close to all amenities in the heart of old town. I’m delighted to say that our experience here was everything we needed and could have asked for

Got diverted to this place but never got notice. I originally booked in the Garden Palace which...turns out is closed for renovation. Internet works intermittently and when I asked about it at the front desk I got a shoulder shrug. TV has 7 stations...3 of which work. No coffee in the room. Dated & tired decor. Shower curtain is grotty. I would skip this place.

The only positive thing about this hotel is it's location. Located in the center of the old town of Riga, close to many historical sites, musea, parks, bars and restaurants makes it convenient. Bit that is realy where te positive vibe ends! Unfriendly staff, no lights in the lobby, old-fashioned rooms. Breakfast is provided in your room, after filling out a form with your preferences the day before. But breakfast comes half hour too early, eggs are cold, no salt and pepper, no spoon to eat your oat-meal. You only get one cup of coffee. There is a phone in the room, but no list of internal phone numbers. So I tried dialing 1, got a ring-tone but no answer! Summary of it all: DO NOT CHOOSE THIS HOTEL!

please take some time to read this. Everything is 100% true. We booked one of the suites through Booking.com all looked good. On arrival I was asked to pay cash as the card machine was not working (which I stupidly did). We went up to our room which was very dated but we thought ok two nights we’ll put up with it. My good lady went for a shower after our travels which is when our issues started. The smell was horrendous so I went to reception to see what they could do. I was told it would be sorted out. We went for dinner and returned to be told it was all repaired, which it certainly was not! Someone had been into the room and sprayed air freshener and that was it! So back to reception where I was told it would be best if I stayed somewhere else!!! I thought it was a joke! But no there was no offer of another room so I needed to find somewhere else to stay. At this point I was told that the banking for the day had been done and I would have to come back tomorrow for a full refund, I was not happy but I eventually agreed. The following day it was a different member of staff and a different story. I was told I needed to leave my bank details and the money would be put into my account in the next two days. Luckily enough we were in Latvia for a week so after a long stand off and numerous promises again I reluctantly agreed. We returned to the capital three days later and still no money so back to the hotel to be fobbed off some more. I asked to see a manager on every visit but no one was ever available to see me. To cut a very long story short I visited the hotel at least six times over the next three days to be told that there was no manager or manageress to speak to me. I was asked to leave on two occasions and I asked them to call security or the police I did mind which they did neither. Eventually my good lady who is Latvian said we should leave as we were getting nowhere which again reluctantly I did. So we thought we would speak to Booking.com to see if they could help mediate between us. Initially they we reasonably helpful and said they would speak to the hotel which I think they did. Only to be told that I needed to have proof we were offered a full refund by the hotel. And there was nothing they could or were willing to do. Again I asked for any of the mangers/manageresses details again no help. I have since emailed the hotel from different addresses trying to get a name of someone I could speak to again no joy so it looks like the big company’s win. Nowhere else to turn to. Please please please do not get ripped of by either The Royal Square hotel or Booking.com they are both crooks shame on you both!!

Hotel have 5 stars, but I don't know why. We had business class room with one big bed, but the bed was with two separate pads and two bedsheets. TV not connected very good. Safe box not works. Room wasn't clean as it must be. Breakfast a little bit poor. Staff friendly and speak in english, location very good.

Overall service experience was very poor. The guy at reception didnt know what to do at all, so immediately started to call for help. Couldnt figure out that we booked 3 rooms, finally we stayed in lobby for 45 minutes to get our rooms and there were no other guests. The entrance and the lobby are very uninviting - dark, as you dont know whether this hotel is open or not. There were almost no other guests except us, just 4 people at the breakfest. No lobby bar :(. If your room opens to the street its very loud as people have parties around. The room was ok though, breakfest was also good. Just this overall atmosphere was not pleasant somehow.
