Where to start? The location is perfect for getting to all the local attractions and it's surrounded by bars and clubs. You need a security card to get into the hostel so thankfully no one can just walk in off the street. The hostel has the feel of a camp/home, it's got that friendly atmosphere. The bar is priced well. They have Netflix so if you fancy just having a chilled day on the couch, go for it. There's a fussball table in the smaler common room. The owner definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to hiring staff, everyone from the receptionists to cleaners are lovely. Special shoutout to Rachel who's the events person. She really helps gel the group together and makes sure no one's left out.
Saying that though if you don't want to get involved or drink or anything, your never pressured to do so. There's a board at reception with activities or suggestions on what to do that day and night. I'd definitely recommend the pub crawl on Fridays and Saturdays, unlike many crawls I've been on your taken to busy bars with locals in them. Check outs at 11am but our flight wasn't till 10pm, so we done some exploring then chilled in the common room till our flight without feeling like we had to leave. I'm trying to think of any cons but I honestly don't think there was any, it was an amazing stay.

Great location - easy to walk to transportation and the Old Town. Friendly helpful staff. We can recommend the private room with a lovely hot shower and a fan that kept us cool and white noise that helped with street noise at night.

This Hostel is amazing, Matt and Gabriel are great Hosts. The Showers/Toilets were always clean and we had some great time in the common room. The kitchen is nice and some basic stuff like coffee or pastas are free to use. I highly recommend !

This is the place to stay in Riga. From the jump, the staff were warm and friendly. Matt and Gabe made sure Latvia was a great stop on my trip. They brought us around Riga and took us on excursions such as shooting at a gun range. Great atmosphere, can't recommend enough!

I stayed 2 nights with my interrail group. And, regardless of the reason why you find yourself staying in this hostel, I recommend it to everyone. Super friendly and jovial staff, comfortable structure, beautiful, clean rooms.
Little gem: if you find yourself traveling alone, and want to make friends, this is a very "social" hostel, where the meetings are sponsored by the same team, so it is very easy to make friends.

Had the best time here - it’s such a great hostel! Really clean, comfy, great staff and guests, fun activities on every night, nice little kitchen and lovely common area where you can easily meet other travellers. Really made my experience in Riga so fun - thank you!

The fact that the moment I turned up to the hostel I was offered a free shot... I knew im going to like it here. (Unfortunately for me I was already suffering from some heavy drinking before hand I threw it all up)! The staff (bar one) where lovely! Very chatty and helpful given us tips about the area! One night there was one member of staff who was quite rude however next day she was fine so maybe she hungover or on her period or something! One thing that did let the side down on our floor three of the toilets where out of order at the same time!! This was not fixed for a whole day! That meant one working toilet between around 30 people!! I mean it may have been my friend who blocked it to begin with (he had a hard week) but considering the free toilet was occupied by a drunk English women a quicker plumbing job would of been appreciated! That said I'd stay again!! The craic was good

We absolutely loved this place. Great fun (bar stays open till late hours) and staff are so friendly and helpful.
Absolutely recommend to stay in this hostel if your young and want to meet people as the communal areas are comfortable and its easy to meet fellow travelers. Rooms were spotless and modern. Great value.

Dear backpacker, after experiences in more than a hundred hostels all over the world I have to evaluate this one as the "worst case" to choose. If you cancel your booking at this hostel right in time, even so do not be surprised finding a debit of a one night´s stay (without having a bed!) on your credit card account. Well, and when you think it might be an easy procedure to get back the refund, then the staff of the new "Naughty Squirrel Backpackers" (formerly Argonaut´s) will teach you a lesson how rude, provocative and insulting a staff only can be. Only a few months ago this was one of the good hostels in Riga but with the new "Naughty Squirrel"-management you might be confronted with its new "manners". So before booking this hostel, do not hesitate to ask me for my e-mail-conversation with the hostel to update your expectations. Have a good time in Riga and choose your hostel with care!

Hello, My name is Jarrod, the owner and manager of the naughty squirrel backpackers in Riga, latvia... This is the one and only case where we have had any problems with over 1000+ bookings this year already. We accepted we made a mistake with charging his card when he had already cancelled. He wasnt taken out of our system and was charged the first night stay, which is standard no-show procedure. When he contacted us we admitted we made a mistake and told him he will get his money back, which he did. I also admit it took sometime as we had troubles refunding the money to his credit card, even though the total was minor (4.90) I still understand why he was upset, we made a mistake and we admit that. Since we took over in Feb 2009 we have taken the hostel from 8th in the latvian listings to 4TH BEST IN THE WORLD voted from hostelworld customers for May 2009! We are now the top rated hostel in latvia and when you stay with us you will find out why! life is a smile and travelling is the dream!! Safe travels Jarrod owner and manager
