Hotel's Favourite
5.0 of 5 bubbles
This was our first trip back after Covid and we worried things would have changed. However, the hotel is still very special and the staff work so hard to make everything perfect.

There are lots of new staff who are working their socks off to get trained up.

It was very hot for our stay (June 24 to July 8) it was pretty much 32 degrees everyday.

Our room - we stayed in a Romance Villa Room 3003 which was really close to the main pool and the beach. The room is lovely and spacious, with an outside shower as well and indoor one.

The pools are well maintained, the secret pools are our personal favourites.

The beach is lovely, there has been a lot of comments about the seaweed, however there is a small barrier in the sea now that reduces the amount, and staff clear it daily so it is very minimal. It is an issue along the whole coast, and each hotel does its best. It is as people say ‘mother nature’.

The pools seem busier this time, but beds are plentiful. The pool side waitresses work so hard bringing us drinks (make sure you tip them for their hard work!) they even find you when your in the pool for a dip and drop off your drinks! What service!!

The Food is great too, there is always something to cater for all tastes in the buffet restaurant’s.

The a la carte’s are also worth trying. Our favourites this time were the Thai - Chang Thai and Sumptuori for the Japanese Cooking Show. (The only a la cartes that require booking are the Japanese and the Fish Restaurant - Poseidon. There is sometimes a wait for a table, but staff work to get you in quickly so after a couple of drinks at the bar you are usually called through.

Buffets at breakfast, our favourite was La Hacienda (it gets really busy around 10am) so earlier the better of you don’t want to wait. But again the food was lovely.

The sports bar is nice and cool with its air con, and the place for 24/7 food, the Jalapeños and Chicken Wings are
A good snack!

Note the The snack bar on the beach Las Olas is no longer 24/7 for food.

We had room service one evening which there is now a $15 tray charge (which if fair I think, as takes time and staff to deliver it)

The Wildlife here is great, Coatis and Racoons as well as lots of Iguanas. And there is a Monkey around we are yet to see this time!

When we came this time it was Mosquito season, so bring some repellant. It is again nature, and staff also suffer so don’t go blaming the staff!

Water Sports
I scuba and would highly recommend Aqua Excursions based by the beach are great! I did some local dives and we saw a pod of about 15 Dolphins off shore at the front of the hotel! We also went to Cozumel for Dive and Snorkel (can snorkel if don’t dive). First dive saw my first Shark! It was amazing!

We also swam with Whale Sharks and that really was an amazing trip!!

There are always a variety of reviews on trip advisor and it’s sometimes difficult to judge what are genuine grips or just general moaners.

We have noticed a slight change to the hotel since pre-covid, but that is only to be expected. Some long time staff have gone, and as I say they are getting their staffing numbers back up post pandemic. Every member of staff from checking, concierge, room cleaners, maintenance staff, bar staff and everyone else in between are so pleasant, helpful and friendly.

I think the guests themselves sometimes
Forget what everyone has been through and sometimes less forgiving than they should be for things that really don’t matter! I for one have nothing but praise for everyone we have had any contact with.

And we can’t wait to be back in April 2023!

Overall, this was a great all inclusive place for vacation. We only stayed 3 nights and would recommend at least another night (or more). On our first morning we got a call that there was a welcome gift waiting for us next to reception. We were then told that we would need to check out the membership options and rooms that would be available if booking directly with the hotel instead of travel agent and it would only take 40 minutes to an hour. It actually took over 2 hours and the "gift" of free entry to the spa and 50% off a massage which we did not use was more like compensation for our time. This was misleading and we did not appreciated to have our time wasted like this on this sales pitch as we were only booked for 3 nights and would have preferred spending our morning next to the pool or beach. This is why I rated this as 4 stars instead of 5 stars out of 5. The room was clean apart from the extractor fan in the bathroom. The cocktails were delicious and the food was good (apart from the room service food which was average at best). If you wanted wine with your meal, you would need to pay extra but it would have been nice to have a wine option that was included at no extra charge. The live music and shows at night were excellent. Check out was at 12:00 but we could use the facilities (including food and drink) until 6 p.m. if we wanted which was a pleasant surprise.

We have just returned from an amazing 14 day stay at the Grand Palladium White Sands from the UK. This is our 4th time at a grand palladium hotel and it did not disappoint. One reason we like the Grand Palladium chain is they have a great system in place for allergies and I have a nut allergy.

Alan the maitre’d at La Hacienda in the colonial was outstanding he went above and beyond to make sure I felt safe and had lots of options to eat. He would get the food straight from the Kitchen so cross contamination wasn’t an issue. He made sure I didn’t miss out on all of the lovely food in the Buffett offering to have the chef make it fresh for me. On our last day he made sure I have something to eat before the flight even though the restaurant want open. If you have an allergy I would definitely recommend going to see Alan!
It’s clear all the staff enjoy working with Alan, the restaurant is very well run and the food is great. We were always greeted with a smile.
Maydali was attentive and friendly.

Jeorge at the secrets adult pool was worth a visit. He was happy and friendly giving the pool a great atmosphere.

The resort was well run and clean. We had a great time!

The PROs: Clean hotel rooms, generally overall very good service, multiple pool selection, multiple hotel grounds to share (colonial, kentenah, sands), stocked bar fridge with beer, water and soft drinks, quiet and tranquil setting among the jungle, excellent nightly entertainment, vast restaurant selections for a la Carte dining, multiple bars, FREE wifi at the hotel and rooms, Good assortment of domestic and premium alcohol beverages, buffet breakfast had assortment of pressed juices, always had enough towels and lounge chairs daily. if you like animals, there a many wild but tame animals around the resort.

The CONs: The buffets were virtually the same food everyday, minor selection of fruits compared to other hotels, several A la Carte meals were very salty, no Peanut butter available most breakfasts, Beer tasted watered down and flat every day, Food was average overall, Make one of the pools NON-Smoking and strongly enforce it so that those of us with Lung ailments can breathe clean air!! some restaurants pushed the wine sales aggressively...I had to finally tell the waiter I did not bring any money except for tips. Very rocky beach, no real sandy beach areas

It wasn’t our first time at a Palladium hotel but it was our first time at the one in Mexico. We booked the Romance villa and we were expecting to have a nice private room. Unfortunately we were on the main floor and the hotel refused to change our room even if other rooms were available. There was always people passing in front of patio door, we had no privacy. There was no network/cellphone connection in our room. That was stressful for us since we had young kids at home and we wanted to be reachable at all time. There was a problem with the toilet, it was leaking( we had to leave a towel on the floor next to it ) Couple of evening there was not much hot water but also some evening no hot water at all. We had to take a freezing cold shower before supper. The room service wasn’t up to regular standard. There was some days where we did not get fresh towels to face cloth. Pretty often there was no more towels at the pool in the afternoon. We spoke to someone that offered us a complimentary supper at the cabaret to make up for all the problems but once we got there it was closed that evening! ( they didn’t make the reservation properly) Line up at the buffet to get a table ( never seen this in a all inclusive ). They are not well organized. Food at the buffet is not warm and they are aware but not doing anything about it. They have a travel club at the palladium and be aware that they get vip treatment at the à la carte restaurant compared to the rest of the clients. I don’t feel the 2 mix well together. Travel club should have a reserve section instead. Almost impossible to swim at the beach since it’s really full of sharp rocks. But the beach itself is nice to sun tan and it’s nicely set up. If you have young kids they won’t enjoy swimming in the ocean. We informed the staff of all those things but never did they propose to change our room. Only after we were back that the manager apologize and offered us some type of discount for our next visit but not worth it since paying for the flight separately is more expensive.
So overall do not expect too much. We wonder why the quality is not the same anymore. The rooms need an upgrade but so is the management. Very unfortunate because it wasn’t the first time we went to a Palladium Hotel but now we know it is better to stick to newer hotel groups.

We came a second time as we really enjoyed our visit the first time.
I returned home yesterday... Me and my husband are still both Ill! Terrible stomach cramps and sickness.
Cleaning of our room was terrible, water bottles not replenished. Would return to our room at 4pm and it still hadn't been cleaned, then we would get a knock at the door.
Returning to the room with no replacement towels to bath with
Getting a coffee some mornings was hard work, just put a machine so we can get our own!
Drinks tasted cheap and watered down.
Repeatedly run out of pool towels on more than one occasion.
The food had really declined in quality, lettuce and salad looked dirty and unwashed. Puddings were cheap and low quality. Alot of what you get in the a la carte resturants is exactly the same as the buffet. You want your steak well done? Here have it medium. Sides come out wrong.

The spa facilities used to be included. Over $200 dollars for a massage. Are you joking? Steap increase!! Would rather wait until I get home.

Cockroaches in the room

On check out day I was called three times to ask when I was leaving my room. We had already arranged luggage collect at 1130am (Check out is at 12).

Our 5th stay here. We have been to about half a dozen equivalent resorts south of Cancun.
Great pool, good beach. Parts have coral in the water, so bring water shoes.
Many other resorts look great but have a crummy beach and too much coral to swim in the sea.
This is carefully hidden in their glossy ads.
Plenty of palm trees and thatch sun shades.

This resort allows visits to any of the 9 specialty restaurants every night, but booking is required for the Seafood beach restaurant and the Japanese Teppanyaki grill tables.
Guests can go to any of the restaurants in the 3 parts of the resort.
Most resorts only allow 3 specialty restaurant visits for a one week stay.
The food including the buffets has been consistently very good.
The several buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner are good with varied foods for all tastes.

The resort is large and spread out with several lobbies and blocks of rooms in the jungle connected by covered walkways.
This could be an issue for people with limited mobility, but is overall a plus otherwise.
A shuttle runs people to the lobby and connects the several parts of the resort, including areas for tennis, miniature golf, separate smaller pools and the spa.
There are iguanas, coatimundi’s and agoutis running around. They have flamingos in two separate ponds. We saw a skunk once.

The staff has always been plentiful, helpful and very pleasant.
When we needed something, the front desk has responded promptly and efficiently.

This resort is excellent value and has all the amenities most people could need.

Estefania, our breakfast waitress was our favorite! Such a pleasure to wake up to her beautiful smile! She always remembered us and brought us capuchino and orange juice with ice without us asking. Tomas was a favorite bartender and also Sergio at Colonial swim-up pool bar. Fantastic!

We did book Kantenah but due to Covid low occupancy it is still closed. We were reassigned to a suite in Colonial and we loved it! The rooms are really large and very close to the ginormous Colonial pool where most activities are. The beach was just beyond the pool. Remember to bring your insulated mugs, the bartenders will fill them up to the brim instead of using those small plastic cups and your frozen margarita will stay icy for hours!!

We thought all the restaurants, including the breakfast and lunch buffets were good. Of the a la carts Sumptori was our favorite. Be sure to book early to get a show table! Download the Palladium app and once you’ve checked in you can make your dinner reservations on the app. You are allowed to book for the same day and one day ahead. Normally you do not have to make reservations, this is only due to Covid and low occupancy, which is perfectly understandable! Two or three a la carts were open each night on a rotating basis. There were a few times we couldn’t get the app to work so we had to go to Guest Services to reserve a restaurant.

All employees wore a mask over both their mouth and nose all the time! Even the lifeguards! There was constant cleaning. You were not allowed to enter any restaurant without a mask on and your temperature was taken, then you were given hand sanitizer and if a buffet you were given a glove to wear when touching serving utensils.

The only negatives we did have a problem with water dripping from an overhead vent and air conditioner trouble but once we called a serviceman was at our door within 10 minutes and within 30 minutes had fixed the issue.

I don’t like how aggressive the salesmen are who run you down when you go to the lobby. I would advise management to reconsider this approach.

And I will say the pool bathrooms need more frequent cleaning. The floors were often an inch thick in water and very slippery.

Otherwise, this is a beautiful resort carved out of the jungle and I would highly recommend it! Keep in mind being in the jungle means there are lots of animals around. We are leaving tomorrow and I am already looking forward to our return.

We were there for a wedding and originally booked with Kantenah! Due to low occupancy, we were moved to the romance villas in colonial. We were very disappointed in the size of the room as well as the location and our view! We wanted to have a ocean view but would’ve been happy with a pool view but instead had a garden view! Our porch light didn’t work so going in and out at night was done so with caution as we didn’t know what type of critters we may have had on our porch! The room smelled like mildew which I’m sure was due to not having been open! You would think with guests arriving, that they would’ve sprayed for insects and had the room smelling a bit fresher. We struggled getting our air conditioner to work right and the tv channels was very minimal! Overall, we liked the resort and entertainment and if we go back it will be with a jr suite as those rooms were quite a bit bigger and also have 3 story buildings so an ocean view would be very possible!
