The location is beautiful, the lodges are nice and well positioned. Even though they are all reasonably close that has been well managed for privacy.

The staff were very nice, helpful, friendly and polite.

Things that I was not especially happy about:

They clearly have mobile phone signal blockers so that you can’t use your mobile unless you log onto their very slow WIFI or pay £15 a day for the decent one.

The beds are VERY uncomfortable, we had read this in previous reviews and taken our own extra thick topper but it didn’t help much.

The sofa, again not very comfortable and not very clean.

Lodge was not as spotless as I’d have liked in these Covid times so I ended up wiping all the surfaces down myself when we arrived.

The tables in the outside bar/restaurant are clearly not being wiped between uses despite signs saying they are. However staff were ensuring people obeyed the rules and wore masks in shop etc.

My top tips if you are going here:

Take a bed topper (take two!)
Take your own Firewood-or pay their prices
Take a Pizza wheel they deliver delicious pizza to your room..but it’s uncut.
Take Bug spray-for the love of God a good one!!

If you plan on cooking go kitted out their kitchen is not much help!

There is a lovely log burning stove but no heat glove or real tools, so those might be a good idea.

The shower was great!
Shop was well stocked.

BBQ is a gas one and a bit weak, ok for burgers and sausages but not a decent steak.

Take:
Bin bags
Kitchen roll and dettol
Wipes for tables etc
Decent size mugs and glasses
Spatula
Salt and pepper
Cooking oil ….things like that!

The fridge is small so don’t over pack on cold food.

Ask to have your hot-tub temperature turned up if it’s a bit tepid for you.

Visit the local brewery for lunch at the weekend it’s really nice and the owners were lovely.

I loved the woods and the location, the whole idea of this kind of holiday was bliss. I just feel they could do better.

I’m not sure I’d go again purely because of the beds. A good nights sleep is up there with my must haves!

My wife and I have just returned from a week’s break to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We opted to stay in one of the hideaways as a treat, and chose cabin 20. The location of the cabin was perfect with no other cabins overlooking us on the rear decking where the hot tub etc was. From looking at the positions of the other hideaways I would have to say ours was the most secluded, the others are slightly overlooked at the back by the others and other cabins.
Double hammock on the decking was a great plus and views into the forest were perfect to relax in the hot tub.

We ordered three different meals throughout the week which were delivered to the lodge. The food was still hot when delivered and at the time we requested and was really tasty.

As other reviews have said there is not a lot to do here, unless you pay for additional activities, but the surrounding forest was great for enjoying walks and cycling.

We took a trip to the New Forest (only 35 mins away) and visited Bolton’s Bench. This was a great place to see numerous wild horses and cows!

Only real negative was when we ordered a breakfast from the forest retreat one morning. After an hour we still had not had our food and when we queried this with staff they told us that the Wi-Fi connection had gone down and so the order had not gone from the till to the kitchen so the kitchen staff hadn’t received the order and weren’t aware of any food needing to be cooked. Whilst I understand that technology can be a bit hit and miss occasionally, I feel that the staff should have been aware that they had been taking food orders but then not actually brought any food out to customers and should have looked into this without the need for customers to have to raise the issue. We certainly weren’t the only people affected by this issue who were waiting for their food.

We have just got home from a 4 night stay at blackwood forest. I will start with the positives.
Beautiful stunning views from your cabins. Even though it was fully booked it is so peaceful and you hardly hear or see anyone else. The forest for a walk is stunning and is great to be outdoors breathing in the fresh air. Someone comes to clean the hottub daily, the hottubs are beautiful, spacious and we spent alot of our holiday in there.
Negatives:
I understand from reading other reviews forest holidays do not own the land but my god i feel i need new wheels and a bumper from the pot holes! I some are massive holes which you can not avoid! There are so many its disgusting and any normal car trying to dodge them is impossible, they need sorting asap! It even put us off going out of the park 1 day as its so bad coming in and out.
The cabin was disgustingly dirty!!! Its the height of covid and the dust on the blinds and windowseals was awful.there was a squashed blue bottle fly on the bathroom door.behind the curtains was full of cobwebs and dust.our windows had hand prints and so many smears all over them. A previous guest had split what looked like coke in the bedroom and it was all squirted up the wall. We did go and complain which i hate doing but it was one thing after another and the holiday was not cheap. The cleaning manager came round to see us,she was lovely and brought us a bottle of prosecco and gave us the entertainment package as a sorry which was nice of them to do. After this our dog had pushed his bone under the sofa and i wish i never looked under there!!
You can not got any signal on site,if there is an issue it tells you to call them but how??
We went to order food one evening from the retreat which was about 200yards away, the food was so expensive then they wanted to charge £2.50 for delivery! So 2 burger meals would of cost over £25 which we didnt order in the end.
The cabin has under floor heating but during the day it was so cold we could not warm up even though we had the heat up full all day! Come evening it all of a sudden was so hot we had to open all the doors to cool it down. The under floor heating did not work in the living area but again no signal to call maintanance.
The park is not lit at all at night,so if you wanted a stroll of an evening it was pitch black!
The walks were beautiful but the posts to stop and read were still from christmas so nothing to read about the park.
Some of the bins were overflowing on the walks and not changed.
Its a shame as we wanted to go back again to another of their parks but we have really been put off from here.

went for a weekend break with family to celebrate partners 60th .I had previously read reviews about cleanliness issues, so made a point of phoning and requesting the cabin would be clean as I did not want to make complaints in front of my partner ..

On arrival found the oven tray covered in old fat the kitchen worktops dirty and under the beds fluff I had to buy cleaning stuff and glad I took my own tea towel .There was a dirty mark on the bottom of the toilet. The showers look like they need a makeover the en suite is less powerful then the family shower , The cabin looked very tired and cobwebs in several areas the windows were dirty and as its about looking out and enjoying the views a bit impossible when not clean .the cushions underneath were covered in dog hairs.

I do not understand why the management do not hire a professional team to go in and clean there are many comments about this, and still they do not address the issues as I pre warned I would not be happy to arrive to a dirty cabin there was no point me complaining on our stay ,as if this could not be acknowledge beforehand then too late after.

I am saying this as do not wish a reply from the staff saying sorry to read this and it would of been sorted the cost was high when I pre booked a few months in advance, and was even more infuriated to see a black friday deal and now discount deals.

The hot tub was the best part ,but also the decking should be kept clean and maintained especially in damp conditions where the deck is slippery and dirty .If the management just re invested some money could be a delightful place its definatley not a 5 star more 3 would not visit again unless there are major improvements ..

I did read the reviews before going, and was worried about cleanliness etc.

We stayed in a hideaway cabin, that unfortunately had a lot of cobwebs and I did find a few hairs in the bed.
The cooker etc is heavily used but I wouldn’t say the cabin was filthy like other reviews it was ok.

The facilities are not great, even in a hotel room you would get tea bags and a bottle of water, which you didn’t get either in the cabin.

Spa treatment was ok, expensive for what it was. Facial was nice but ‘time for 2’ is a lot more expensive than 1 therapist for 2/4 hours. Unsure why really..

Hot tub was ok, bath was nice!
Shower pressure was low, beds were ok but the whole place needs modernising.
Paint on wall on cabin on ceiling, even I can cut in better then that ?
Small things would make the world of difference.
No logs for log burner you have to by for £7 something

The husband and wife who do archery and air rifle shooting were brill however! Had such fun with them :)

Tv package ok.. no Netflix and you really
Shouldn’t have to pay extra considering the cost of the cabin.

Ordered food on last night, burger wasn’t to my taste.. chips were lovely,
Don’t bother with sharing fondu thing as it’s cheap mini donuts with a chocolate sauce, just not worth the price!

Honestly, I wouldn’t stay here again as you could get the same / better for half the price.
Everything cost extra!

I would say take bottled water or a water filter with you unless you like tap water.

This is just what we needed for a relaxing break to recharge our batteries. We stayed in the golden oak cabin. There was more than ample room, really spacious and cosy. I became obsessed with the wood burner - it was a joy to warm up next to it after relaxing in the hot tub! First night we arrived, we ordered pizza and chips from the forest retreat. The chips were delicious! For the remaining 5 nights we cooked and on this note, it's only fair to say the kitchen was equipped with everything you would need to prepare a home made meal.
The master bedroom had lovely little touches to make our stay comfortable. Dressing gowns, slippers and hair dryer. The mattress comfort level was the best I have experienced when being away from home.
There is a premium entertainment package available but we opted to use the complimentary wifi as we bought our own dvds & games console.
We also ventured out only as far as Winchester and festival place shopping centre. But the whole point really of going was to unwind in a forest surrounding and walk within nature.
One night I struggled carrying extra logs bought from the forest restreat shop and a friendly member of staff picked them up for me to load in my car.
All in all, the 4 night break surpassed our expectations. Would definitely recommend if you're after a silent retreat and want to get away from the hustle and the bustle.

We, as a family, have stayed at forest holidays before in Kelly so we knew the standard we were going to experience when we booked Blackwood Forest. However, from the minute we arrived and for the complete duration of our stay we were astounded that the expected "good" standards we had already experienced were well and truly exceeded!

The cabin was perfect in every way, location brilliant, distance to the next cabin close enough to know you were not alone but far enough away not to hear any noise, clean, very well catered with everything you could possibly need and above all else warm and comfortable.

The site was very well located, close to both Basingstoke and Winchester but when on site we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere.

Above everything else and what made our holiday perfect was the site staff, they were absolutely amazing. We cannot single anyone out who went over and above as every single member of the team did. Every single request we had, however obscure or difficult, was actioned effortlessly. The staff make Blackwood forest perfect and in turn our holiday perfect! We cannot thank you enough. We are so impressed and grateful for everything the team did that we have already booked again for next October, unfortunately our cabin (number 1) is not available for when we return but we are confident we will love wherever we are situated.

Thank you again for making our break perfect and we well see you next October!

We took advantage of this site being close to home for a relaxing family weekend which we could drive to after our daughter finished school on the Friday when she had an inset day on the Monday. As we live close we weren't bothered by the local attractions we spent the whole weekend on site. We had pizza delivered one night from the forest retreat which was lovely and I even saw a bat going into the batbox behind our silver birch cabin. The staff were lovely and my 7 year old took part in the mini rangers activity which she loved! Although the array a dead taxidermy animals were quite smelly. My one bit of advise if planning on venturing out of the cabin after dark is get a decent headtorch we forgot ours and the torch function on the phones was not ideal! Also I took a lone stroll with my camera and got some fantastic pictures! My only issue was the overpriced cuddly toy (£50 looked worth £25) in the shop which you can't avoid whilst checking in which caused a melt down when I refused to purchase it!

Overall we had a fab stay with a group of friends in a 3 bed silver birch cabin with Forest Holidays. Though it was half term week, and the cabins all seemed occupied, it was still v quiet and felt private.

As a nature lover I enjoyed sitting on the decking watching the birds come and go, and the trees rustling in the breeze. Our two activities on site, the Ultimate Survival afternoon and archery were both excellent, and the activity leaders were knowledgeable and passionate. Apart from that we also enjoyed walks in the woodland, board games, BBQs and of course the hot tub.

We had a hiccup with checking in which was compensated for, and the cabin itself was large and spotless. Staff came to clean the hot tub every day, and were all professional and courteous. The kitchen is broadly well equipped but if you're planning to cook something specific, take your own utensils with you (e.g. our kitchen didn't have a whisk, sieve or scales).

The only drawback would be price of the cabin. We booked and paid pre-pandemic, before the wild rush for UK holidays - plus we had a discount so it became very good value for money. But having looked at the current going rate for our cabin, it would've cost nearly three times as much, and I'd say that wouldn't be worth it. The experience is good quality, but you could probably find the same thing cheaper elsewhere.

Overall a great stay, and pretty much what we were looking for - though would keep an eye on prices and discounts to grab a bargain.

Stayed last week (Mon-Fri) in a Silver Birch cabin & had a very relaxing stay. Each cabin has it's own private hot tub which is treated daily & we were able to use each afternoon/evening. The cabin was spotlessly clean had everything we needed. The onsite restaurant is pretty small inside, although apart from the first day when checking in (which was very busy) there were always spare tables the rest of the week.

Used the takeaway service twice, good menu which includes Pizza, Chinese, Indian, Burgers etc. Really good vegan/vegetarian options too! There was a fee of £2.95 to have the food delivered. The orders were spot on & food was really good!

The forest was lovely to walk in & although it's not far from the M3 you would never know.

Although we loved our stay & have booked up again, I do feel it's expensive if going in the Spring/Summer however is reasonable in the Winter, especially when using the online discount code. Another tip is to use Tesco clubcard points as this can cover up to 25% of the cabin price (although cannot be used in conjunction with a discount code) so work out which is best.

Staff onsite were all very friendly & we had no issues with our stay. I have given 5 stars as I couldn't fault it.

Thank you for your lovely review of our Blackwood cabins. We are so happy that you had a great time and that your food was delicious! We do tend to have a fluctuation in price in the summer months, however if you enjoy the crisp air whilst relaxing in your the hot tub, a winter break might suit you best. Thank you for your kind words regarding our team, and I hope we can welcome you again in the future.

It depends what you are in to? Peppa Pig World isn’t too far away, obviously attached to Paultons Park if you have older children. Portsmouth isn’t too far away either so you have the Dockyard there. If you like a slightly longer journey you can get to Longleat or Beaulieu without too much difficulty.
