Value
We are a modest middle class hotel. Built in 1890 and put to a new use as a bed & breakfast; enjoy the charm of our landmark hotel in a friendly, informal atmosphere. Only an 8-10 minute walk from the train station, we are the perfect base to explore the region, close enough to enjoy the best views in town of the Staubbach falls but far enough away to stay dry.

We stayed here for 6 nights in July. We loved this hotel and the area so much that we added 2 more nights to our original 4 night stay.

First of all, the staff were all so kind and friendly. They even surprised us with decorating our room with romantic decorations and a bottle of champagne when they found out we were celebrating our anniversary. What an amazing surprise!!

The rooms were cleaned daily even with Covid. Which a lot of hotels have stopped doing. The included breakfast we were given had so much food and the coffee was great. There were no hot items but plenty of other tasty food to fill you up and a view of Staubbach Falls that can’t be beat.

Location-The location could not have been better. Its on the Valley floor with Wengen being on one side up above and Murren being on the other side up above. It was so easy to last minute go to either one for hikes, dinner or drinks. To get to Wengen it is a short breathtaking scenic 15min train ride. To get to Murren it was a short cable car ride up the hill then train ride that was waiting when you get off the cable car so total around 15-20min. To get to Interlaken Ost by train was a short 20min train ride. Both the train station and cable car to Murren were about a 5-10min walk from the hotel.

Then you have the incredible Staubbach falls view from your balcony, pay more for the balcony with view of the falls it’s so worth it. Along with the falls you have the view of the unbelievable towering cliff sides. You can walk the Valley floor to Trummelbach falls in about 45min. You will see the river, cows, sheep and little vending machines selling the farmers cheese and milk. You also can see paragliders coming down from the cliffs above.

The whole area is like something out of a movie. I highly recommend staying here!

We stayed in the attic room on the right hand side of the hotel where we could see the waterfalls, the room was very warm and snug and sufficient for our needs. We shared a bathroom which was not a problem as only one other room was occupied. Breakfast was really nice and the cherry jam was to die for, there was hot chocolate, tea, coffee available all day long and after our walks the bathroom and hot chocolate was a welcoming drink. We had been travelling for 3 months in mostly big cities to see all the sights, and Lauterbrennen was just a lovely quiet place to relax for a few days, although we walked a long way along the valley floor. The staff were very friendly and the manager was very helpful with our onward train journey to Paris, so thank you all.

Hotel Staubbach is in a fantastic location looking up the Lauterbrunnen Valley to gorgeous mountain peaks and with stunning Staubbach Falls literally next door. There is free parking in front of the hotel and in an adjacent unpaved lot. The hotel provides a Lauterbrunnen guest card that gives discounts at local attractions, including some that were not covered by our Swiss Travel Pass. It also helps that it is a nice hotel with friendly and super-helpful staff. David in particular was great, but everyone we dealt with was wonderful!

The hotel is old (built in 1890), but in good shape. The water pressure and hot water in the shower are amazing. You can't use full pressure; it’s just too much! There are no TV or phone, but who cares. There is a slight problem in that the church down the street rings its bells EVERY hour, even at night. However, we had good earplugs and that solved the problem.

We particularly enjoyed our large room with balcony and outstanding view of the falls. We had a wine/cheese/charcuterie/bread dinner out there several nights. The hotel has a "picnic" room with a communal kitchen (refrigerator, freezer, microwave, sink) where you can store any perishable food items and there is an eclectic mixture of dinnerware, glassware, and eating utensils to borrow.

The included breakfast was excellent. We had local cheeses, freshly scrambled eggs, delicious English bacon, bircher muesli, yogurt, fresh croissants, meats, local cherry and strawberry jams, and fresh fruit. We had to depart early on our final morning and they were nice enough to prepare a breakfast for us to take away: a boiled egg, ham and cheese sandwich, excellent apple, water, condiments. Such a good place and such nice people!

The only reason I rated it 4 rather than 5 was because of the cost, nearly 180 Swiss Francs per night. Everything else was perfect. Inbeatble location 1 bus stop away from the Bahnhof, with picture perfect views of the church and Staubbach falls from the dining room window. The church bells actually added to the experience, didn't bother us at all. The dawn view of the town from our 3th floor window, which also included the arriving/departing trains was great. Room was decently appointed, nothing lacking. Breakfast had a good spread, including fresh scrambled eggs too. Free 24/hour coffee/tea was a huge bonus in expensive Switzerland. The access to a microwave and kitchen with crockery and seating tables was a big help too. The young lady at the reception was very friendly and cheerful, unfortunately I cannot recall the name. The Staubach Falls walk is priceless. COOP grocery store is also closeby, just across from the Bahnhof. All stores in Switzerland close early (7 pm?), 5 pm on Saturdays. They are closed on Sundays.

Large comfortable family room with three beds and lots of storage. Large radiators to dry ski clothes on after skiing. Great powerful and warm shower room ensuite. Third floor rooms opposite side to room 38 have views of the waterfall. I stayed with Oak Hall. Bus stop to lifts about a minute walk from hotel, or walk to Lauterbrunen train Station takes 8 minutes.

Of the 25 days we spent travelling in Europe, by far our fondest memory is that of staying at Hotel Staubbach. We had adjoining rooms on the top floor with a balcony that wrapped around the corner. A glorious view of the valley and waterfalls. The rooms were well maintained, clean and large. The breakfast was very good and the staff was helpful and personable. Our stay was made even more enjoyable by the outstanding hospitality provided to us upon our arrival by Dawid. He is truly an outstanding host.

Over the decades I have stayed at many hotels - both inexpensive and expensive. Hotel Staubbach is by far my most favorite of all hotels. When you pair the wonderful staff, the great rooms, the overall warmth of the hotel itself and couple it with its location, it is fabulous.

Also, this trip was postponed 3 times due to Covid. I make it a rule to also book direct with a hotel rather than with a service. Because we had to shift dates several times the hotel staff was extremely helpful. I do not think you receive this level of service through 3rd party booking services. ALWAYS book direct.

We've stayed here before and wanted to take our friends here for their trip to Switzerland. Lovely place in a lovely location. Rooms were great with connecting balconies and a tremendous view down the valley and of the larger waterfall. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good and the location is great as you sit and look out at the mountains and the waterfalls. Very easy access to the train-station and numerous restaurants. Great easy hiking up the valley from the hotel. I really liked the fact that you can get coffee or tea downstairs all the way till 10 at night. We didn't move our car the entire time we were there because everything was so convenient. This is the only place we would stay when in this area and it should be the only place you stay also.

We had a wonderful stay in this older hotel in Lauterbrunnen.
A year before we had booked this hotel and had to cancel due to COVID. The management was extremely helpful in rebooking us even though they were "sold out" at the time we contacted them.
We were greeted by enthusiastic staff upon our arrival. Sonne and Maria were extremely helpful and friendly. All staff was warm and welcoming throughout our stay.
Our room was a corner room with a balcony that faced up valley, offering mountain and waterfall views. We "dined" each evening during our stay on local wines/beers and Alpkäse.
Breakfast staff served us wonderful varieties of cheeses, meats, cereals, breads, fruits and egg dishes. We could not ask for better food or service! Each day, the hostess spent time with us at breakfast and talked about our days past and present.
It is our hope to return to this fabulous area and we know exactly where we will be booking our stay: Hotel Staubbach.

We stayed at the Hotel Staubbach during three rainy days in July. It could have been a disaster if not for the wonderful staff and location of the hotel. The hotel staff helped us plan great hikes around the weather that worked perfectly. We were able to take advantage of some great half-day mountain hikes when the sun was out and on the valley floor when the weather was less than perfect. They helped us find restaurants and anything else we needed. When it was too raining to go out, we had an incredible view of the Staubbach falls from our balcony. (They have rooms with balconies, but also have public balconies on every floor for others to enjoy.)

It is an older hotel--if you read the history of the early climbs of the Eiger and the Jungfrau you will find mentions of the Hotel Staubbach,,,but its age is part of the charm and brings you back to the days when J.R.R. Tolkien traipsed the Lauterbrunnen Valley and was inspired by it to later create the geography of Middle Earth. What a chance to stay in a hotel that is part of that history!

Excellent location with a spectacular view of Staubbach falls. Both Senne and Adam at the front desk provided us with excellent information on the region as well as recommendations for our dinner choices.
Our room (37) was clean and comfortable although the pillows were not the best to sleep on. Breakfast was delicious and the room it was served in provided a beautiful view of the falls. All of the staff were friendly but we want to note how good the service Senne provided us with! Highly recommend this hotel as it has been the best so far during our trip to Europe this summer!
