My girlfriend and I spent one night in the farmhouse at the end of our trip to the South Island and were immediately regretting that we couldn't stay for a lot longer. The farmhouse is nestled in the Takamatua valley, about 5-10min drive from Akaroa and is surrounded by hills filled with sheep, cows, chickens and even a working dog...

A fabulous start to a 3 week holiday in NZ for my wife and I. Katherine and Hugh are excellent hosts and a fountain of local knowledge and ideas! They seems to have a canny knack of engaging in conversation or letting you get on with your day. We stayed in the beautiful, cosy house and had a lovely view...

Sheep shearing and the dog herding was great! We got to have a hands on experience and learned a lot of facts that we did not know. Homemade snacks were delicious. Really nice to meet a couple that still knows the meaning of hard work and hospitality. If we are ever back that way again, we will stay at their...

We stayed in the shepherd's hut and had a lovely stay. It is a charming, tranquil place to stay and the hosts are lovely. My sister stayed in one of the rooms in the house, which was a different style but equally lovely. If you are after a rustic experience,I'd recommend the shepherds hut,if you are after the more charming b and...

Coombe Farm has been - with no doubts - the best accomodation we've had in New Zealand. Katherine and Hugh are extremely kind hosts, the house and the entire property are simply gorgeous, there's attention for every single detail, the breakfast is excellent. Great value for price. You can get to the Farm only by car (5-minute drive from the...

I am not normally a bed and breakfast enthusiast. However, when all 126 reviews of a place are "excellent" I just had to stay here for myself and see what all the fuss was about. Only one night was available and we booked both upstairs rooms in the main house facing the front garden. We are so very happy that...

The title of this review should really be just the first five words. We spent (sadly only) two night at this magical place nestled in a green valley above Akaroa harbor and it was for sure the very best of many excellent accommodations we enjoyed on our trip. We had the beautifully decorated en-suite room at the front - enjoying...

This B and B was a real home from home. Very friendly hosts. Quiet setting. Nice view of countryside and sea from bedroom. Very good drizzle cake an added touch and treat. Would very much recommend on any trip to the akaroa area. Close to town.

We stayed at Coombe Farm with friends, and thought it superb. Our hosts Katherine and Ian could not have been more welcoming. The house itself is beautifully furnished, and Katherine's interest in linens and textiles is evident everywhere, from her stunning collection of quilts, through gorgeous curtains and cushions and table clothes which appear throughout the house. The garden is...

We stayed in the Shepherd's Hut which we loved and have already shared our experience with many others. Kathrine and Hugh were delightful to be with. We felt like we made friends for life! The accommodations were quite comfortable. The outside bathtub was a fun experience and we enjoyed our chats with Kathrine and Hugh. Hugh even showed us around...

“The farmhouse has wifi, but for a unique option, try the Shepherd's Hut. Nothing like it anywhere else.”
  • Those teacups are adorable and a lovely view of a bubbling creek.
  • In a completely private area, truly, you can shower outdoors while you listen to the birds sing.
