we have been to lyzzick hall five times now. for evening meals, and afternoon teas, and to stay overnight on two occasions the service is second to none, they make u very welcome no matter what you book, even if u just pop in for a bowl of soup u are treated as a guest staying there. all staff are a credit to the hotel even the ones u do not meet the chefs and cleaning staff, gardener and chamber maids are a great credit to you as his dennis he puts every one at ease and goes the extra mile when u require something not on the menu as do the chefs.

This was our first time visiting the Lake District and decided to start in Keswick to avoid touristy Windermere. Lyzzick Hall was located just outside of town, and what a gem we found!! This elegant country inn is impeccably maintained. The decor throughout is lovely with beautiful lamps lighting the common areas and dining room. The breakfasts and dinners were superb, using fresh local produce and meats and plated with creativity & care. The rooms were cozy with plenty of cupboard and drawer space to accommodate our 4-night stay. Dennis, the concierge/dining manager, was beyond helpful—recommending lovely local trails, quiet smaller lakes nearby and coastal castles for the adventurous!! By the end of our stay, the staff at Lyzzick seemed more like friends!! It was the BEST way to kick off our UK stay!!

We stayed here for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday) which we booked at fairly short notice (3 weeks). The location is good with easy access off the main road and plenty of on site parking. The staff were all friendly and helpful with any requests we had and followed COVID control guidance. The room was ok although let down by a few minor bits, dirty curtain rail (found when drawing them), low quality laminate flooring in the bathroom, temperamental water temperature when in the shower and the roof sloping over one side of the bed meaning the person sleeping that side had to be very conscious of it when getting in/out of bed so as not to hit their head. The gardens are well kept and great to relax in on a sunny day, enjoying the view across the valley. The breakfast choice was very good, well presented and tasty.

Just home after spending a fabulous couple of days at Lyzzick Hall Keswick. My husband and I have stayed in this hotel about 8/9 times the first time was in 1990. What we love about it, is the great service, excellent service and beautiful rooms. The experience is still the same but the hotel has had a few face lifts over the years but the latest refurbishments is absolutely 1st class the decor is stunning. The bedrooms are well equipped with everything you’d want we stayed in room 34 Barrow and it was spacious, well decorated and spotlessly clean. Also had an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe and a fan if you felt the room was too warm. The gentleman on reception recognised us which was nice. The restaurant staff are very good and professional. Big shout out for the restaurant Manager and her husband, and I do hope they have a lovely holiday and come back refreshed to welcome the guests again. The only negative critique from me is the food. Breakfasts was amazing, but, I didn’t think the food at dinner was as good as it was on my previous visits. Don’t get me wrong we ate it, but I don’t think it was consistently good. But that is just my opinion. We are already looking forward to visiting again next year.

Stayed for one night, with my Mum as a treat for her for Mother's day present. The hotel itself is beautiful. It's in a lovely setting, the gardens are lovely and everything was 100% clean. We stayed dinner, bed and breakfast. The food was lovely. At dinner my Mum had the sea bass and I had fillet steak, followed by treacle tart and creme brulee. Breakfast once again, was lovely with an excellent choice on the menu. So now to the mixed bag part of my review. We stayed in walla crag, which is a superior room. The room itself was newly decorated and very clean...but..you can hear everything from the surrounding rooms. Just a normal conversation could be heard from one of the rooms very clearly. The bath running, the toilet flushing, some kind of noise that sounded like water hitting a drum at times. Also the room was too hot for us. We turned the radiators off and opened the windows but even so we didn't have a good nights sleep at all because of the heat the room obviously holds. We found one of the girls that was serving food and drinks very abrupt. We didn't see her smile once and were disappointed that the service didn't cone across in a friendly manner. The lady on reception was pleasant both when we arrived and also when I settled the bill, but upon leaving the hotel and handing the key back at reception my Mum and myself were both ignored by her and the girl that had served us at dinner and breakfast. As bid them farewell and thanked them for our stay but neither of them acknowledged us which to be honest after spending £346 for one night dinner, bed, breakfast, a bottle of wine and a couple of soft drinks, we thought it was rather rude as we walked out. The hotel is classified as a 3 star on booking.com and at first glance I couldn't understand why it wasn't a 5 star, but after having the full nights experience I understand now why. For dinner, bed and breakfast it was £298 on a Monday night and I think when I am paying that kind of money I expect 5 star service and unfortunately we didn't receive it.

Great hotel a bit away from town with very limited public transport options. Taxi ride costs 10 pounds one way to town. A word of caution - taxis may be hard to come by if you want to return to the hotel after dinner in town. The rooms are tiny, although with great views. It was a maze to get to the rooms as we had to negotiate multiple staircases. The staff was very helpful and warm. They helped us with the luggage when we got to the hotel. The breakfast service was excellent with a helpful staff and tables with great views! The hotel was absolutely clean and no complaints on that score. It has loads of free parking.

The hotel is so beautifully situated in marvellous grounds with no car in sight apart from the ones that are driving in or out of the hotel (ie – hotel residents), that in itself will set you up for a peaceful night’s sleep! There's plenty of parking, although we found that people without disability badges were parking in the disabled bays at the front of the hotel !
We stayed here for 2 nights in July and we stayed in Room 34. The room is a superior room on the 2nd floor, a little awkward to get to if you have mobility problems (up a flight of stairs, then down a few stairs, along a corridor, a few steps up, a few steps down etc etc).
The room itself is a large room with a huge comfy bed (2 single beds zipped together) with a massive en-suite with a lovely deep bath and a separate powerful shower. The towels are beautifully fluffy and you get complimentary shower gels and soaps etc. The room doesn’t have great views as it faces the roof of the swimming pool, but you can see some of the greenery especially if your lying on the bed looking out towards the window. The only thing I would say about our bedroom is that the walls are pretty thin and we could hear the resident next door opening and closing their cabinet drawers and also people walking outside (not because they were noisy, but cause of the creaking floorboards which was really really quite audible) – our bed was against the wall and so we could hear everyone who was passing by.
The bedroom has everything you could want - hairdryer, iron etc, TV ETC. The bedroom didn’t have tea and coffee facilities, BUT you could just call the Reception downstairs and they brought a lovely tray to you filled with an assortment as well as biscuits and it was replenished the next day.
We stayed for 2 nights and the room was cleaned to PERFECTION on the 2nd night so much so, it was like we were new guests.
Their guidelines etc with dining and entering the hotel and staying at the hotel is very much to be admired with hand sanitisers everywhere and I must say, the hotel, dining area and rooms are spotless. The swimming pool etc was closed due to the pandemic government guidelines, but it didn’t really bother us as there was plenty of things to do as Keswick was only a 10 minute drive away and Dodd Woods only 1 mile away for those who want to go out walking and looking for Osprey.
Restaurant - we ate here for breakfast for 2 mornings and for 1 eve meal. The food is superb. The waiting staff are fab, especially Emma (Hungarian Blonde Lady) always smiling and had a very warm nature and the gent who put us by the window this morning (thanks!) We ate off the set menu in the evening – the food was faultless as was breakfast.
The staff do everything they can to make your stay as memorable as possible and they certainly did for my birthday!!
We certainly will be returning:)

I am leaving a review for anyone dubious about going away during this covid situation as I was a bit apprehensive about being somewhere that people had been in and out of but the hotel was very efficient. Plenty of hand sanitisers, tables for eating are pre booked so they can sanitise and most importantly not a buffet breakfast. Made to order which is so much fresher and better. Room was spotless.
Staff are very pleasant. The young man on in the restaurant this morning (23rd August) had a really cheery happy temperament with great customer service. And he went to town on the cleaning of the table next to us! Good to see it being cleaned so well as it gives you assurance that you're in a clean place which at the moment is important. To me anyway!
Room clean stylish and functioned well. I have stayed at a hotel twice the price of this where the water in the bathroom barely ran and the bathroom was dated. This hotel was modern and fresh.
I can't really comment too much on the food because I just got a risotto which was lovely. My boyfriend got beef which he said was the best tasting beef he's ever had. Breakfast was generous and plentiful. And as I said not a buffet and proper coffee and drinks. We asked for beans and they didn't quibble over charging us more or that it was a problem just happily gave us them.
Would recommend. Very close to Keswick too 5 minute drive.
Thanks guys.

An interesting place to review and it is a shame that the food at times let it down and a few of the staff let down such a charming place . We booked a four day stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary , Initial impressions were great. room was good although having to ask to have new toilet rolls as room service didnt bother was a bit poor. First two days the food was of a very high quality . Third day I guess a different chef and it was not quite as good fourth day ( our anniversary ) we decided to have the fillet steak at a supplement ordered it rare as always when it arrived it had been sliced by the chef through the steak horizontally then one piece turned upside down so it appears as an almost raw steak on your plate. The presentation looked awful when challenged the waiter ( Dennis ) said that is how it should be served when i commented that in 40 years of eating out I had never seen that and to slice a fillet and let the juices run out of it was sacrilege , He clearly wasnt interested and was actually quite rude suggesting that I hadnt eaten out in the right places . During the day time the place is clearly understaffed I walked away from the bar on one occasion as the only member of staff in the place was on the phone to a customer after ten minutes I had enough waiting , She apologised later but at the prices they charge they could staff the place better. The place is at times clearly very good with a decent reputation but on what we saw it is not as good as the staff clearly think that it is , Obviously they think it so good that customers have no right to express when something is not right . On our last morning it was Dennis on the desk no smile not good morning no asking of we were happy with our stay just here is the Bill which for 4 nights was £1400 . He clearly didnt give a monkies if we were happy or not. So despite all the glowing reviews I wouldnt recommend especially if you want a decent fillet steak and polite service . I have rated the place poor in the hope that people read the review.

Response from David Lake, Owner at Lyzzick Hall Hotel

An interesting and mixed review. You mention that the hotel is charming, your room was good and the food served was of a very high quality. What seems to have caused an issue is that a toilet roll wasn't replaced on servicing your room. You didn't like the way the chef prepared your steak and you were disappointed with the way my manager, Dennis (not waiter) handled the matter. I apologise that on check out you felt it lacked warmth. However, you clearly point out "all the glowing reviews" we have at Lyzzick and this is for a very good reason. It is therefore extremely hurtful to my staff and myself that you feel the need to rate us as 'poor' in order to, as you put it, "hope that people read the review" I do think that comment says more about yourself, than it does about your stay. I will let the readers come to their own conclusions and hope you find a more suitable place for your next trip away.

It is some distance from Keswick. OK if you are on a walking holiday. Would probably need a taxi otherwise. However, this superb hotel is, in my opinion, worth this minor inconvenience
I have not been to Lyzzick since last year- our 30th annual visit but I do not recall seeing fridge's in the bedroom.
However, staff are always keen to be helpful and I feel confident that if you have material needing to be kept cool they would be happy to help. Prof Colin Pritchard
