We stayed here for three nights in early January. The outside is unassuming, but it is quite grand inside. We had the run of the place to ourselves and were well looked after by Carl. Breakfasts were good (fresh fruit with yoghurt was particularly nice treat) and it was nice having Carl sit with us. The strict 8 am breakfast...

We're grateful for these kind complements. We agree the lighting in that room could be better, and have brought in two additional wall lamps. We would differ with the term "strict" regarding our breakfast time: we explain at check-in that our chef-cooked, candle-lit morning meal is hottest and freshest when put on the table at 8 a.m., but we certainly...

This was our first stay at the C.A.House and its location was perfect for us. Additionally, the care shown us throughout was a treat, and particularly enjoyable was the opportunity to mingle with other guests and our thoughtful and helpful "concierge", Carl. Not only did he prepare delicious breakfasts, but engaged us in delightful conversation and recommendations. For those looking...

My colleagues and I stayed at the Chester Arthur House for a business trip. Upon our arrival, the proprietor, Don, greeted us warmly, gave us a tour of the house, and described the neighborhood. Breakfast in the mornings, cooked and served by two chefs, was creative, delicious, and unique every morning. Despite it being a chilly week in December, the...

We just returned to Alaska after spending a week at this great old house. Don, Carl and Eric will do a great job making you feel at home. Don't expect a run-of-the-mill hotel experience here ... it was fun staying in a place with real character. As others have pointed out, the location really is superb. It's a short walk...

We're so grateful for these nice words, and for all who’ve taken the time recently to let TripAdvisor fans know they had a good time here. Regarding breakfast time, we've found, over our more than 20 years in business, that roughly 8 a.m. is the time of choice for the overwhelming majority of guests. The precise time isn't set in...

It's not a chain hotel with cookie cutter rooms. Built in the year Chester Arthur was inaugurated with the public areas furnished in the style of that period, the upstairs rooms are more modern and bathrooms nice. No elevator so plan on stairs. Breakfast is very nice and served promptly at 8am--great time to visit with fellow travelers about what...

Excellent location, quiet, comfortable, and near many restaurant choices. Warm hospitality and great breakfast. Nice common areas for sitting and relaxing. We got to places around DC easily with Uber, never a long wait.

Great location for all the usual tourist venues plus the P Street and 14th eateries and entertainment. Firm bed, lots of hot water, tasty breakfast. Much fun and relaxation. The owner added much-appreciated details about having grown up in the District and his previous life as a White House correspondent. It added extra dimension to our thoughts about the recent...

Great old house in an excellent location, neighborhood is young and vibrant. You can walk to the museums etc. but it is a bit of a haul. Otherwise Uber. Breakfast each day was excellent. Can be a little noisy on the front side of the building if that bothers you.

My husband and I spent two days in DC and stayed at Chester Arthur. Lovely accommodations and Carl and Eric were great hosts. Our room was nice and large. Nice breakfast. My dad nay recommendation is that it would be nice to have a Keurig coffee maker available for coffee during non breakfast hours. They did have a tea pot...

We stayed in the Magnolia room which was just perfect for 4 nights. Carl and Eric were wonderful hosts - accommodating us vegans at breakfast and doing their utmost to make us feel welcome. The house is beautifully decorated and central - we could easily walk over to a Whole Foods and restaurants including Lalibela an Ethiopian place and Sweetgreen...
