I went to bed early to catch up on sleep and at around 10 pm the night manager knocked on the door and woke me up because, even though it was in the middle of our reservation, their computer system reported the room vacant and...More

Thank you for writing about the recent stay experience at our Hotel. I can understand your frustration in not being able to find accommodation that is suitable in the City. We are glad that our Hotel was perfect for your travel needs.
Spent 3 nights here. Was not the best location for the events I was attending in DC. The pool and hot tub was closed for repairs the entire time I was there. The gym was fine. Our room was okay but not great. The lobby...More

If you want the best Hilton property in town and best location. Please stay here. It was wonderful and the Cafe Deluxe next to the lobby is a perfect location to grab a cocktail before or after dinner.

I am surprised by the other answers here. The more accurate answer is that "it depends"--partly because the series of Smithsonian buildings is spread out across a large portion of Washington, DC. The main cluster of museums is between the Washington Monument and the Capitol building. It is about 2.2 miles from the Hilton Garden Inn to the Air and Space Museum and to the Smithsonian Castle. Thus, to be on the safe side, I would say it is about a 45 minute walk--once you take into consideration stops you have to make along the way because of cross walks. The Metro is a nice way to go if it is too hot or too cold to walk. Then, the best way to go is via Dupont Circle or Farragut North (both are about equidistant from the hotel) and then take them down to Metro Center, switch over to the Orange or Blue line and head to Smithsonian Station. I hope this helps.
