It was such a great family vacation! Our 3 kids had an amazing time in the kids program. The horse program is absolutely the best. All of the wranglers are so helpful. The entire staff at RTR are top notch for that matter. We had such a great time.

I try to go every year- it's always so hard to leave. I have been going since 2017 and it gets better every year. I dont know how the Van Berkums do it but they hore the best people, have the most excellent horses and really truly want each guest to have an incredible stay. They succeed at this in overwhelming excellent fashion. The accommodations from registration to paying the final bill are beyond amazing. The cabins while rustic are beautifully appointed with excellent linens, comfortable beds , wonderfully stocked fireplaces and great views. The meals are out of this world good comfort food for every single meal and all served by happy charming staff. It's just a great place to reboot. Activities range from excellent horseback rides almost every skill level on healthy, well taken care of horses to beautiful places to great fishing or beautiful hikes. Evening events are fun and optional but I highly recommend s'mores around the campfire and game night. All this is surrounded by the most amazing staff ever- people who are happy to be there, energetic, fun, helpful and just nice. The price includes horseback riding, three amazing meals everyday ( more than most can eat at each meal) a ton of activities each evening if you wish, a beautiful well maintained pool, fly fishing with guides and gear and accommodations all of the highest order. Whether you go with family or friends, you will leave with a happy heart and memories for a lifetime.

Rainbow Trout Ranch has just about everything you could want in a dude Ranch. the VanBerkum family is hands on in every aspect. The horses are wonderful, and you are matched up with the perfect horse. The rides are beautiful, varied, and you choose the level you are comfortable. We were a group of 7 and spent adult week at the ranch. We have been to other ranches, but we continue to come back to RTR. It isn't that the others weren't a good experience. It's because RTR has it all. The cabins are clean and comfortable, the food is delicious, the scenery beautiful, the horses are amazing and well taken care of, it's the best lodge you will ever see at a ranch, and the Family is just so welcoming. Can't go wrong with RTR.

The Rainbow Trout Ranch exceeded my expectations! All who worked at the ranch were friendly, helpful and absolutely great! Had numerous activities, family dining was fun but it was horseback riding that drew me to the ranch. The riding was great and the wranglers were super. Met people from all over the US, many of them who were repeat guests .... of which I plan to be a repeat guest as well.

My 6th visit in 6 years and I have already booked for next year as have my 7 friends who were there this year with me. That should tell you how much we all liked it. Spectacular riding! Spectacular owners and staff! Spectacular location! A great variety of food and plenty of it. Rocky Mountain nature at its best! I go to several guest ranches every year and this is by far one of my favorites!

Hey, Howdy Hey! Our family returned once again to Rainbow Trout Ranch last week (August 13-19, 2023). I note that I wrote a review in 2012 after our 6th visit to RTR. All of those points still apply. Over a decade later, our family looks forward to our vacation at the Ranch; one we have taken most every summer since 2006. This year is unique in its greenery and full Conejos and Elk Rivers, due to the very wet spring/early summer in Colorado. The moisture seems to draw the wildlife down, and we come across deer at many turns. I hear that one of the all day rides viewed a moose and its baby in the lake. I am surprised that a total of 5 of us at the ranch this week (which accommodates ~60 guests) are from Colorado. Why do we return each year? This has become a family tradition; a familiar place where we can reconnect with friends and family, meet interesting new people, enjoy the best of the outdoors, and get some exercise and sleep! Our horses are the BEST, and we love to improve our riding skills and connect with our horse for the week. In return, our horses do us the favor of walking, trotting, loping through the forests, streams, flower beds, up and down hills and trails, all through the beautiful wilderness. Our wranglers continue to provide a great experience up to twice per day on the trails. They are interesting people, and interested in getting to know us. The wranglers provide helpful instruction to improve our riding ability, and they keep us all safe on our rides. They know the vast country like the back of their hands, leading us through a new section of scenery for each ride. This year, our family for the first time had some dietary restrictions. The food prepared by trained chefs is always ample and delicious for three meals a day, but I couldn’t be more complimentary of the substantive efforts to help me and my son stay on track for our dietary and health needs. Thank you, Miss Meg, Caroline, and all the housekeeping and waitstaff for your support! After something like 16 visits over 18 years, our 7-year-old son now 24, nostalgia creeps into this review. Family rides, meals, and evening entertainment with our son, Reading a book in our cabin’s living room, by the light of the warm fire in the wood burning fireplace, before sliding into the comfy bed for a slumber with a cool mountain breeze in our bedroom; these are the traditions that persist. Sleep at 9000+ ft of altitude is the most restful of our year. We have made friends with guests, staff, and RTR family with whom we stay connected on social media and have visited across the country. RTR truly is a “Special Little Part of Colorado”, and has become a part of our family’s spirit.

Our family visited Rainbow Trout Ranch for the ninth time. As always, it was a wonderful vacation of riding, fishing, hiking, relaxing, and unplugging. The Van Berkum family and their amazing staff immediately make you feel like family (hence the multiple return guests). The horse program for adults and children is amazing - horses matched perfectly with each guest. The location in the San Juan valley is stunning, the ranch lodge one of the more beautiful buildings you’ll see out west, and all the cabins clean and comfy. For our family, the amazing staff makes the ranch experience the most memorable - they are all warm, friendly, hard working, interesting, super fun and among people. Our family always comes back from Rainbow Trout Ranch totally recharged, relaxed, and excited to come back next year.
