We just returned from 5 nights at the Maya Mountain Lodge. What a wonderful location in the forest waking up each morning to the calls of a variety of birds! Our economy cottage was great and had plenty of room inside as well as a patio with two chairs and a hammock for

This place is for sale and therefore they are using bare minimum effort and costs. The rooms are filthy- the service is terrible and the location felt like being trapped in a mosquito sanctuary - it was HORRIBLE. Our family travels to Belize twice and year and we thought we

This is the third "Terrible" post by the same lady in the past 6 months but using a different email each time. Trip advisor has been notified of the vengeful attacks by this IT specialist who we had to fire in June 2018. We are waiting on a reply from TripAdvisor. Readers can easily see comments by others who are here at the same time that these statements are untrue. It is very disturbing to both staff and owners that this is allowed as they all work so hard to provide a wonderful experience for our guests. The comments above are simply not found in the comments of other guests.

Beautiful mountain hideaway nestled in the jungle of Santa Elena, very close to many amazing Mayan Ruins! The owner, however, creeps around the property looking over his staff’s shoulders and constantly talks to the guests only about himself while trying to up-sell the

A wise person once said: "Don't criticize another person unless you have walked a mile in his shoes". The person who wrote this criticism of the owner/manager obviously doesn't know me. My wife and I are known for training and have a great success record over 36 years in Belize moving people from waiters upwards into management or whatever is their calling. We have chosen to give many young people a chance to start their careers. This has not been an easy path. Mentoring and training take a lot of time and energy, however, it benefits the new employee and the greater society. Mentoring does require a presence as does quality assurance... especially when utilizing inexperienced young staff. The employees at the Maya Mountain Lodge are paid better than the norm in Belize. Our lowest paid worker earns at least 50% more than minimum wage. Additionally, each gets an equal portion of the 10% gratuity charged guests on food and lodging. We have often chosen to employ staff during the low season when many other places dismiss their employeesl This policy has cost the lodge much of its profit. These choices have benefited the families who depend on the lodge for basic needs. Any assumption that this lodge is making a large profit is simply incorrect and unfair. We are proud of the products that the owners and staff have developed and we are pleased to promote them. Guests usually appreciate and understand that our passion is genuine. We trust the many positive comments that are posted here on TripAdvisor and truly enjoy our work and service to our guests while they are on their vacation to Belize.

Can you take the bus to get to this hotel?
We didn't rent a car in Belize, but used Discount Belize Shuttle for transport from Belize City to San Ignacio (and other travel while there). I highly recommend them if you want prompt, reliable, and responsive service while traveling in Belize. Their vans were really nice, and they can deliver you door to door from anywhere in the country.

what is the best way to get to the hotel from the airport in Belize city?
Hi, There are several ways to get to the Lodge from the airport, however, I would recommend a transfer provided by the lodge. The rate for a oneway transfer is US$67.50 per person including 12.5%GST. Let me know if you would like to confirm this service. All the best, Terry Hales, Reservations Manager, Maya Mountain Lodge
