Dar Hafsa is a traditional 19th century Morocccan home. Recently renovated, the house is a beautiful example of fine Moroccan craftsmanship. The ornate tile work and painted doors reflect the best in cultural design. An open floor plan with multiple indoor balconies gives the house a cozy feeling, but not at the expense of privacy. A roof-top terrace offers an expansive view of the Fes Medina and the Riff Mountains. This lovely accommodation is seven minutes from the Blue Gate (Bab Bouljoud), and a simple right-hand turn from the main street (derb sidi safi souiket ben safi talaa sghira) and souk. It is situated on a quiet, clean byway. Those looking for a more authentic Fes stay will find themselves a reasonable distance from hustle and bustle of the shopping and trade. You will feel welcome at Dar Hafsa by the family who manages the guest house, Mariam and Aziz and their parents. They are friendly and generous. English, French, and Arabic languages are spoken well, along with some Spanish and German. Your comfort and satisfaction is assured, and the family can share their local knowledge to enrich your stay.

Dar Hasfa is clean and comfortable, well presented and true to the pictures you see in Trip Advisor. This is not a hotel but a family home so my 5 stars is based on that as I was not expecting a 5 star hotel for the price I paid. There is some noise when other guests are coming/going but that is what you’d expect in a house and at no time was it disruptive. The owner Abdul Karim had Mohammed meet me at the Blue Gates so I wouldn’t get lost. Karim gave me lots of help understanding how to make my way around, interesting sites to visit and tips on bartering with salespeople. The breakfast was huge and kept me going all day until dinner. Karim arranged a guide, Redouand, who spent a day with me showing me the sites including ceramic making, rugs and weaving. Whilst I did buy some things there wasn’t a lot of pressure and I felt I could easily have walked away if I’d wanted to. The highlight was my day with Redouand exploring the old Médina’s many streets and sites - the day your cost 400 dirham. If you want the fancy stuff with your accommodation this isn’t the place for you - this is more like a bed and breakfast - good price and great location from blur gates. Karim has a new place that I visited Riad Sidrat Fes that has recently opened and I visited which is managed by his daughter Miriam. It is beautifully presented and more up market than Dar Hafsa. One suggestion I think it would be good to have a bottle of water in the room on arrival or filtered water available to fill drink bottles given tourists aren’t recommended to drink the tap water.

Embarking on my inaugural sojourn to Dar Hafsa, I found myself captivated by the allure of this hidden gem in Fes. The initial draw was the compelling hospitality of my host, Abdul Karim and his son Aziz, and their genuine warmth and invaluable guidance about Fes set a beautiful tone and one that was only going to get better.

Entering the room, I discovered a harmonious blend of simplicity and spotless cleanliness. The tasteful decor heightened the overall experience, while the inclusion of air conditioning proved to be a thoughtful touch. Navigating the Medina's labyrinthine streets, Dar Hafsa's strategic location just off the main shopping thoroughfare offered both convenience and a reassuring sense of safety, especially during late-night returns.

Abdul Karim, Aziz and the wonderful Mounir, orchestrated a symphony of hospitality, where no request seemed too much to handle. The rooftop terrace afforded breathtaking panoramic views, a serene retreat from the hustle below. Breakfast, a delightful introduction to local flavors, added to the charm of each morning. The women who are making the breakfast and cleaning the rooms are also full of light and will always greet you with the most heart warming smile and greetings.

The people of Fes have special hearts and if you stay at Dar Hafsa and sit with Abdul Karim, Aziz and Mounir, you will be blessed to see the spirituality and kindness and love of God within them and living in the west it is quite rare to sit with such special people with deep insights on living.

Considering future visits to Fes, the prospect of staying at Dar Hafsa or exploring Riad Sidrat Fes, which is the sister Riad not too far from Dar Hafsa and is managed by the same family, feels very exciting. After visiting, it is also a breathtaking place to stay. You will have no issues in communication as Abdul Karim, Aziz and Mounir are all top tier English, French, Spanish and Italian speakers. For a first-time visitor, Dar Hafsa emerges as the best choice, promising an authentic and memorable experience in the heart of Fes.

It started with a warm welcome outside the medina, where Junis, who is working at Dar Hafsa picked me up in the middle of the night after the house organised a taxi to bring me from the airport to just around there (20€). He took my heavy luggage and guided me through the confusing alleys of Fes Medina. The location is one of the best: in the middle of all just 5 minutes to Bab Boujeloud and restaurants, 1 minute to the shops and ATM. Close enough to get everything what you need and far enough from the bustling noise. It's just a quite place and by the way it has one of the highest roof tops in town with an amazing view over the Medina. The arriving in the house in the middle of the night was as warm and the owner by himself welcomed me with a hot mint tea :D. The owner used the time of Corona lock-down to renovate the house fully. And it reopened just in April 2022. You can see and smell everything is newly made and lovely decorated with morrocan tiles and flowers. I had a beautiful room with double bed and a window to the roof top. You can use the aircondition in the room as a heater, when you are travelling in colder times. My room and the whole house was super super clean – the linnen and towels blending white and the whole room is well and warmly decorated in morrocan style. Junis, who works here is a perl by his self and he will help and support you in any way. He will answer your amount of questions and you will get everything what you need. :D as well you can ask the whole family .. everyone is speaking english and french fluently here. At least but not last the breakfast: It's a huge morrocan breakfast with a big choice of breads, olives, honey, jam, cheese and an orange juice, coffee as much as you like (and I need a lot). For my female fellowship: it was no problem to reach the house by day or in the evening. As you can read, I really can recommend Dar Hafsa. I stayed here 4 nights and 5 days (while Ramadan, what was even more special). Just enjoy ...

This riad had an excellent ranking on Trip Advisor and we agree that this beautiful traditional Moroccan home will not disappoint for a few nights' stay in Fez. The location is good. It's quiet at night, clean, and has fast internet. There are many beautiful riads and hotels in Morocco yet this one stands out because of the owners who really care about their guests. We were stuck in Morocco (Fez) due to the border closing on account of the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-March 2020. Our flight was cancelled a couple times and we had no clue how long we'd have to stay in Morocco before being able to secure a flight out. We were the only guests of the Dar Hafsa. Fez shut down, with the airport, hotels, restaurants, tourists sights, and markets closing. Mr. Abdul Karim (the riad owner) allowed us to stay at the riad as long as we needed to. He kept the riad running for us so that we had our daily cleaning and our breakfast made. In the evenings, Mr. Abdul arranged so that we'd have a traditional dinner prepared by his wife. He also visited frequently to see if we needed anything. We felt like we were friends with Mr. Abdul rather than his riad guests. We spent some extra days in Fez before we were able to catch a flight to London and then Toronto. We plan on going back one day just to visit Mr. Abdul and thank him once again for being a great host and person.

Dar Hafsa is conveniently located in a quiet street of the Medina. Owner and staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and picked us up at the gate of the Medina to show us the way to the place. The breakfast is plentiful with fresh juice, different kinds of bread, and yoghurt. Everything is very clean; beds are comfortable and the whole place is very nicely decorated with great attention to detail. The rooftop terrace was also very nice.

I arrived late in the day and was welcomed immediately. The room was extremely comfortable with everything provided for, including traditional black soap.
I had to leave early in the morning and thought I would miss breakfast but the owner organised a small travel bag of Moroccan food and fruit for me which was very generous.
I was also walked to a very nice and cheap dinner spot and had all my questions answered helpfully.
Could not recommend more, I very much enjoyed my stay.

We stayed two nights in Dar Hafsa. The owner met us outside the medina, at the Blue Gate, and guided us through the busy streets. The Dar is quiet, comfortable, very clean and conveniently located by the Main Street, which makes it easy to go back to after a day in the Medina labyrinth. The breakfast was a feast, with way too much food for two.
The owner booked us an official guide for one of our days, so we could wander around and learn more about the history of the city. We recommend you bring cash, as the credit card machine is not always available. Great experience overall!

Wonderful stay - highly recommend!!! From arranging transportation to / from airport; arranging a guide for a Medina tour; providing bountiful breakfasts; suggesting great restaurants and location of a panoramic view of the city, etc, etc the owners and staff went above and beyond our expectations.

Our stay in a deluxe twin was great. The owner was so kind as well to show us the recently completed expansion of the Dar to add more rooms and common spaces. The work was completed during the pandemic and we enjoyed our peaceful breakfast in the common area.

Abdulkarim, Aziz, Eounice and all the staff were so friendly and helpful - we felt like we were at home there.

This is my second stay at Dar Hafsa in 4 years. One of the plus points to me when I first booked 4 years ago was the relative ease of finding the Dar in the Medina of Fes. It’s just off one of the main streets winding down the Medina. Once you’ve found it, it’s very easy to locate again especially at night. On my arrival first time Abdul met my Taxi at a convenient spot and brought me straight to it. Having experienced the wonderful hospitality of the owner Abdul Karin on my previous stay I was determined to revisit if I ever returned to Fes. I was welcomed back this time like family. During Covid Abdul and his son Aziz acquired the next door property and extended the Dar further so it now encompasses 2 houses. The decor has been done in such beautiful taste as you can see from the pictures that it feels like it was always part of the same house. Having stayed previously and experiencing the homelike hospitality extended by Abdul I was even further impressed when I returned at the beautiful artistic decorations and ambience of this Dar. The breakfast was very nice and the standard of cleanliness mean’t I never had to be concerned about getting ill. Each day there’s a cleaning lady that will also come and clean your room unless you request otherwise. What really stands out to me personally though is the hospitality of Abdul and now his son Aziz. How hard they work for their clientele and how they suggest to you to the best places to eat and will arrange anything that you require. I was always sceptical of suggestions from owners wondering if they were out to fleece you. Personally having followed their suggestions and letting them arrange various excursions I’ve always found them to be great value, even pointing out places cheaper than the normal Tourist prices. I get the feeling that they are well respected in the Medina and personally I’ve never fallen I’ll by eating at any of the places they’ve suggested. In fact one of the best Tajines I had on my trip was at a place they recommended and the price was cheaper than what I was used to paying in Tourist Morocco. If I ever come again to Fes I will definitely be either visiting the Dar Hafsa or possibly the Riad Sidrat managed by Abdul’s daughter. Each person has there own preference and on a personal level Ican say I thoroughly enjoyed my few days at the Dar Hafsa and would have no hesitation recommending it to any friends who might want to visit Fes.

We’ve travelled to 40 countries and the this was the best service we’ve experienced from a hotel. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, and that we had the best experience of Fes. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated, the room was very clean and spacious and we very much enjoyed drinking mint tea on the roof terrace each evening. We booked an airport taxi, tour of Meknes and Volubilis, and a full day tour of the medina through the hotel and everything was super. We would definitely recommend staying here and thank you again to the staff.
