Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This place is totally rundown. The service is poor, The food has a poor quality, The owner himself is rude and unprofessional. Don't go there. They charge 3 times higher for a bottle of beer.  The entire place including rooms needs a major left and repair.

Stayed three nights and was treated like royalty. Breakfast was fantastic and the one dinner we had was great too. Our room was clean and well supplied. Marcus was always available, friendly, and very helpful. His staff was helpful as well.

The building and decorations are breathtaking but the service it leaves much to be desired. We were a group of 7 included 2 couples. Our room was tiny and smelled humid but in the others couple room sheets wasn’t cleaned as they found dried semen on it before get in bed, also towels and robes where not clean. We decided to ate in the restoran inside the hotel but they came really late with our dinner and personally asked for a dish with beef and they send me lamb (it tasted like lamb very strongly and I’m allergic)

This is the best place to stay in fez. The decor is better than any photo can show. The food is amazing and we had the greatest server, Mohammed. While we usually stay simple with our cocktails when traveling through Morocco we had mojitos here and they were fantastic. Definitely try the cous cous and chicken pastille. Yum yum

We booked a 4 night stay on expedia.com with quite a fair price for a short stay with our 1 year old son and paid the full amount, a month before the trip. 3 days before the first night the hotel cancelled the reservation, "at our request" mentioned the email, and they sent the money back. Immediately, the room was proposed at a price 5 times more higher that what we have initially paid. This is just fraudulent behaviour .. Fes got busy in this period and they knew they could get more on that room. Be aware that if you book there, unless you pay 500€/night they will cancel your reservation just before you arrive, good luck for finding last minute accomodation in Fes.

The Sheherazade is certainly not five star. It is more like a three-star Tomb. With spectacular internal Moroccan ceramic-decorated walls, it is silent and soulless and empty and has no atmosphere. No reception desk to help or provide information or leaflets or make bookings, no bar for talking with other guests, a small chilly unused swimming pool in the courtyard. In our room the water for washing was never hot, only tepid and when we became the only guests in the hotel, the water was stone cold and we were told it would take 20 minutes to warm it up. The Safe in our room had no battery. Twice the television did not work until we asked for help. There was no handbook of instructions about how to operate tv or make phonecalls, or about places to visit in Fez and outside. We wondered if the creased sheets on the bed were new. Our room was cleaned every day with fresh towels. Wifi was weak throughout hotel. Staff were scarce but when you could find someone they were friendly and eager to please, but most with only broken English. The Hotel is apparently owned by a local rich male, but it desperately needs updating and needs international knowhow and needs makeover and needs modernisation or it will be soon defeated by other modern hotels nearby. We would not have booked it at all but were misled by a recommendation by an American Travel association.

This hotel was booked by Gate 1 as part of the Moroccan tour. There was a last minute change to this hotel as the other hotel was overbooked. The whole place looked like it needed maintenance. Our room had a bad odor when we walked in and there was no electricity. The hotel does not have its own backup generator. The staircase going up to the third floor was dark and narrow. Overall not impressed by this place.

I am the publisher of CONSUMER BEWARE!, a column distributed to 800+ newspapers throughout the U.S. (40 million readers). We were a group of fourteen traveling throughout Morocco on a Collette Tour. The following is an excerpt of my column: We continued our trip to Fez where we would spend three nights at the Palais Sheherazade & Spa. You couldn’t get to the hotel by bus because the street was too narrow. We had to walk about six blocks to get to this isolated hotel. Pictures of this hotel online were beautiful showing magnificent pools, columns, lavish rooms and boasting 5 stars in its literature. In reality, those pictures and reviews were twenty years old and this hotel didn’t deserve even one star. Believe me, this is no palace. It might have been the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We thought it may just be our room but we were transferred into four different rooms and they went from bad to worse including broken air conditioners, broken tvs, broken phones, cockroaches, filthy bathrooms with mold, no lights, non-working elevators, no toilet paper, unswimable pools with mold everywhere and green water and the list goes on and on. We spoke with four other members of our tour group who had the same experience in trying to find an acceptable room. There were none. A hotel employee told us that five tour directors have told Collette to discontinue using this hotel but they haven’t. And when I met with the owner of the hotel to tell him that I’m doing an international review of his hotel and all of its issues, he told me to be sure to spell his name right. It’s “ABDLHAY BEN GHAZI”! I hope you’re happy now, Mr. Ben Ghazi. None of us were. And we hope Collette will do the right thing and discontinue using your hotel. They’ve had two months since my article went out and they are still using this poor excuse for a hotel through 2025 in their literature. Many people in our group developed stomach problems and feel it may have been caused by Ben Ghazi’s dirty kitchen. Note to Collette: What are you waiting for? Right where the bus parked to let us out to walk six blocks is a beautiful new hotel within walking distance of stores and restaurants. We checked and the rates were less than the Palais Sheherazade & Spa. We all wished we could have stayed there. With the exception of the Palais Sheherazade, Fez was great!

Unfortunately, there were some problems with our four-night stay at the Palais Sheherazade and I don't think I would recommend this as a place to stay to other people. The first problem was that when we checked in and went into our room we found that there were no toiletries in the bathroom, but there was a dirty water glass. Also, one of the duvet covers had black streaks on it. Then as our stay progressed we noticed things like holes in the seat cushions of the outdoor cafe area. The final issue we encountered was that in the middle of the night the AC unit started making a loud, grinding noise and shut off. The staff was always apologetic and did fix everything, but with the price and rating of this hotel we expected a better experience.

This wonderful riad is centrally located in Fes, close to many restaurants. Our room on the 3rd floor was lovely with a big, comfortable bed. The riad itself is gorgeous. So much character with a welcoming interior square and pool. Aside from the surroundings, the staff were excellent, friendly and looking to help you in any way. We ate lunch in the restaurant one day and it was delicious. Breakfast was also very good - too much food but this seems to be a pattern in the better riads in Morocco. Definitely recommend staying here.
