Now, I’m not sure the record of writing a late review, but this is long overdue! We went to Fawakay Villas in May 2019. It was amazing! Yes truly. There are four of us. Two grown-ups and two small people (3 and 7). The place is a cross between a hotel, a villa and staying at a friend’s house. Stuff you need to know. Kiddies pool and big pool. Oodles of sun loungers and places to chill. Bar, restaurant - places to squirrel yourself away. Gardens are lovely sculptures by Dawn are cool. When we went it was pretty quiet, but we were made so welcome by Frances and Dawn. You have food in your villa for breakfast. Different each day, lots of fruit, pancakes, toast and different eggs,. We tended to be out for lunch. For dinner we ate at Fawakay Villas where the food is cooked by local ladies and is absolutely amazing. All fresh, all home made, all delicious Moroccan food. Fresh water from the filtered Well and Moroccan Rose (actually pretty bloody good) and beer form the bar (well stocked and “honesty” whilst we were there as quiet). We spent our day lounging by the pool or chilling in the villas, being interrupted by donkeys which the girls loved or getting a taxi into Marrakesh. All very easy and arranged by Frances and Dawn. Frances as a host is absolutely charming and helped us arrange loads of trips and give us practical advice as slightly nervous brits with small kids. It’s about 20 minutes in a cab. But you know what, it’s a fun taxi ride as there is plenty to see. It is a lovely, charming place to stay. Full of sunshine. Full of fun. It’s charming, shabby chic, donkeys wander in and try and eat your breakfast. However, if you like us, want something as bit different, a bit fun, a bit quirky, but with good food, good company, good wine, you should maybe go. P.s - sorry this is such a late review - been on the to do list and has taken a global pandemic lock down for us to do it! - apologies. When it’s all over - we’ll be back!!…
We got married at Fawakays in June 2019, and it couldn't have been more perfect. We had visited Fawakays the year before and instantly fell in love with the venue and with Dawn (Francis wasn't there at the time). The wedding planning was pretty easy despite the distance; I had a lot of big ideas and Dawn was great at managing them as she doubles up as an on the ground planner, so that was really helpful. The weekend itself was incredible, we had amazing food, fire dancers, and drinks- what more do you want at a wedding. They also helped us organise a pool party/BBQ on a Sunday to help our guest recover from the hangover. Dawn, Francis and their son Ziggy (star of the show) were great hosts, and our guests loved their hospitality throughout the weekend. I would definitely recommend Fawakays as a wedding venue and as a holiday. We can't wait to return.…
I have recently returned from a retreat at Fawakay Villas. I needed some space and blue skies to recover from a year of battering events.....what a place to soothe the soul. Dawn and Francis are the perfect welcoming hosts, nothing was too much trouble. My villa rooms were extermely comfortable and I loved the log fire that was lit every afternoon to take the chill of the autumn air. The food was freshly cooked and extermely tasty. Exercise classess were on the terrace roof overlooking the Atlas Mountains, what a view! Additional treatments were on offer and the Hammam bath and massage was also good for unknotting and relaxing. Beautiful grounds, peaceful, well kept and so many birds to watch hopping around and then there were the donkeys roaming around, very friendly and liked apples!! I would recommend and hope to go back again next year for a little slice of peace and tranquillity. …
We had a wonderful weekend at Fawakay as a family of 4, including two kids aged 9 and 5. A short flight from the UK and we were met by a driver at the airport organised through Fawakay. Fawakay is a fantastic way to see Marrakech with kids because it’s an oasis outside of the hustle and bustle of the Medina. It is very laid-back and relaxed with a real focus on children and families. There are children menus, high chairs, baby baths, lots of pool toys, lots of toys and games to play including Table Tennis, football goal and a great grassed space to play and run around. There is also an area for arts/crafts, toys etc right near dining space which is fantastic to give something for younger kids to do once they are sick of sitting at the table for dinner. Also heated pool (larger pool), the smaller toddler pool isn’t heated. Meal times are completely flexible and organised day prior for breakfast and on the day for lunch and dinner. We ate dinner at Fawakay each night and we loved it - amazing flavours for the adults and the option for plain food but high quality for the kids if less adventurous. Also lovely desserts. Would highly recommend dinners. Breakfast is fairly simple more than a continental but not quite the big breakfast. Breakfast is delivered to your villa and dinner can also be eaten in your villa. We ate in the shared dining/lounge space and also alfresco near the pool. We also had afternoon tea - quite a simple fair - muffins, biscuits - not the cream cakes/scones and cream style. Drinks alcoholic and non alcoholic available all day. Lovely fresh juices and mock-tails. We organised two adventures through Fawakay - the first was half day in the Medina with a guide - this was great but we didn’t need more than half day with the kids. Second was a trip out to the Atlas Mountains which was our favourite activity. Well worth the 1.25 hrs drive to get there. Lovely scenery and a great walk/easy hike to see some waterfalls. We stayed in the garden villa. Great for family as it has two room close together and dining / lounge space and garden etc. Bathroom is very simple - shower only but baby bath available. Would recommend transfers and activities organised through Fawakay - they were all private tours which meant we could dictate stops and also not having to do some of the usual trips to different shops to be pressured to buy local products. Dawn and Francis are fantastic hosts and this feels more like staying with family than at a hotel. Having said that, we felt we could determine the amount we engaged with our hosts and with other guests - it felt very private if you wanted it to be. Staff are very attentive and wanting to help. This is not a 5* resort but it has a customer focus which is aligned with that level of accommodation. I would have rated our garden villa about 4 stars equivalent in hotel language. It’s got an organic and rustic feel not a polished and chain feel. …
We had our wedding at Fawakay Villas at the beginning of October. We visited a year and a half prior and immediately knew we had found such a special and unique place and couldn't wait to share it with our friends and family! The wedding completely exceeded our expectations. Fawakay catered for a large group of very diverse people, ranging from very young to old. We had our children with us, a 1 year old and 4 year old. The 4 year old absolutely loved the pool and children's area with arts and crafts. They cater well for babies, being able to make fresh baby food. There are also toys, travel cots, high chairs etc. Leading up to the wedding day, Dawn and Francis met with us to plan the day. We were able to hand over to Dawn all the wedding decorations, table plans etc that we had bought over and she took control of it all for us, so we were able to enjoy our holiday before the wedding! Francis met with us numerous times, planning re-assuring, answering all questions. The wedding day itself was just more than we could of ever imagined! Their recommendations for a photographer, hair dresser, entertainment, cake etc were all absolutely amazing. The food was delicious, we had so many comments. We had a beautiful ceremony on the roof terrace, which Dawn decorated with roses. We also had a pool party and bbq the day after the wedding. Again, the food was delicious and everyone enjoyed playing table tennis, pool games or lazing in the beds dotted around or getting henna done! . So many of our friends and family have said they want to go back. Francis was absolutely amazing with all the guests- on hand all the time to arrange taxi's, share local knowledge or have a chat! We truly cannot thank Francis and Dawn enough, and of course Ziggy for the most beautiful wedding at Fawakay Villas. Matt and I look forward to visiting again for our anniversary!…
