My trip to Riad Chayma in May 2020 was cancelled due to Covid 19 travel restrictions. The Riad refused to give me a refund but offered the chance to re-book within the next 18 months. I have tried to contact them to re-book many times and they haven’t replied to any of my messages! Untrustworthy

Set in the heart of the Medina Riad Chayma is an oasis of beauty, on arrival having to walk through part of the Medina to get there you actually wonder what have you let yourself in for but the moment the front door opens the relief is huge, you couldn't have chosen a more beautiful Riad with beautiful furnishings and an aura of calm. We had ordered a meal for our late arrival and it didn't disappoint, a chance to try local food highlight being the delicious lamb tagine, it was all beautifully cooked. Rooms are beautiful laid out and have everything you need. The breakfast was amazing, order the homemade muesli the night before, it was so good, lots of good food including fruit to set you up for the day and served on the roof top terrace, with the sun shining breakfast was a lovely experience. There are also comfy loungers for an extra bit of sunbathing should you want to. The Riad is placed ideally in the Medina and easy to walk to all the main sights, its hectic and the smells are amazing but the Riad is an ideal place to return to at the end of the day. A special mention for Mohammed who is a huge asset to the Riad, nothing was too much trouble for him and he made sure everything was perfect for our stay. It was lovely to see his smiling face every day. Mohammed also took us out for the day and he is a great driver and we had a great day. The other staff were also very helpful. I would highly recommend a stay at Riad Chayma and hope to return one day.

We were met by a smiling Mohammed at the airport and taken to the Médina, where Adii walked up to meet us and walked us down to the Riad. We stayed for 5 nights in the Orange room which is on the ground floor. It can be noisy at times when people come in in the evening. The Riad has 5 room, 2 on the ground floor and 3 on the second floor. Breakfast can be taken on the roof terrace. The Bircher Muesli (ordered the day before) is so lovely and everyday we had different bread, pancakes and other interesting things. The fresh fruit, yoghurts, jams, honey, cream cheese, yogurts and if you want omelettes were so good. Thank you to Meriem. The staff are so friendly and very helpful. We did a 1/2 day walking tour with Aziz on our first morning which was very useful and interesting - highly recommended. Mohammed was particularly lovely and always smiling. It was lovely to spend a day with him going to Ourika. We learnt so much about his way of life and family as well. I think I asked too many questions!! We had a guide, Said, at Setti Fatima to take us up to the waterfalls which was very useful. We visited a pottery place, a Berber house where we had mint tea and various stops to take photos. Lunch was at the side of the river and was rustic and very tasty. It was all very bizarre sitting on multicoloured sofas by the river, which is not set up for tourists but for people from Marrakesh who want to escape the heat as it’s 10 degrees cooler. Would definitely stay there again.

The TA reviews showed this to be a very good riad, well managed and staffed. Unfortunately for us it was the manager’s day off. You only get one chance of a welcome and his deputy did it to the best of his ability. We ordered in advance a dinner to save having to venture out into the unknown at night. A second unfortunate, the riad didn’t get the information due to a 'technical fault' with the owner's computer. This is a lovely riad but set in the middle of a very busy souk...it was, as others have reviewed, initially quite a culture shock. But it didn’t take long to become accustomed to a very different way of life The bedroom was delightful and being able to get extra lighting at the beside did help reading at night. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. The breakfasts were first class and served in the sun on the beautiful roof terrace. There was a range of very comfortable sun beds and settees to relax on. The staff team worked diligently to provide good customers care demonstrating their desire to ensure a pleasant stay.

Set just inside the Medina, Riad Chayma is an oasis surrounded by the chaotic life that exists within the old town. Upon arrival you may wonder what you have let yourself in for. The narrow street along which you approach is filled with street vendors, small stores and throngs of people who seemingly go about their business oblivious to the Motorcycles that weave between them. The noise and rich smells add to the atmosphere and you sense that you have stepped into a world that has barely changed in centuries. Beyond the heavy wooden entrance lies a truly beautiful Riad with lovely furnishings and marble floors with the serenity of a place to worship. The staff are attentive and quietly spoken with an attention to detail that can not be bettered. The breakfast that is served on the roof terrace is basic yet fresh and well presented. The terrace has nice sun loungers and cushions and is the perfect spot to capture the afternoon sun We travelled as three guys on a weekend trip to enjoy some mountain cycling and the odd beer or two. We did possibly make more late night noise than is acceptable, however the manager dealt with the situation perfectly and we responded accordingly. A perfect spot to stay with the person you love, but understand the frenetic world that exists on the doorstep it may not be for everyone. Highly recommended but to enjoy it fully do try and avoid the next time we visit . 10 out of 10.
