Not inexpensive, but honestly the best accommodation we've ever had. To describe this hotel as clean and comfortable would be a huge understatement - it is just incredible - like having your own palace! My husband's health means he needs to rest a lot and mustn't get too much sun, so it was ideal to have somewhere so luxurious to just relax and lie in the shade on our own balcony overlooking the beautiful pool.

The downside is that there a is a courtesy car in and out of town about four times daily, but the last one back to the hotel is 6pm, so if you go out for dinner after 6 you need to pay about twenty dirhams for a taxi back.  The hotel restaurants are expensive at around £40pp for dinner, so it would cost a lot to eat there every evening. We did have one evening meal in the hotel which was lovely, but other guests agreed that were the prices slightly reduced, like us, they'd have been happy to book a meal at the hotel every evening.  However, with such delicious and ample breakfasts we usually skipped lunch, so meals were less of an issue.

The  hotel seemed very quiet for August which was lovely for us as we felt like the only guests! You could go all day and only see a handful of other people. We also liked that although it is luxurious it isn't stuffy in any way and the staff can't do enough to help you. They are absolutely wonderful, as other reviewers have said.

Would also recommend checking out Trip Advisor to book an excursion with Faim D'epices (A Moroccan cookery day) which  was excellent fun and only around £50 pp.

We had the most wonderful week in Marrakech and could happily have stayed in and around this beautiful hotel for a further week.

Thank you so much to all the staff of the Taj Palace for the most memorable holiday.

I had the chance of staying at the Taj for two nights. The hotel and service were simply superb.
From the arrival to the check out everything was perfect. A great hotel with an outstanding decoration and a superb and extremely efficient service.
We have booked a "standard" room in the main building. What a nice surprise to see that your standard room is approximately 80 meters square.
In the room there are complimentary "Hermes" brand amenities...
I will definitely stay over at the Taj on my next visit to Marrakesh.
Thank you again to all the Taj team!

We booked and pay with a travel agency. We arrived at the hotel and at first were received by the person in charge, who kindly showed our room. We signed a guarantee of MAD 5000.
Then in the room, he explained that the Nespresso ( with missing pieces and dirty water and with insects) , had only 2 capsules, but were for the total of our staying (5 nights), we after realize that the frigobar was empty, it only had a water bottle already opened and with some water inside, who knows how long it was there.
The pool was dirty, it had an old cel phone in it! The spa and gym closed.same as other parts of the hotel... Closed and dirty with dust that seemed there from a long time.
Grass and all without maintenance. Other dirty pool, smaller was with people, which we thought were guests, but were employees.
The few employees we saw, told us that the restaurants were closed and we should talk to the concierge, but at 4:30pm he was already gone. Also that they were informed that we would not have breakfast at the next day (also paid). There were only a family as guests, with them we took a taxi to the nearest restaurant in a hotel and called to the travel agency, that decided to arrange all to change us to other hotel.
After dinner we went back and still no one to do check out and speak of these issues.
Since that day 13/7, we've been calling and no one answer the phone. It have been past 3 days and we neither have answers to our emails.
So, we have lost a full day of our vacations, spent time and money to go to dinner to a different place, we are still worried because of the lack of answers and afraid to pay again a taxi to go there to solve this, and find (again), no person in charge to give us back what we signed.
For the high cost and beautiful place that was in the past, I understand that it could be closed for manteinance and open with splendor and a good service.
We are aware that also the employees have problems, but it would be better if they cancelled us the booking made some months earlier and let us have a good vacation and a better image of the Sahara Palace Marrakech...

I stayed here last month and was significantly underimpressed. The view/ hotel looks great, but below the surface I would never consider it a 5* hotel. Everything is overpriced (both the price is too high as you would expect at a 5* hotel, but you would not expect the quality to be lacking as much as this one does), bad and arrogant staff. The shuttle service is nice, but runs till 5 only; basically 'forcing' you to have dinner at the hotel (taxis work just fine, but it's about the principle... why would you stop the service at 5 when you know people will be wanting to spend an evening in Marrakech? reason: so they can sell more dinners at the hotel). Parts of the hotel are closed since they can't get enough people to fill it.

Out of necessity I made some reservations for next year, which they have now unilaterally cancelled due to 'security' reasons. What they meant to say was; I booked a rate cheaper than they want to honor it at; instead they lied. So not only are they overselling; when it is actually at a rate that I would consider this hotel worth the price, they cancel it with a lie.

Dear guest, Thank you for writing a review about your recent stay with us at Blue Diamond Sahara Palace Marrakech. We have clearly let you down in numerous areas, which is not the level of service we usually pride ourselves on delivering, and for which we truly apologize. With regards to the shuttle service, please note that we offer 8 buses daily: departing from the hotel at 09h00, 11h00, 15h00 & 17h00 and returning from the medina at 10h00, 12h00, 16h00 & 18h00. This is a complimentary service, and something that is not offered by our nearest competitors in the area. We are certainly not trying to force guests to dine in the hotel: many guests elect take the 17h00 bus into town, enjoy the amazing sunset over the square followed by dinner, then catch a taxi back at a rate of 150-200 MAD (approx $15-$20 USD, which is not unreasonable for a 30 minute ride). I am so sorry to hear of the issues you faced with the rate for your future reservation. Would you mind kindly contacting resa@saharapalacemarrakech.com so we can investigate what has happened? Our rates are determined and set by the BlueBay Hotels & Resorts corporate office, so it is unusual that there was such an anomaly. We look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Angela McGuire Guest Relations Manager

I'm currently staying at the Taj Palace Marrakech for four nights until the 14th of June 2014. It is a stunning property with the worst service except Abdil at the concierge who is brilliant and else everything is horrible. I've stayed at all the leading and luxury hotels and resorts from Maldives to Bora Bora but nothing as bad as this. Our room was stunning as we took a 1 bedroom Atlas Suite at the palace and I personally informed the hotel 1 month prior to my coming at the hotel via email of my preferences as I'm a Taj Innercircle Gold member as well. But nothing was ensured one bit to what was promised. The rooms and bathrooms are full of Mosquitos and water pressure is pathetic no privacy through the bathroom window as I could see people taking bath in the riads opposite butt as naked, cracked marble flooring. Any requests for anything takes between 30-45 mins and sometimes an hour. The Spa is the worst I spent nearly 2000 Moroccan dirhams on 3 treatments for me and my wife but it was as if we paid someone to drop oil on us. Without courtesies to offer towels water cover your eyes while getting a massage or even English speaking staff. I have 3 more days yet to go and I'm debating what to do. On top of that you will pay top dollar which one doesn't mind where you get service and personalisation often across top resorts of the world but not here. Go to Four Seasons or any random Riad it will be much better. You can't even see Atlas Mountains which they mention for their rod nowhere to be seen. No people to serve at the pool no life guards absolutely deserted waited for 45 mins for someone to come to us big in despair. Walked across the hotel to he reception to get a bill cancelled for which I signed to be served prior to getting the food as it never showed up. Pathetic!!'

Stayed mid September, the hotel was empty, employees went on strike twice during our stay (3 nights) which also explain by itself the difficult relationship between employers/employees. While Moroccans are fantastic people and in the best hotels love to give the best they can with a smile, we notice the hotel was managed by Indians and Occidentals which could explain some of this. In-room food was a deception but dinner at the Asian restaurant excellent. The other restaurant was closed so could not try it. Breakfast was below average, probably in line with a 3 stars hotel in Paris. On the day we arrived, it was impossible to use the kids pool as it was very very dirty. Even the main pool (which is huge and beautiful) suffers from the formation of seaweeds at few places in the middle (on the floor). They have pergolas around the pool but half are broken and the other half so dirty that at the end you cannot use them. Ponds were so dirty with green seaweeds that it looks like no one clean it for ages. Positive points : rooms are amazing as well as the complex and the lobby. The hotel is 30-40 minutes out of town but they offer a free shuttle (and the driver we had was very very nice). This hotel is or will probably be a money loosing hotel in coming quarters or years unless they find a new shareholder and management. My guess is that in the meantime they will be working with Asian travel agencies to try fill the hotel with big group of people. Try instead the Mosaic Palais Aziza or the Palais Namaskar or Four seasons or even the Mamounia.

We did not stay at Taj (Big mistake but definitely next time) but ate there one evening! great staff and the junior chef(head chef was busy) prepared for us an excellent vegetarian meal even though they were nearly done with the dinner service! By the poolside it was very peaceful with some entertainment and relaxing atmosphere! Congratulations on providing a wonderful ambience to a lovely warm evening in Marrakech!

My parents and I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful palace. We left the busy city streets for a luxurious, private , relaxing safe-haven. The employees went above and beyond to accomodate my every request and more. The welcome and the check- in is a truly unique experience that I have never seen in any other hotel previously. The asian restaurant is authentic with a fine service and chic atmosphere. The property itself is magnificent filled with rich -traditional colors. I enjoyed the Taj experience from beginning till end. We will definitely return for a relaxing, pampered, extravagant getaway!

On first sight, the Sahara Palace (formerly the Taj Palace) is shockingly beautiful; Venetian plaster walls, immense chandeliers, velvet, silk gold. It was, possibly, the most beautiful hotel I had ever walked into. But quickly, the signs of neglect surface. There is an attention to detail missing as well as some fundamental comfort issue that must be resolved for an accommodations at this price point: broken tiles, stained furniture, tepid water in the bathroom, broken espresso machines. The apartment sized rooms feel truly deluxe- unlike anywhere I have ever stayed (and that is saying a lot....) but, ultimately, poor maintenance and service to the rooms and the lack of guests makes the place feel unloved and...forsaken. There are stories floating about: under new management, a broken relationship with the Taj Group, a hopeful new start with the Blue Group, so possibly this managerial slump is a temporary condition. I hope for the hardworking and kind staff that this is true. I am also assuming another name change will be forthcoming...

The Sahara is located 20 minutes away from the medina in Marrakech in a fancy suburb called La Palmeraie which is home to magnificent new residences, villas and luxury resorts. Probably because of the new resorts, it is also home to several ATV (quad) rental companies which offer camel and horse riding as well. It is easy to understand why a wealthy local would want to put some distance between themselves and the hustle bustle of Marrakech but as a tourist I felt stranded and disconnected from the culture I had come to visit. The hotel does provide a free shuttle service (which we did not take since we opted for a private driver) but the last run is at 6PM from the city. Impossible to spend the day sightseeing (or shopping) then coming home for a siesta before strolling out to one of Marrakech's many decent restaurants. Taxis both ways will add an additional 40-50 dollars to your tab. Options for dinner "on campus" are limited and frankly, not worthy of the 5 star prices charged. Twice, we were the only table dining in either of the immense, echo chamber restaurants.

It is hard to say if this is good place for kids. Most of our adventures abroad include interacting with other families we meet when we travel. Poolside is usually a great place for our son to meet other kids for diversion. Alas, there were few people and no families with children. After 5 nights there, I would venture that the best served demographic for this hotel would be new lovers for whom very little outside distractions are required. But maybe even they should wait until the new management has had a moment to pull things together...

Dear Mr. Hugo, Thank you for sharing your open and honest review of your stay with us at Blue Diamond Sahara Palace Marrakech. We are disappointed that we did not meet your expectations in several areas, but do hope that you and your lovely son were able to enjoy your visit whilst your partner was working. Just to clear up any confusion about the name changes, the management contract with Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces was ceased in mutual agreement in September 2014. We have since been operating as an independently owned and managed hotel "Sahara Palace Marrakech" whilst a new chain was sought. We are pleased to announce that as of this month, we are now operating as "Blue Diamond Sahara Palace Marrakech", part of the Blue Bay Hotels & Resorts group. Despite our shortcomings, we do hope that you may one day return. Kind regards, Angela McGuire Guest Relations Manager
