Travellers' Choice
Le Farnatchi has been described as "The City's Most Luxurious Riad" by Food and Travel Magazine, "The Ultimate Hideaway" by Harpers Bazaar and "Best Luxury Riad" by Conde Nast Traveller. It was created out of six small Riads in the heart of the oldest part of Marrakech, with 400 year old walls and 21st C comforts. With just 10 suites Le Farnatchi has the feel of a beautiful, highly individual, private house. The 2016 addition of a new Spa with private Hammams and en suite Massage rooms and Le Trou au Mur restaurant in 2018 has taken Farnatchi to the level of a world class 5 star "boutique" hotel.

I came to Farnatchi as a solo traveller after five days with friends at a less glamorous (and less expensive!) riad. I was treating myself and looking forward to a little bit of luxe - and while there's no doubt Farnatchi is spacious, and the staff are super-charming and couldn't be more helpful, I couldn't help but feel there's a touch of faded grandeur about Farnatchi. It just feels a little.....unloved? dated? like it's been resting on its laurels for a little too long? They very generously upgraded me, so I was expecting to be dazzled, but the lovely cream sofa had stains on it, and the technology was dated, and overall it just wasn't as lush as I was expecting for the price. I've stayed at El Fenn (loved) and La Mamounia (too OTT for me) - and didn't expect Farnatchi to be in that realm, but the far less expensive riad I had stayed at with friends wasn't all that different to be honest. Farnatchi is in a very convenient location - wonderful if you want to be virtually IN the souks. The breakfast was generous and delicious. The bed was comfortable - but linen occasionally frayed and a bowl of ageing oranges on the coffee table? I had a bit of a drama with the electrical power - I had an early flight and woke in darkness to realise half of the suite had no power, including the bathroom. Tried to call reception and couldn't get the phone to work. Ended up using the torch on my phone to find my way all the way down to reception to seek help. These things happen in countries like Morocco - I understand - but again, not really what you expect for the price. I enjoyed dinner at the restaurant across the laneway that's owned or managed by the same people (Le Trou Au Mer - great food, good people watching (a bit of a Euro 'scene' actually with lots of air kisses and effusive greetings) and they made me feel very comfortable dining alone. I would have given it a 3 out of 5, but bumped it up to a 4 because of the very lovely and warm staff. They were wonderful.

Dear Megan, I am so sorry that your expectations were not exceeded as is always our aim for any guest staying with us. Le Farnatchi has been closed since 19th March 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic and we have used the last 8 months to ensure that Le Farnatchi is not only looking great but that everything is in perfect working order for when we return in the new year. Every room has been repainted from top to bottom, we have installed a new television system and upgraded all the TV's, we have since replaced the majority of our bed sheets, re modelled part of our roof terrace and added a couple of new comfy areas to sit and enjoy the moroccan weather. I am delighted that you enjoyed our service, breakfasts and your dinner at our restaurant Le trou au Mur and we of course hope that you will return to stay with us again in the future following our recent upgrades. It really is our aim to make sure that all our guests have a great stay with us and I do hope that we will have the chance to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards James

Peaceful quiet haven yet very close to the madness of the medina and souks. The staff cannot do enough for you and the Rihad was spotless. We stayed in Suite 9 and it was one of the nicest en-suites I have seen. They have an alcohol licence as do 2 very good local restaurants

I don’t really write reviews on TripAdvisor but Le Farnachi is such a excellent place with amazing staff I felt it was only fair to share how much we loved it This is an excellent hotel to get an authentic and luxurious experience of Marrakech. From the moment the porter collected us from the free airport transfer and walked us back through the winding alleys to the Riad to the patience Adil showed us where we were faffing around on our booking for a restaurant on our last night; the service and experience was exquisite throughout. The breakfast (included) is fresh and always included some fresh Moroccan breads which were very tasty as we’ll as the Moroccan tea which became a staple drink of our time there. Our room (no.8) was a huge suite with a really comfortable super-king size bed, massive walk in shower and separate marble bath. We ate dinner on our balcony on one of nights- where we had a lovely view over the centre of the Riad and the pool. A mixture of the staff’s ‘nothing’s a problem’ attitude and the design of the building made us feel as though we were the only people staying at Le Farnachi, but on we saw a handful of people across the 3 nights we stayed. It really gave us the sense of privacy and tranquility, which is a contrast from the bustling, atmospheric streets and alleys all around you in the medina. The snacks and bottled water left in the room are welcome after a long day of walking around and as well as the log fire in our sitting area of our suite (the evenings did get a little chilly; we both wore thin jackets. Adil and ALL of the other staff (sorry I can’t remember all of your names) are a credit to Le Farnachi and the city of Marrakech. P.S. We’d definitely recommend their spa too! We had a Hammam and massage and it was the best massage we’d ever had.

We have been trying to branch out and try new things - using TripAdvisor as our guide, which is how we ended up staying at Le Farnatchi. At first, this being our first visit to Marrakech, we had a bit of culture shock, precipitated by our taxi handing us off to a guy with a pushcart who loaded up our suitcases and took off down some narrow streets filled with vendors, scooters, people, and no discernible signage. I was making Plan B to figure out how to rescue my luggage in case the guy took off, but of course, he didn't. Turns out, this is quite standard practice because the streets are far too narrow to allow a full-size car through. Phew. He led us to a door - no neon sign here! - and knocked. A lovely man, Morad, came and welcomed us to Le Farnatchi. From the street, it's a door; inside, it's a full on Riad. Beautifully restored; a tasteful mix of modern and antique. We were shown to a two storey suite with a welcoming bottle of water and plate of oranges waiting. What a suite! The bedroom is nearly on the roof. Two steps up into an alcove with a sunken tub, and then out onto a private deck, complete with seating area and two comfortable loungers, right on the rooftop! On the main floor, there's a fireplace, along with a tv and a desk, with a typical Moroccan divan covered in pillows. It is large and airy and looks out onto the courtyard below. There were two caftans and fez's laid out on the bed - how unique! I got a chuckle out of the fancy bath products because they were beyond five star hotel level - 3 different choices for Molton Brown body wash! A modern and tasteful touch in a mostly traditional Riad! I also loved the artisan soap wrapped in paper and tied with raffia. After that first evening, when we got lost multiple times in the wonderful maze of souks, we were a little freaked out. We decided to do the next two days with a guide. The management took care of everything which worked out perfectly. We booked a restaurant, massages, tours, and a taxi to the airport, all with ease and efficiency. The one-on-one service cannot be beaten. Every time we needed something, someone was there to help out. I asked Morad where we were to go for breakfast. He said anywhere you want - we can bring it to your room, or the roof, or to the dining room. I loved our simple breakfast in the tiny dining room. I felt like a guest in an exotic palace, with our own personal chef and attention. The dining room had the fireplace going and it was so cozy. We were served with meals made specifically for us. Every time we came back to the room, there was a treat waiting for us or being delivered - from crunchy sesame snacks, to delicately prepared canapés in the early evening. These little things made such a difference. I'm so glad we didn't stay in a traditional luxury hotel chain. We got so much more out of our experience by taking a chance on Le Farnatchi and experiencing a more than luxurious stay in a Riad. An experience of a lifetime. I highly recommend it!

Amazing experience in the heart of the Medina. We took over 4 rooms at the Riad and it felt like we were at home in Morocco. Walking distance to the souks, the square, and in the middle of the daily life of the city. Great food and amazing service. In general, the Riad is very quiet, but it's in close proximity to many mosques, so be aware that you'll be awakened by the call to prayer early every morning.
