2021 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
A very special small hotel in an ancient Moroccan riad. With just 7 beautiful rooms, a sky-blue pool and a sun-drenched roof terrace, the atmosphere is relaxed and intimate. Cyril and his friendly team feel like an extended family, serving delicious homemade tagines and creating personalised experiences to help you explore this exotic city. Nothing is too much trouble. Just a 5-minute walk from Jemaa el Fna, l’Orangeraie’s location is perfect, yet it is astonishingly peaceful here, a calm retreat after a morning in the bustling souks.

I did months of research before booking our trip to Morocco. Not only was this Riad well reviewed here, but within the latest Fodor's book as well. Cyril answered all of my questions before we even left New York in a timely and helpful manner, even arranging for a car service to pick us up from Casablanca airport, and take us to Essaouria at the end of our stay in Marrakech. Upon arriving, the Riad was absolutely beautiful. It was clean, spacious, quiet from the outside noise, offered a beautiful pool after a long day in the Souk, and the breakfast was unforgettable every morning on the terrace. The entire staff was fantastic, booking dinner reservations and making recommendations, when needed. The location is also perfect for everything you want to see in the city. I cannot recommend it enough nor can I wait to come back!

Property's Favourite Review
I cannot say enough positive things about Riad l’Orangeraie. It’s located in the Médina, is impeccably decorated, the food is great, and they even serve wine and beer. The water pressure is better than I’m accustomed to at home in the USA and the hot water was endless. But for me, the thing that set this place apart was the Staff. My wife and I are photographers and we asked an employee (Khadija) if we could take photos of her wearing traditional Berber clothing. She not only obliged but brought along a friend one evening. They looked fantastic and never got tired of our requests to ‘strike a different pose.’ The session went so well we asked her to repeat it the following morning during the golden hour before her shift started, and of course she obliged. She was the best model of our trip. The manager, Aziz, was fantastic as well. After asking him a few questions about the Atlas Mountains, he literally brought us to his hometown of Ourika. We saw a genuine Berber market, went to his house, met & ate with his family, and took pictures of his friends. It was an incredible day. The highlight of our stay, however, was the second morning we were there. The day before, we had tentatively arranged to have two snake charmers meet us at the Riad in the morning. We were unsure if they would be allowed in, but Aziz seized the opportunity. He let them in, allowed them to set up in the atrium, and subsequently put on the performance of a lifetime. There was one snake charmer, one flute player, and three snakes. They were performing for myself, my wife, and the staff of the Riad. It would be impossible to say who enjoyed the performance the most. My wife and I got photographs previously thought unimaginable, the snake charmers were back in business after the pandemic, and the Riad was thrust back into life after 14 months of being dormant. None of this would have been possible without the incredible willingness to help and understanding of an exceptionally, unique set of people. Riad l’Orangeraie was the best part of my trip to Morocco.

I’m writing this review whilst sitting on the rooftop terrace on our last full day of this visit, having been here almost every year in the last ten! Having previously reviewed the Riad several times before, I’ve all but run out of words to describe a place that, for us, has become a wonderful home from home. The Riad is small and intimate, the staff and service are second to none and the wonderful rooftop breakfasts are a highlight for us each visit! And Nadia’s lamb tagine is always our first request for our arrival dinner. The Riad is located within the medina walls, a five minute walk to the main square, with lots of things to see and do nearby and many choices of restaurants within easy walking distance. On our very first visit in 2012, neither my husband or I expected to find somewhere so idyllic that would become so special to us, with the whole team becoming very dear friends, and they keep us returning as much as the place itself and the sunshine! We have already booked for next year, it helps take away the sadness of leaving what we like to affectionately call our Moroccan ‘home from home’. We love this place.....and everyone who makes each and every stay as special as the last.

We had a Wonderful visit to Marrakech and we can’t speak highly enough of the Riad L’Orangeraie - the food, Accommodations, central location in Medin, 5 minutes from the main square, and especially Aziz and the rest of staff. Aziz is extremely helpful and gracious, will get you taxis, take luggage, secure guides to and from restaurants, make recommendations on Medina, city overall, and the Atlas. The breakfasts on the Riad roof are great, spectacular views, delish eggs, fruit, bread, crepes, good coffee, tea made by staff. But the best part of the Riad is the apartment, a 2 minute walk away. We stayed in it and It has 3 stories, very private, winding staircases that will give you a great workout and a roof top that has glorious views of the Medina, day and night, globe lamps for the evening and lovely chairs and couches. It is a truly special place. I would recommend the Riad L’Orangeraie highly to one and all. -Patrick

I’m so glad I stayed here. The location is perfect (I walked to most of the sites I wanted to visit) the staff warm and helpful, the food delicious! The room was lovely, clean and very comfortable. I loved the pool. Everyone was so helpful from helping me plan my sightseeing each day, helping me organize day trips, and helping with train tickets. They really create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere to make you feel at home. I miss it already and hope to return and stay again! It was a quiet, peaceful respite from the intensity of the Medina. Highly, highly recommend.
