A very special small hotel in an ancient Moroccan riad. With just 7 beautiful rooms, a sky-blue pool and a sun-drenched roof terrace, the atmosphere is relaxed and intimate. Cyril and his friendly team feel like an extended family, serving delicious homemade tagines and creating personalised experiences to help you explore this exotic city. Nothing is too much trouble. Just a 5-minute walk from Jemaa el Fna, l’Orangeraie’s location is perfect, yet it is astonishingly peaceful here, a calm retreat after a morning in the bustling souks.

Choosing a riad from the several in Marrakech is no easy task. We had a spreadsheet to keep track as we did our research and we looked at MANY. In the end we were so happy with our choice. Hands down this is the most incredible place to stay in Marrakech. The rooms, the rooftop terrace, the lounge areas, the location - all perfect and beautifully decorated. Not over the top - simple and comfortable with hints of Moroccan touches. And so quiet! It was a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city.

What makes it even more special is the staff. Every email and question was answered promptly by Cyril leading up to our stay, and once we arrived Aziz, Khadija, Imad (Harry Potter!) and Jamal made us feel like we were staying at our home away from home for our 4 day stay.

We travel a fair amount and to say I'm picky about where I stay is an understatement. Riad L'Orangeraie is in our top 10 places we have ever stayed.

On February 2020 we arrived at Riad l’ Orangeraie in Marrakech Morocco. We were greeted very welcomingly at the door by Ismail the property Manager. It’s important to say that the buildings are from the 18th century and for all intents and purposed look like it from the outside. We entered through a modest door into a really beautiful boutique hotel atmosphere. It is stunning!

The dipping pool in the middle of the courtyard and the large oversized plants were so beautiful and maintained and added an atmosphere of retreat. The resident tortoise Valentino who loosely wanders the courtyard added a bit of whimsy and exemplified the level of care and welcoming to the Riad. The showing of Casablance on the wall over the pool during the evening was a novel and interesting surprise.

We inhabited four of the seven rooms and were shown each room upon our arrival and were able to work it out among ourselves as to which room we wanted. Some rooms had stairs up or down to the bathrooms and some were all one level. They have really made the best out of all the space to provide rooms that are large enough to get around with our American luggage and to feel relaxed and cared for.

We were a group of six traveling together with very different needs and wants. I can say without a doubt that Riad l’ Orangeraie not only met but exceeded our needs. If we needed reservations a phone call was placed, a car was called, laundry was done, directions were given and on a few occasions we were actually walked to our destination. The service was really incredible.

The roof top garden was a wonderful place to unwind and have a wonderful breakfast or dinner and enjoy the views of the mountains in the distance. We spent our evenings on the roof drinking wine that we had brought or that the Riad had provided and eating snacks we had brought ourselves although the Aziz and Khadija 2 were always ready to prepare anything we wanted any time. The lovely employees, Nadia, Aicha, Leila, Khadija, Sana, Jamal and Jamal 2 and of course Ismail really took such great care of us that we felt like we had made friends and finally asked them to please just sit and chat with us. We learned many things about their culture in these intimate evening chats. We LOVED it.

Khadija, Nadia, Aicha, Leila, Khadija 2, Sana, Aziz, Jamal and Jamal 2 and Ismail Thank you so much for everything.

Toward the end of our visit we met the owner Cyril, an understated, humble Frenchman from Nice. Cyril spent a lot of time getting to know us and generally just chatting. He was easy, comfortable. It was apparent that his staff cared deeply for him and that it was reciprocated. Most of the staff had been there over three years. The day we left he walked us to the walls of the Medina to catch our hired car and to make sure we made our connection.

Marrakech is a wonderfully chaotic, crazy, sometimes dizzying destination. Riad l’ Orangeraie made it so easy and wonderful with super recommendations from meals to a hammam. I highly recommend this Riad and If we were ever to visit again this would be my choice of accommodation.

We absolutely loved our 2-week stay at this gorgeous riad. The small team of dedicated staff who felt more like a family were warm, genuine, and a lot of fun. Everyone went out of their way to look after us and make our stay comfortable.

As soon as you step through the carved door, you enter a place of calm and elegance. From the courtyard with its arabesque fountain, lush orange trees, and deep green plunge pool to the terracotta rooftop where you are served breakfast and can bask on soft cushions or lounge chairs in the warm winter sun, there are plenty of little nooks and crannies to relax and unwind.

The rooms are beautifully decorated in tasteful Moroccan furnishings. Each of our rooms had very comfortable beds and the rainshower was divine. Our favourite was the cosy fireside dining. Because none of the restaurants were open during our stay, we had the privilege of being spoilt with the two Khadija's cooking each night. We are both vegans and we really appreciated their effort to make each meal so delicious!

Our stay was extended by a week when we could not travel back due to border closures. Cyril and Aziz helped us rearrange our plans and accommodated all our needs. We can honestly say by the end of our time, it felt like home. We left with a little sadness and a lot of gratitude for the kindness of Cyril and his team. We consider each of them our friends!

What a fantastic few nights we spent here. Nothing was too much trouble, we were given such a warm welcome with lovely mint tea and homemade biscuits on arrival. Everything was explained and we made made to feel very at home.
The bedrooms and library/ lounge were beautifully appointed. Difficult to drag yourself away to visit city when it was such a relaxing haven of peace and tranquility.
After a full day visiting many sights, again mint tea and biscuits offered.
Ismail sat with us each morning and outline suggested plans/ routes for making the most of the day. He is such a warm lovely friendly person, wish he could organise my entire life.
Breakfast was lovely with lovely juices and fresh fruit available at all times.
Riad also in a perfect position to explore, very central but also very peaceful and quite, rooms quite too, no noise from other guests!
A huge thank you to Ismail, Aziz, Jamal and the team.
Hope to be back soon.

L'Orangeraie is everything you want in a riad. A historic house restored to its finest, with only 7 rooms including 3 suites. The rooms are modernized yet traditional and very romantic. In the traditional courtyard, there is a small pool, plenty of places to relax and a wonderul roof garden area for meals and drinks. Locaed in the medina, it is close to the main square and only meters from the souk, yet peaceful and quiet inside the walls.

It all works because of of inkeeper Cyril and his friendly and helpful staff who take a personal touch with each guest. They will handle all your reservations, walk you to the taxi to insure you find it in the busy city, and even loan you a phone to call the hotel anytime if needed. The breakfast is included and it is excellent. They even offer a traditional dinner with a tangine which is particularly useful on the day you arrive. This is my second visit to L'Orangeraie, this time booking three room for my family, and we had a wonderul holiday and will certainly return.

Cyril and his staff at L’Orangeraie were most welcoming starting with a smooth airport pick up to the gates of The Medina. We were then escorted on foot with our cases safely in a wooden trolley and had our first taste of The Medina with all its bustle, colour and charm. We arrived at No. 61 and were immediately greeted and then shown around this beautiful Riad. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and on our first evening we met old friends and after drinks on the amazing roof top overlooking the Atlas Mountains we were served a superb Tagine dinner next to an open fire. Our room was ‘Saffron’ and was spotless and most comfortable with authentic touches of Moroccan styles and colours. (My husband is an old movie lover so seeing Casablanca projected on the walls was a hit)!
I 100% recommend this Riad
When we checked out at 6am Cyril kindly got up to say goodbye to us. Thank you Cyril and all your fantastic team.

We received a very warm welcome from the staff here who spoke both French and English. They arranged for us to be collected from the airport, making things much easier for us! We had a lovely dinner (huge portions) on the roof terrace in the evening and enjoyed the sunshine during breakfast.
The rooms were comfortable but made for the heat - make sure to bring warm jumpers if you're in Morocco in the winter.
It was a great location and I'd certainly recommend it.

I had the pleasure to stay at the Riad L'Orangeraie during the first days of 2020. My husband and my three boys (ages 24, 19 and 12) spent three nights at this wonderful oasis in the middle of the Medina. Cyril and his staff were nothing short of AMAZING!!!! They went out of their way to make our time at the Riad special and enjoyable.

Cyril started helping me via email and WhatsApp months before our arrival. He helped me gather information about different desert camp sites and even made the reservation for us once I made my decision. He also suggested a cooking class for us (which we did take) and made those reservations as well. Jamal, from his staff, took us on a full day excursion to Ait Benhaddou in the Atlas mountains. He was professional, friendly and courteous beyond words (especially when my youngest kid got dizzy during the car ride due to the curvy roads). I can not say enough about the people who work in this Riad. They are all super nice and professional. They will make you feel as if you are a special guest in their lovely home.

The Riad is beautifully decorated and the rooms are comfortable. The breakfast offering in the morning is very good. Me and my oldest son would wake up at the crack of dawn to see the sunrise, and were always offered coffee and tea prior to the 'official' breakfast time, once the sun came out. Cyril also arranged our transportation from the airport, and our transportation to and from the Inara desert camp.

The Riad is like a big house. I believe there are only seven rooms (of which we had two). Our stay here was peaceful and relaxing despite the hectic pace of the Medina. Every morning Cyril would come to our table during breakfast, ask us about our day plans, and recommend restaurants for dinner (and made some reservations). The service here is top-notch. I have stayed in many luxury resorts around the world and this place is nothing short of remarkable. Do yourself a favor and stay here. You won't regret it!

Riad l'Orangeraie is right what you wish for when visiting Marrakech and would like to stay inside the bustling Medina, which can be quite intense. L'Orangeraie will make sure that once you enter through their door that you feel relaxed and can unwind. The team of L'Orangeraie is wonderful and make you feel at home within a few hours. Their warmth is embracing and make you feel like family. The atmosphere is casual. Breakfast is delicious with a.o. home made sweets and yoghurt. Nothing is too much asked for; from making bookings for tours to hammam treatments. Riad L'Orangeraie really does the utmost to make your stay in Marrakech/Morocco a memorable one.

We wanted to experience a Riad for our final two nights in Marrakesh following a two week extraordinary and magical tour around Morocco. There were over 1300 to select from but after reading countless reviews and whatever information was published, we selected Riad l'Orangeraie. The reviews were spot on leaving us delighted with our selection, and our only dismay was that we only stayed two evenings.

From the moment we reached out to Cyril, the owner, for information to the moment he saw us off to the airport, his attentiveness was second to none. He is eager to assist with any plans or arrangements needed whether it be a day trip or a restaurant suggestion/reservation. He is knowledgable, so capable and very charming. He goes above and beyond to ensure that each guest is well taken care of. When we were unsure how to get to our restaurant, he walked us there.

The Riad is spotless and impeccably decorated. There are countless added touches that give so much charm to this gem. Our room, the Paprika, was sizable, comfortable and so well decorated. The common areas, including the living room and rooftop, are perfectly appointed as well and make for a wonderful place to hang out for hours. The rooftop, where meals are served, is stunning and provides fantastic views of the City, Medina and of the sunrise and sunset. Nadia, the cook, makes a stellar lamb tajine and the breakfasts are just as wonderful.

Perhaps the real treat of staying here is the staff. What a team Cyril has put together, and it truly makes a statement that this team has been together for 1-2 decades. Even after two days, we felt as though each and every staff member was family. The smiles, warmth, hospitality and eagerness to please made it very difficult to say goodbye and left us wanting more. We can easily see why many guests return year after year.

We want to go back! Thank you, Cyril and Team!

Hello, In answer to your question, we do provide laundry services that we outsource to a reliable vendor. The cost is reasonable and is approximately 1 Euro per item (depending on the material of the piece). All laundry pieces return within 24 hours.

Hello, I'm sorry for the delayed response but did not see the question at the time. In answer to your question, we can organise day trips with our drivers to the Atlas Mountains and in Essaouira which is an old city on the Atlantic cost (both places are located less than two hours drive from Marrakech) or to Ait Benhaddou which is a bit further. These trips outside Marrakech are always enjoyed by our guests and allow you to explore even more of Morocco. We also have a fantastic new excursion which will take you from the Agafay desert (close to Marrakech) to the Atlas Mountains, along off-road tracks. I hope this answer your question but please feel free to send us a direct message if you need more explanations. Kind regards, Cyril

Hello Alexandra, Thank you for your nice message and your question. We don't work with the main online providers which is why you need to search for Riad l'Orangeraie and go directly to our website. Our Riad is centrally located in the 'Mouassine' district in the old town (definitely the best district in the medina), 400m from the main square and 200m from the entrance of the market. Our location allows you easily to explore the attractions of the city, and to come and go as often as you like during the day to drop off shopping or simply to revive yourselves with a drink. Yet once inside our walls, you'll find a peace and quiet that will never let you believe you are so close to the hustle and bustle! Throughout your stay with us, we will be available to provide you with advice regarding trips, restaurants and sightseeing tours. We have a full concierge service available from 9am to 10pm everyday and free wifi access to the Internet in each room. There is a pool and a hammam at your disposal and a possibility to book cooking classes. Please let us know your dates of stay and we will reply quickly with a quote and the booking process. We would be delighted to have you stay with us and you can be confident that we will do all our best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Cyril (Riad's owner)
