I can only reiterate what others have already said. It is a stunning combination of modern style and comfort with a centuries old building of great character. This achieves the ultimate of plumbing and hot water that work very efficiently together with the atmosphere and character of the old building. The staff do a superb job and the cook prepares...

I stayed for four blissfully relaxing and restful nights at the beginning of October at El Mezouar. This was my first trip to Marrakech and Morocco and I have already booked to go back to the riad, this time with my partner, in the New Year. I stayed in Zeitoun, a large, beautifully furnished and very comfortable room on the...

In the heart of narrow cobbled streets where locals actually live, you pass through a beautiful door that acts like a portal to another world. Centuries old high ceilings and pillars with a tiled swimming pool in the center. It is owned and run by a British lady supported by two charming local ladies. The service attitude was better than...

I first visited Riad El Mezouar during Ramadan last year and having found it a strangely ‘good’ time to be in Marrakech couldn’t resist another quick trip. Once again I was struck by the tranquillity of this idyllic haven! it’s hard to explain why the quiet makes such an impact so, imagine yourself walking through the chaos and fascination of...

Located beside a colourful, busy souk, Romaine Lancaster has created a beautiful, calm oasis. My 4 days there were a 5-star experience from start to finish - very caring service from all the team, delicious breakfasts and dinners either on the sun terrace or in the courtyard beside the pool. Refreshing dips in the courtyard pool, a visual delight with...

I just stayed at Riad el Mezouar and was completely blown away by how beautiful and tranquil it is - it's a jewel of a place, a faultless escape from the stress and hassle of ordinary life! The new owner Romaine has done an extraordinary job in renovating it, she has an exquisite talent for design and furnishing and has...

Dear Lynnet I remember your visit very well as you and your husband arrived via the overnight train from Spain/Tangiers which we were happy to organise. You were going on to the mountains for two days walking and then Essaouira. for the once a year Gnaoui music festival. A trip I would have loved to have taken myself! My ethos...

Having arrived amidst the frenetic chaos of Marrakech, nothing could have prepared me for the tranquility and calm of Riad el Mezouar. This Riad is the best 'Home away from Home' that I have ever stayed at in all my years of both business and leisure travel. The Riad was taken over by Romaine Lancaster last year and she has...

Dear Peter I so appreciate your positive review of my riad. Having travelled the world for many years as a TV documentary film-maker where I have stayed in both the sublime and frankly the ridiculous, I have attempted to create an environment where I too would want to relax in whether it be after a stressful period of work, recovering...

This review is well overdue, however as proof of how much we enjoyed it, after nearly six months, my partner and I still talk about how amazing our stay was here (almost on a weekly basis!), and cannot wait to one day return again. From the moment we arrived, Romaine was a truly gracious and welcoming host. The riyad has...

Dear Krista, How lovely you and your partner are still thinking about Riad el Mezouar six months after your visit! I realise it is such a long way to come but we would welcome you back any time. We had a wonderful welcome from Romaine, the English owner, and her lovely staff, to the Riad she has restored quite beautifully. It is an oasis of peace and calm in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. We had a fabulous room overlooking the courtyard, the pretty roof terrace where we had breakfast looks out to the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located in the medina of Marrakech close to the soukhs and bustling Jemaa-el-Fna square, Riyad el Mezouar is a tranquil and unexpected hideaway. The villa was constructed in the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries by the royal household for one of their important members of staff who was called the Mezouar, or head of royal protocol at that time, which explains its graceful and subtly grand architecture. Now a Maison d'Hotes, the riad offers 5 spacious en-suite rooms situated around the courtyard pool or on the first floor gallery level. Depending on the season, breakfast is served on the roof terrace, around the pool in the shady courtyard, the fireside winter salon or in the guest rooms. Dinner is available on request, prepared by a Moroccan cook. The aquamarine pool and rose fountain surrounded by flowers and mature trees provide a sanctuary for birds and offer shade during the heat of the day. From the roof terrace there are splendid views of the snow-covered Atlas mountains and the famous Koutoubia mosque. This is a quiet space in which to enjoy both the sun and stars where refreshments are served from the terrace kitchen throughout the day and evening. ... more   less
