Travellers' Choice
With 20 individually styled rooms and suites, a four-bedroom private riad, 3 swimming pools and its own hammam spa, El Fenn is a unique boutique hotel combining grandeur and historic architecture with hideaway nooks, terraces and gardens - making it the most peaceful place from which to enjoy Africa's most exotic city. Our story began with two friends on the hunt for a small riad to buy as a holiday home. It was 2002 when Vanessa Branson and Howell James walked into the almost ruined courtyard of one of Marrakech's formerly great private homes. Nearing dusk and with the sound of the muezzin's call to prayer echoing in the air, they instantly fell in love with the atmospheric house which was being sold with three smaller neighbouring homes. They soon realised that their holiday home was going to become so much more.At the time, only a handful of Marrakech's riads had been converted to small hotels and Vanessa and Howell knew they wanted to open a place offering something different - a home from home retreat that combined great food and service with the spirit of the building's past and a contemporary decorative twist. During a two-year renovation, local craftsman used traditional techniques to breathe new life into the building. Polished lime plastering was used in a rainbow of colours to create walls, baths and bed frames, original tiling was renovated and carved cedar ceilings restored. Retro furniture sourced from local flea markets was combined with one-off bespoke pieces to create a unique interior.

Let me start with saying that the hotel isn't for everyone - it's not a Marriott (thankfully). There are no locks on the doors - lots of cameras, and locks inside, don't worry. That said, it's truly a Moroccan experience. The rooms were fantastic - spacious, clean and just what you would expect in a Rijad. The overall facilities were great too - very eclectic and very well done. Food and drinks were fantastic, and the staff was amazing - they were really helpful, friendly and attentive. And the location is great in the old city. We'll def go back to the hotel to finish our trip.

Reviews make a huge difference when selecting a place to stay so I get why you’re here reading this. Let me just say that El Fenn was a vacation-changing experience in the best possible way. The riad is stunning, safe, and unforgettable in the heart of Marrakech’s old city/Medina and the staff their is family. I’ve never met a staff so supportive and caring about our experience at a destination - big shout out to Belaid and the supporting staff. Whenever we had questions about accommodations, dinner reservations, tour guide, activities, the staff always lead us to a gold star experience. I can truly say that staying here made our experience a trip of a lifetime. The price of the rooms here are on the higher end but I can for sure say this was all worth it. You’re not paying for just a room, you’re paying for the collective El Fenn experience. If you don’t believe me, stop by the riad for a drink and/or meal and you’ll see exactly what I mean. I’ve got new friends and family for life. 10/10!!!

I visited El Fenn with my daughter on a trip to Marrakesh and fell in love with this hotel. Both the staff and the atmosphere are personal but at the same time professional here, every detail is well thought out and beautiful. The food is well cooked and the drinks are magical. Room 7 was decorated in dark colors with a wonderful bathroom and a comfortable large bed. We also booked transfer and guide via the reception, worked great. Warmest recommendations!

Had a wonderful time here in the large pink room which was heavily discounted due to covid. Room was instagram perfection! Pool on rooftop is amazing. Cocktails stunning. Delicious food really enjoyed the huge breakfasts. Love the little turtles that wander around. A young English gentlemen at the bar was exceptional as was a very smartly dressed man in that area also who always looked very dapper. Really good location and thoroughly enjoyed nearby sushi that was recommended. Can’t wait to return without a lockdown.

How wonderful that you got to experience the famous pink room, we may be biased but actually all the rooms are special and we encourage guests to speak to our team before they arrive so that we can help them choose the right room for them, each one is so unique. So the next time you come and stay we can recommend a different room for you - that is hoping you will want to come back!!!
